I love this watch. The grail purchase has been more than I expected. I am still in the thick of the watch honeymoon. In this video I answer a few questions about the best and worst things about owning and wearing a personal grail. More Overseas content is forthcoming. Thanks for watching.
DISCLAIMER: Many watches were sacrificed in the making of this video.

Good for you.....
I’m 57 years old and my dad told me......
Son, You will never remember the $$ you spent on a luxury watch....Car.....etc when you get older
Only that you had to make some sacrifices and had to wait maybe a few years...
But if you really really love something for a long time and it’s a burning desire....
Do whatever you need to do and get it.....
When you do finally get it you will always remember the hard work and sacrifices you made in doing so....
Life is meant to be lived......
Congratulations
Greg
Nicely said. I think it is relatable with my much shorter experience
Hear hear!
Amazing watch, built on hundreds of years of tradition. Awesome pick!
I still can't believe you sold this. What an incredible watch.
Coming back just to say that I bought this watch and it looks even better than in the video. I will never sell it, my future grandkids will have to pry it off my corpse.
Happy I could help! Really was an awesome experience to be a part of and hopefully we can do this again! Enjoy the fantastic grail piece👏
@Chris Chang How did you feel about Bruce selling his "grail watch" a few months after purchase for a tidy profit?
@@ajlevin44 are you talking shit to someone that did somehing nice or is that a legitimate question
@@chrischang3924 I think it's a legitimate question. As Bruce said, he bypassed the waitlist to get the watch, skipping over people who had been waiting for months or years. Given that he sold it a few months later, I have a hard time believing his intention wasn't always to flip it. I don't really know your role in this, so I can't exactly "talk shit" in an informed way. But at the very least I am bringing it to your attention so that in the future you can perhaps find people more deserving of your nice acts.
Glad you're loving it mate. I've had mine (exact same model) for over a year now. By far my most worn and favorite watch.
This is my grail watch as well. I love everything about it.
No secondstop !!!
Stunning watch, congrats to your choice. I bought it for my 40th birthday in early May... "back" then I was able to negotiate a 13% discount and I just realized recently that now it is difficult to get at retail and the blue one is also, according to VC, only available at the Boutique with some waiting time in Switzerland. The rubber strap was the one I thought I would hardly wear but it turned out to be the one I used the most in the summer... so comfortable.
The bezel is a bit of a scratch magnet or I am just clumsy. But a watch has to be worn, so I don't mind too much after the first tears were shred ;-)
You have a very pleasant way of presenting your videos, a lot of positivity. I really enjoy to watch them :-) Keep it up
Hi Manuel. I protect my Watches with Tesa Strap. Try it out. It is very simple and you avoid a lot of scratches. Greetings from Germany.
Nicely done. And I fully agree: The Vacheron Constantin Overseas in blue is really a grail watch!
Love it. I've had my 4500V In black since Dec'19 and it only gets better
I too have the same Overseas! Best things in order 1) blue dial is stunning, 2) interchangeable bracelet/bands 3) clean/finish 4) TOTAL PACKAGE type timepiece
I fully agree with you
100 percent
Hi Bruce. Love your review and love your channel. It’s a great piece. I just put a deposit on it and will be obtaining it in about three months. It’s like wearing 3 different watches !! I can’t wait for delivery. Love your humility and you know what you worked hard you deserve all that you have and you have some great pieces.
Nice. Your enthusiasm says it all.
So simple and beautiful, congratulations.
It's really hard to explain the feeling you get when you've been lusting after a specific peice , looking at it on the internet and researching everything about it . When finally the day comes , for me , it's like being a little kid at Christmas all over again. And forget about the normal watch wear rotation . You want to wear that sucker everyday. Haha !!! I'm super happy for you . It's an absolutely stunning watch that is a true horologic masterpiece. Enjoy my friend !!!
Reviewed one recently and must agree
This is probably my favourite watch of all time and your review is brilliant.
The perfect watch, nice, good and discreet.
I love It!
My grail is this, but the pink gold w/ blue dial model. Congratulations!
My dream watch. It is just perfect.
Wow. Congratulations. The nicest bracelet I’ve ever seen imo
Nice dude! Dressed for Invicta shopping, buys a VC.
It's the best way to do it
@@BruceWilliams agreed man, my wardrobe pretty much only allows for it....I definitely don’t have any VC shopping clothes.
size looks perfect on your wrist in my opinion. congrats on the purchase!
my grail watch as well! it's just so perfect. wear it in good health!
your collection one of the best. small but so clinical.
Wow! Gorgeous. I’d have a VC over PP or AP any day (assuming of course I could afford it) for me,no Swiss competition. A.Lange is the only competition in my fantasy.
Beautiful piece!
That blue dial is beautiful!
Super happy you got your grail.
I'm working really hard to get mine right now, the Zenith Defy Classic. I love it for a lot of the same reasons you love that Overseas, it just ticks all the boxes for me.
It's a good to way to reward yourself to buy such a watch. We cannot only work all of our life, we also have to enjoy it!
The VC dial is out of this world. I machined some panerai sandwich dials which are beautiful but VC are at another level in quality.
I'm in love with the black dial version of this watch.. I know the blue is more complex, but for me.. that glossy enamel black is what I wish Rolex black dialed looked like... almost wet!
Gorgeous timepiece from an OG company. VC is the underrated but most accomplished and oldest of the Holy Trinity.
That VC overseas is beautiful! Congratulations on getting it. 👍🏾 I imagine that blue looks great in person.
Great video Bruce! That Overseas looks amazing on you!
I was seriously considering this amazing watch. Two things turned me away. First, the absence of a hacking function. Second is the poor execution of the date font and date window. For $20,000 I shouldn’t have to compromise
Same here. Hacking function doesn't bother me as no mechanical watch can 100% keep accurate time anyway regardless of how you set it but the date font is really pathetic and it bothers me quite a bit for a "Geneva certified" decoration.
i am new to watches. Could u please explain what is a " hacking function?" Thanks!
@@fatwhitetuna6659 it means when you pull the crown out to adjust the time, the seconds doesn't stop so you can't accurately adjust the time to the second. If it hacks, the seconds hand stops whilst you change the time so you can restart the movement as soon as the seconds match the reference time. For a 20k watch, that is a poor omission
🙄🙄🙄
Beautiful watch. The VC Overseas Dual Time is my grail watch.
Awesome watch, congratulations on that beautiful piece.
Thank you
Your reviews have amazing depth Bruce! You also have great taste in the watches you acquire!
I have the identical VC, almost exactly one year old. I bought it from a VC boutique in Southern California. It surprises me that our serial #'s are over 20,000 apart. Assuming they're numbered consecutively, that means they're making about 2000/month. It just surprises me that the production is so high. I'd certainly bet that the blue dial is on more of the Overseas watches than any other color. So more of "our watch" than I'd have thought. With that said, it's still gorgeous and I love mine. I use all three bands, although I too tend to use the bracelet the most. The reason for that is that the bracelet has the easy micro adjustment, and the two bands are a bit of a nuisance to resize. Swapping the deployant clasp from one band to the other is also a bit of a chore. I have a couple of other watches than I wear, but I certainly wear the Overseas the most. For me, it's definitely a keeper!
Im glad your enjoying your grail watch Bruce. Wear it and enjoy it in good health. Ive been into watches for quite some time now. Ive worn everything from Rolex to Seiko and everything in between. Never had one compliment on my watch. I have learned nobody cares about what watch your wearing unless you meet another watch nerd. Wear what you like and what you enjoy regardless of brand or prestige because it really doesn't matter. Its all for your own self enjoyment. I wear my watches everywhere and dont worry if someone wants to rob me for my watch. If your in that situation chances are you may have made a bad decision before you have gotten that point. Also if your favorite watch is a Seiko 5 or a Patek Philippe wear it in good health and enjoy it because in my experience nobody else is going to notice it. I meet and see alot of people and maybe im just unlucky but i have never met a fellow watch nerd out in the wild and i work in the two of the biggest metropolitan areas on the east coast.
Beautiful bracelet, and what a movement. Great dial and iconic design. Well done.
Grail! I like the dual time to though 🤩✌🏻
Great watch. I purchased my overseas in July and absolutely love it. I got the black, but blue is on order. The blue will probably take me a year to receive; on the waiting list.
It's a timeless timepiece :) Great watch!
Man, that watch has a perfect fit on your wrist. Awesome
Thank you bro
Nice video, I hope to pick this up towards the tail end of 2021 or early 2022, just love this watch, not sure if I want the blue dial or the silver, that blue dial really does shine when the sun hits it but I have a hankering for a lighter dial. need to get my house move sorted and then it's off to the VC store in London for a chat. Congrats on getting your grail, enjoy wearing it.
Great video, thank you Bruce. That watch is awesome, and that movement is otherworldly. Those polished chamfered edges and polished chamfered screw holes...Money.
Such a beautiful watch, wow! 💗💗💗
I think selling your grail watch kills the notion of being a grail watch. To me a grail watch is a watch that you really dream of having and once you have we enjoy it and pass it on to our kids letting them know how hard you had to work for it and hope they grow to love it too. Love your Channel and your watch wish I had one. I am still saving for my grail.
Typically the hacking feature is a small hammer like piece that strikes against the side of the balance wheel and holds it in place to prevent the watch from running. A lot of high end watch brands (and Journe has explicitly stated that he) choose not to include a hacking feature because of the additional wear and tear when a 4hz rotating piece is suddenly stopped.
I agree and this could also cause inaccuracies in the future . And the truth is most people (Including me) dont set watches to the second . I set my watches +1 minute before I start winding the crown to start the movement.
I fully agree with you
Definitely a stunning piece!! Congratulations
A lot of my enjoyment for a piece is the knowledge that my watch is keeping time to the second. I may be late, but my watch isn’t allowed to be!
Awesome purchase! Congratulations and enjoy!
Bruce I’m interested in what you sold this year-a SOTC hopefully coming soon! Best regards
Yes, I'm waiting on one I have inbound then I will do it. It should be before Christmas
I think this genertion Overseas is the most beautiful and the most versatile Swiss sport watch around today.Bruce, this should be a keeper.Theres nothing better out there.Evan with the non hacking movement.
I’ve been waiting for this. Man you kept us waiting for this one ☝️
My grail watch changes all the time because I love them all! I have been in most prove ranges from AP down to Seiko’s and I have to say the sweet spot for me are brands like UN where you get something different with great quality. JlC is in the mix as well. VC is for sure the go to compared to PP and AP. in fact AP is fragile and breaks a lot. My diver did.
Agree with you, no need for only one grail. You may not try them all but so many are easy to love and appreciate
@@BruceWilliams I had the chance to grab the previous version overseas white dial on rubber (limited). $11,500 full set and I decided to skip it! Deep regret!!!!!!
Beautiful piece, the dial color & detail is incredible as is the window on the back
on the mechanism would take it over the Royal Oak anyday for the money.Thanx P.S. Tx.
That blue dial is just so gorgeous!
Great video Bruce, and great channel.
At 2:47 the perfect three watch collection!
Another great video. VCO is my favorite blue dial watch. Sadly, it is unlikely that I will get one. At $20k, it is definitely out of my reach. Although I am a saver, it is simply not in my future. I am not a rich man and I see young guys like you get these incredible watches and realize, I'm in the wrong line of work. I tip my cap to you.
You could buy a Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 Silicium blue dial on a bracelet. It's less than $1000 and it is absolutely beautiful too. If you don't mind the name that is on the watch, it will give you as much pleasure as this VC, even more as you won't have to regret having spent 21K. Believe me. And, by the way, Tissot is also a Swiss brand with a rich history.
Thanks for the video Bruce, what a beautiful watch!
According to Professor Sanders the mechanism that stops the watch for hacking is like a brake on a cart. That may be the reasoning for not having it.Enjoy in good health and wear it when you fancy feeling special.
Richard. Imo the Bracelet is more important than a hacking sec. Greetings from Germany
I don't think it's an exact comparison. In fact the time adjusting mechanism also puts some stress on the parts, but every watch still has it.
Awesome watch and great review, waiting for mine to arrive. Yeah, who cares about hacking seconds.
the problem with that watch, is when and why to leave it at home and wear something else? when I got my grail I felt that I do not need a collection...
It's one of the reasons why I trimmed the collection down so much. I have three current watches and one in transit
@@BruceWilliams Don't have the Oris anymore?
@@scottlalonde2878 No I just sold it
I agree. My grail is a Datejust and I would be perfectly ok with wearing it all the time.
My grail watch too, Bruce.
Enjoy it!!
I regards to the hacking function, I remember I've read on a forum where an owner of VCO published some emails with Vacheron Customer Service and they said it is safe to back-hack the watch ( adjusting the minute-hand backwards).
Also, what is the accuracy level that you are experiencing?
Regards from UK,
Adrian
I want to own a VC just to say Vah-she-ron Cons-tahn-tahn to anyone who will ask.
*_This watch & the review emphasize human nature well; we value high priced items as much because we pay a lot as we do because they're a good item._*
Congratulations my friend! Very nice piece.
No better all around watch exists. Beautiful beautiful dial.
Gorgeous piece Bruce! Enjoy!
Would prefer the chronograph personally, but the watch and your presentation immediately got to me!
Congrats! Beautiful watch
Great watch ,I’ve got the Pam 1033 blue dial , thanks
Congrats!!Wear it in good health my man
Glad you got your VC, happy new year
Excellent video of a fantastic watch! Well done.
This is the best blue I've seen on any watch, ever. It's just so impossibly deep.
I have the Chrono! The blue dial is made by the same dial manufacturer as the F.P.Journe Chronometre Bleu. Confirmed.
Also, the Geneva Seal is not just for the movement, it's also for the watch case too.
Interesting! Thanks
Hi Bruce. Its my Grail Watch too and also a IWC 1832 Jumbo. Greetings from Germany
What about wonderful watch !!! my grail
I have the VC Overseas Chronograph Generation II blue dial with the large date at 12:00. I love the watch as well as the beautiful blue dial. One fine point of the watch is the double deployant clasp. It is far superior to the Rolex and Omega clasps. Congratulations and nice watch.
Stunning watch, to be sure. A permanent keeper.
No idea why I have never subscribed. Now corrected 😁 Love the VC 👌
Welcome man!
I'm absolutely going to second your statement on the dial. I was looking at another VC in that range and my eyes kept being drawn back to the dial. In the particular light I was vieiwing it, there were gradiants and reflections that just kept drawing me back in. The amazing thing was that every time I was drawn back into the dial, I saw something new. It's an amazing piece and I'm both absolutely thrilled at your purchase and envious. I kind of want to disagree on the AR coating... I think the dial was perfection and it's just something you don't mess with! Thanks for showing it again! I love the video. :-)
AR is necessary in my opinion and is minimal to apply to such a great expense. Wouldn’t buy any watch without it, especially for $20k. Take Breitling over this all day
@@scottsheley7270 That's what's really cool about watches and people. Each of us have different tastes and, hopefully, there's a watch out there to cater to each taste. In my case, while I like AR, it's not a deal breaker to me. Most of my watches have it, Omega, Zenith, but some don't like Rolex. I think I prefer it on the inside of the crystal, but not on the outside. It tends to attract fingerprints and things and I keep looking at my smudged watch and thinking to myself, "Self, you better go clean this." :-)
Really terrific review
Congratulations great watch enjoy
Saving up to buy a watch you like is the best feeling ever. Enjoy
You sold it?
Stunning. This is certainly a grail piece. Congratulations!
You have a hell of a collection. I'm waiting for the new Speedmaster Moon Watch next year. Cheers Bruce
It's coming out very very soon
Have you any Information about the price?
@@BruceWilliams from what I've heard so far, it's an improvement in almost every way. So it's now top of my list (over rolex op and seamaster 300m)
@@wolper2155 Yes, It will only be about a 1k increase which is great news I thought for sure it would be much higher
Bruce. I have the Speedy with Hesalite too. And i am very happy with it.
Beautiful piece. Almost bought a blue VC OS DT last year but got offered a RO 15500 and just had to pull the trigger. Now I'm back considering the VC. My only real criticism of the VC is the lack of tapering on the bracelet. I realize it's an extremely minor detail but I always find it a bit odd when the width is the same at the lugs and the clasp. Again, beautiful piece, and congrats!
The bracelet DOES taper. It's not a big taper, but it does indeed taper.
Congratulations! You should enjoy the fruits of your labor! Cheers!
Very similar collection I have a speedmaster blue overseas and a green oyster perpetual 41 mm
Am I right in thinking the movement ticks 8 times per second, yet the sub second hash marks are divided into 5!
I fail to see the point of them being there in the first place, but surely each minute should be divided into 4 so that the second hand matches them?
I love that bracelet!
My diver grail is the Blancpain bathyscaphe in ceramic 😉
Blancpain fifty fathoms 45mm Blue ❤🎉
Will you sell it after a couple months like he did?
My new grail is the GO seaq panorama date in bicolor! I switched!
whats up with the waves in the background? are you part of the xrp community?
A real beauty ! Congratulation...
