the issue with you flipping isn't about the "journey" or "wanting to experience other watches" it is because you are addicted to the dopamine hit. you buy a watch, you go through the honeymoon phase and you're on cloud 9. then the feeling passes and but you want that feeling again. so you flip the watch to experience the same 'high.' and its a never ending cycle. you are never satisfied because that feeling will always pass and you'll eventually want more of it.
i am predicting you keep your president for a year or two and let it go.

I love my VC 5500 Blue dial chrono. It is what the brand is all about, one of not many, not attracting unwarranted attention, it's not about the flex. Hand made, 20,000 produced per annum. Luckily for me I won't have to purchase it back (prices have just gone up substantially). The fact that I can order other bespoke leather straps, new rubber straps come etc. I can change the look of the watch very easily. I have a leather straps (blue and burgundy), rubber straps (blue, dark blue, red, white), and a steel bracelet - this is a great advantage when buying VC.
The micro adjustment on the bracelet, butterfly deployment on the straps (all included), 8 yr warranty. Great watches for generations to come.

Hey man, the move from the under 5k to 15k is also just as noticeable. Or at least it was to me. Going from Rolex/Omega, to the next up being JLC followed by next up being A Lange and Sohne, Patek, or the VC Patrimony or Historique was again, just as noticeable a jump. But ofc it required a bit of experience to really appreciate the intricacies and differences in terms of finishing.

Interesting vid Bruce 👍🏻. I will differ from the vast majority here in that I don’t think the VC (watch & company) is all that. The history is impressive to be sure & the historique is the one I’d have every day of the week. That being said if you’re going to compare apples to apples then really you need to be comparing a 5k, 10k & 15k watch with a piece costing 50k - 150k given the initial premise. I would suggest you would then easily see the same gap in quality as between 500 & 5000. Also, I would suggest that given the quality of other brands offerings such as ALS or FPJ etc etc VC just doesn’t cut it anymore as a haute horology brand.

The 5k mark seems to be an interesting dividing line in quality in the “mass produced” market. I’ve certainly made my mistakes chasing and selling stuff from a certain brand with a crown logo. Seems to me personally I don’t get much additional satisfaction after the 10k range. If you made money on selling it you did the right thing imho. And it's your watch so do as you wish Bruce. Whether a watch is "worth it" has to be a personal decision. What something is worth is subjective when it comes to buying it, and the price is the price. I'm not sure they're worth the money, but most watches aren't either but we know that going in to this crazy pointless hobby of watch collecting/buying. I'm on the fence with the 4500v, saw one last week, black dial. I dont really like the bracelet but the watch still draws me in. I should've tried the black dial on and that would've answered the question. I tried a PP 5167 Aquanaut, I wasnt impressed with it. It was nice dont get me wrong but didn't make my heart skip a beat. Nor did the 5226 I also tried on (no deployment strap for 34k??) . But each to their own. Whats your thoughts on the Parmigiani Tonda PF Sport (2024 version) a black dial version would be insane and if it was 39mm. Personally I think a match for the aquanaut in terms of build quality, styling is a personal opinion.

I admired greatly the difference in movement finish, overall feel, and presentation. The best finished watch I've owned was the GO SeaQ big date. And yes it is on another level, but if I'm honest, to me, it's not double the price level. IMO, $5k or 6k to $12k the differences are not apparant and one really needs to know a little something about watchmaking to spot them.

What you're saying there is what I've been thinking lately. Recently I bought a Hublot classic Fusion titanium and King gold. And I also recently bought a Glashutte Original Senator Panorama Moon Date. They both cost about the same. And I love them both dearly. NOw the watch Community praised me for buying the GO but mocked me for buying the Hublot. The fact is that I love both of them for different reasons and I assigned the same value to both of them although I value different things about both of them. And what I'm realizing is that a luxury watch is only worth the value you put into it as an individual. All that other talk about value for the money is utter nonsense unless you buy the watch with the intention of selling it.

A layman will mistake this watch for a $3k watch. Thats the problem with this watch.

Honestly, I don’t get the hype. Had one on my wrist at an AD before people started peeing their pants over them. Massively underwhelming and the bracelet was awful. Anyways, each to their own.

@@JOHNNYSD-43 GP never had a presence in say Rodeo Dr or design district in Miami. GP was seldom thought of as a luxury brand. VC is considered by some as one of holy trinity but not GP.
Overseas hype had died down some for sure though. Most don't trade above MSRP except blue dials. GP Laureatos plenty of them for sale in their authorized retailers. Not so easy to get Overseas right out of display cases.
