Do you have an old Wii? Do you need to connect it to a modern TV? Then I have the exact thing for you!
The 'Wii 2 HDMI' adapter is an interesting piece of hardware that converts the propriety output of the Nintendo Wii into a more usable HDMI connector. It up-scales the outputted image, and also helps the Wii fit better into a modern gaming ecosystem.
What makes this little do-hickey even better is the fact that it's not even all that expensive. Check the video out and see what you think!

Just so you know, guys: the smaller the tv, the better this thing will work. 20 inches or less would be perfect. There are some old, used LCD monitors with HDMI/component inputs out there, as well as old HD TVs with the same inputs. With 480p resolution, what you need is a small screen on order to minimize the upscaling effect.
Fair advice. File this under things I wish I'd included in the original video!
@@BestNerdLife I bought the device yesterday, after watching your video! Cheers!
Can you connect it to a computer monitor and play it like that instead on a TV?
@@justaguy1954 should be fine if the monitor has a HDMI input.
Minimize the upscaling effect?? 🙄 oh lord, ok I've read a ton of stuff about upscaling.....so why is this bad? Everything I'm reading is indicating that upscaling is a good thing🤷♂️ But ya know, I'm reading what morons online have written, lol
Thank you ever so much for this guide. Got mine all setup as per your instructions on my Hitachi 55" tv and through this little HDMI adapter, my picture quality for the Wii is so much improved. Brilliant video guide :)
Glad I could help! Enjoy your gaming sessions. ✌️
Excellent video, really informative. I had a jar off old wee (if you'll excuse my ooze) that I was desperate to be rid of. Now it's in my telly I don't need to worry anymore! Problem is, I think I'm having similar issues as you did as my TV doesn't seem to be working any more. Oh well, you win some you lose some.
Great thanks I hope your channel grows you deserve it with your passion
I hope so too! Thanks
Thanks for showing us the settings
No problem 👍 Glad it was helpful
Thanks so much! I thought mine was bugged because it was flashing constantly. Appreciate it!
wish i could double like this video. The Tv settings tip was gold.
Maybe you can hit the like button three times? First like it, then unlike it, then like it again! 🤔
@@BestNerdLife Haha
Thanks for the tutorial I bought this earlier today to play wii sports and mario kart wii!
Glad I could help! Have fun on Wii Sports!
@@BestNerdLife does the Neoteck scart to HDMI work too? I bought one and tried it today. The picture and sound are great, but I'm finding everything sluggish. ie playing table tennis and the characters aren't moving quick enough. Balance board sluggish too. Should I be buying the one you advise for it to work better please?
Enjoy, I'm your 300th subscriber!
Oh hey! Thank you very much. 😱
I bought one from eBay just recently. But for some strange reason, the NES/SNES Virtual Console titles boot up but TV (mine is a late 2000s Panasonic Viera!) only shows a black screen when running but DOES show the Wii 'Main Menu' interface. Always think carefully before you purchase. Not all TVs are supported.
Great video bro!! Thanks!! 💪😃
Glad you liked it!
This thing has flickering black lines at the top of the screen when playing some Gamecube games...others that let you enable progressive scan immediately are fine, but the rest..... can confirm it's the adapter and not the game/wii/monitor/cable... not sure what to do
I subscribed. Love how naturally you speak unlike most RUclipsrs
Hey, thanks the sub! Appreciate it.
@@BestNerdLife the adapter is incredible but I noticed it adds very feint scanlines. Woul you know how to fix that if possible?
These are very poorly thought out items, due to them sticking out of the back so far. I haven't found one that works better than component cables as the adapters add a ton of intereference. The Mayflash Wii to HDMI alleviates this problem. Just as a side note enabling dynamic contrast and high sharpness on your TV settings will create lag and is recommended to have those settings set to off.
How do I connect it to a monitor my adapter is not showing any video but I hear sound just fuzzy image
Samsung curved one
The one I got works and has no sound issues but it's weird because it makes the TV aspect ratio small on my TV. Compared to component cables it's not as good but a decent solution since I need to have it going into an hdmi port
Change the scale to 4:3 on your tv and your all set to regular size!
Great video, very clear. Just ordered the converter. Thanks!
I'm glad it helped!😄
@@BestNerdLife Does it work on the wiiu?
@@nintendowolf I don't see why it shouldn't. Although I haven't tested it out myself because I don't have a Wii U. So I can't say 100%
@@BestNerdLife Awe okay. I just bought one so I'll let you know
@@nintendowolf Wii U has a HDMI socket at the rear.
I got one however when i use it it shows a very bright white screen on the menu and i tested it on both of the tv's that i own?
I had an audio bug with this adapter, the picture looked fine, just the audio in my OBS software was distorted, anything for that you know of?
It doesnt work for me TV says no signal
I have one of these but for some reason when I try to set my Wii to widescreen, it stays in the cropped aspect ratio and but compresses the picture further, as if it’s trying to stretch out to the widescreen but can’t. How do I fix this?
Edit: I have fixed this by changing my TV settings to 16:9 like is shown in this video. And now Wii and GameCube games play in widescreen - but now I have no idea how to record those games in widescreen, as with all the settings done on the Wii and on the TV games only record at 720x480. Is there any way I can change this?
I have a HDTV that has a composite port but not component. I'm like what the crap? I am going to get this to make my Wii look much better on my HDTV.
is the sound quality through the jack any good?
I don’t see TV type. Do I need to update?
Hey man, I have the same adapter but i get diagonal lines flickering around. Do you know a solution?
Go into your wii setting and change your resolution to 480p to 480i. Or vice versa depending on your tv.
i got this. all connected, idk if it is my HDMI cable but it's at 720*480p @ 60 HZ. idk how to try and get 1080*480p@60 HZ or does that specific resolution does not exist and I just made it up? lol
Is that audio Jack required to connect to the tv to get sound or what? I wished you covered that
Hi! It doesn't need the audio jack for sound. It should work fine with just HDMI.
Does it come with the hdmi to hdmi cable that plugs jnto the tv and wii2hdmi?
Nope, majority of these things come without a HMDI cable. You gotta provide that yourself.
Yes, much image dithering/banding and a darker screen.
My wii from eBay shipped with one of these rather than the composite or component cable and I bam happy for now so I can use my Wii, but the damn thing shorts out all the time. Something is loose inside it and I keep losing screen signal.
What's the background music? I swear I've heard it before, but I can't remember where it's from.
It's some sort of 8-bit/16-bit remix of the Sonic Lost World title theme / Windy Hill bgm. I don't know which specific remix it is or by whom though
So do you need the 3.5mm jack in order to get any audio?
No, you can get audio through the HDMI port. 3.5mm jack is just an additional way of getting audio out.
@@BestNerdLife Nice. Thanks so much for your quick reply!!
Does the HDMI output includes sound for the TV? Thanx.
Howdy! Yes the HDMI does support sound for the TV!
@@BestNerdLife Thanks this was a key detail for me. You got a new subscriber!
I actually found that the picture isnt as clean with this adapter as with component cables.

Will it look smoother and better if I use one of these rather than the default wires for the wii
Duh, but if your tv supports it use component cables instead (the Wii comes with composite cables)
@@lowsense4505 nah bro, hdmi is cheaper and better
Mine made the screen green you can still see the menu but everything is green, i have it for just a day anyone know how i can fix this or should i ask my money back?/get a replacement?
Same thing. Everyone says its poor adatper
it doesn't scale up it give out a 480p on 1080p like a zoom
But it doesnt upscale to 1080p?
Mine is 480
The wii can only perform 480p
So basically, I got this and it’s great! Only one problem..
My Wii doesn’t have audio anymore any fix for it?
you need to plug a diferent audio device I guess
@@retroree5 I thought the hdmi cable would also transfer the sound
Nice
The real question is how does it fair in terms of input lag... I'm planning to hook my old Wii up to my projector and try Guitar Hero/Rock Band... hoping the input lag won't be too big of a problem :|
I've played a few rounds of Guitar Hero and it didn't cause me much of a problem.
Question: Does it has more input lag?
cos you need that low ms gameplay on a wii
Gonna buy it now, found it for 7,80 (it was 9 cent off 😂)
Good bargain. 💪
I got one.. didn't work.. I tried other cables... Used the three hdmi options and changing settings lol.. didn't work ..... I checked with my PS4 cable . Nothing .. sent back.. maybe it was a dud.....
I have a high end Panasonic TV... So might of just been unlucky with my purchase.....
Shud i tap it up hd Adapter thanks
Will this work with the PS2?
Not this particular device. There is one specially made for PS2 though.
@@BestNerdLife Thank you for your reply, after some research I noticed that there A PS2 Adapter, but problem is: they are not selling it in my Country. :(
Sorry to hear about the PS2 adapter not selling in your country! 😕
@@BestNerdLife I don't know what to do, I really wanted to record some PS1/2 Gameplays :(
I just ordered it and all it gave me is a black screen. Wtf
Oh no! That sucks! I'm sure you can return it and get a refund. 😊 I got something the other day that didn't work either. I know how annoying it can be.
@@BestNerdLife i know. I think i know why it happened. My Wii bites za dusto.
The Wii is as old as I am. 15
"Converts your wii to hdmi, eheh eheh eheh!" 😂
I mean, technically it does 😂
I don't have wii2hdmi:(((((
Or i could just.. use a wii u i guess.
I don't use my wii as often as my wii u but this is a good option for thoses that don't have a wii u since its a bit too expensive nowadays...

What's with all the laughter? Are you telling us the truth? I don't get it.
No lies here, just a bit of nervous excitement and a genuine joy to make videos. Next time I'll be less happy I guess 😂
@BestNerdLife
Oh, OK I get that. I guess it's just hard to understand without context. I was just a bit confused. If you watch it again. You'll see my point. It was like something was going on I didn't know about.
2 questions.
1 Why are you wearing a hat?
2 Why do you keep bursting into laughter?
1. Why aren't you wearing a hat? 😉
2. Because I'm a happy bloke. 😊
