Almost all of my flys are from your videos, thanks Davie! I don't watch any other fly tying videos, no one else compares!! Keep up the great work!! Hopefully the weather picks up to get the kayak out soon...

Beautiful! "Summer Duck", I had to look up. What we call Wood Duck. Thanks for the help. Ham fisted me has always had a problem with aligning the tips of CDC, work in progress. I caught my fist trout on a fly 47 years ago with a QG. Again thanks.

I did enjoy it, Davie... than you.
This one looks like one of those flies where I'll have to talk to my fingers to get it done decently.

For me, with fly tying, a *little* fussy is a good thing! Nice fly!

Fantastic pattern Davie, will be tying a few of these for sure. Hit a few yesterday on one of your Shuttlecock patterns I tied last week, worked perfect thank you pal. The CDC with a light coat of spray floatant had the fly sitting up nicely so I could actually see the damn thing.

    That's a really tidy pattern/tie-up. Well Done.

I’ve not actually managed to get onto the water yet but certainly aim to. I just love the way you tie Davie and I’m going to try tying a great many of your patterns. You give a really nice take on ‘how to’ with your descriptions and also by the closeness and angle you film from. It works for me. Plus, I have no excuse as I also am fortunate enough to have secured a LAW vice. It’s simple and sufficient to do any job asked of it..... thanks for all your efforts.

@Davie McPhail Excellent fly to skate across the water for trout. It's Salmon season here and I could use some inspiration...been too long since your last salmon fly upload besides the tube fly ;p Tight lines from across the pond.

Brilliant Davie , would one strand of crystal flash be a good idea on the wings just to give it that wing like look or would it be too much

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  6 лет назад

      Hi Stuart,
I'm sure it would be worth tying some up with a bit of flash in the wing as having something a wee bit different may work when nothing else is...I'm glad you like the fly..
      All the very best Davie...

Hi Davie I have question for you? What brand of Vice do you use? I live in Minnesota United states however I am a living relative of Mary Queen of Scots.I just love your touch and artistic ability with Fly tying. I hope I can get the brand of vice you use here in the United States.

      Hi David,
I use a Law vise but unfortunately it's no longer made, I have uploaded a video showing it in more detail as I do get asked a lot about it so I have attached a link for you to see...It does come up for sale the odd time but can go for a lot of money, I bought mine for £350 many years ago and t has served me well..It must be quite something to be a living relative of Mary Queen of Scots...

Great fly mate. How small can you go? That puppie will work great on the Henry’s fork and in West Virginia on the elk. Thanks for sharing another great fly my friend. Best Regards, Ken

      Hi Ken,
I'm sure I could tye it down to a size 18 or even a size 20, I would only use two CDC feathers rather than four...I'm glad you like it...

Davie McPhail you're a gentleman, Davie. Thank you. I'm just getting back into fishing after years away from it and just purchased a fly-fishing setup from a friend. I've no idea how I'll do but videos like yours make me look forward to days away on my own fishing and maybe building up a wee fly-tying bench of my own. Tight lines and stacked hairs. Thanks again, William.
