Beautiful tie. Ironically, just before this video appeared, my RUclips feed presented me with a video of the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild. I’ll bet they would like this one.

I think you did a great job on that fly. I was given 50 or 60 flies that looked like yours and was told to take a razor to them so I could practice making the same fly. I couldn't do it bought more hooks and preserved flies for display.

No need to feel ashamed or dirty Eric. That fly came out great! For Catskill flies, focus on the end results, what it will take to achieve hose results - and not so much on the techniques of the so-called masters. Economy of thread wraps, sparseness, quality of materials, proportions. Have faith and you'll get it perfect!

came here to say this exactly. All of the tyers added their own innovations or quirks to their flies. Similar to how everyone agrees what a chocolate chip cookie is but makes them a million different ways.
This is a very good catskill style fly.

That's high praise, thank you so much. Sorry for this delayed response, just learning how to keep up with comments.

I don’t know Eric your flies are second to none. I traveled the Catskills in my younger days and tried to immitate the dries they tied. They used to have tying demonstrations in the theatre in Roscoe and picked up many finevtying tips there. Imitating Mays I used Flicks book because in ct. the first couple of Mays hatch here. The only thing I caught more fish on Bergmans wets lol. I’m still trying to master the dries though their so pretty and traditional. Great job Eric and thanks for the tip on wood duck. Tight lines bro.

I completely agree with your sentiments. They are very dear.

With the down eye, it can run upside down. The wide gape of the hook as shown can puncture the eye or brain of the fish when this happens. And yes, fish do in fact feel pain just as we do.

This fly doesn't run upside down. These have been tied with down eyes for over a century. No fish brains damaged.

Eric just fish the ugly ones in very fast water and the fish will never know 😂

Not with that kind of attitude. Turn that frown upside down and try a little positivity, dude.
