When this came out for the PC in the summer of 1995, it felt like peeking into the future of gaming, with the CD quality soundtrack recorded by a real band :)
When I was a kid, I'd always get excited when I heard the first guitar riff when the bikers drive over the car. I never heard that song prior to playing the remaster last night that wasn't muddled at whatever archaic bitrate was in the original game.
"You know what might look better on your nose?... The BAR!" Love the heck out of that intro song and such a great game with a cool post-apocalyptic/Dystopian setting
For the longest time while I was growing up this game was my favorite game! I'm really glad they remastered it. More people should experience it! Totally bad ass game! Great story!
They don't make epic games like this anymore. Man, seeing the gang closing in in the horizon gets me goosebumps together with the awesome music! Hamills voice as Rip' is so menacing
Back when the game was released, most music for videogames was composed / played on a soundcard in midi format, or had short pre-recorded music on an audio cd. Only really recent games were exploring ways to play music back as compressed (ala mp3) allowing for so much more songs and variety. Then right in the intro, the game pulles no punches and kicks off with the Gone Jackals - a rockband whom also had roots in biker culture. It was a no contest that Full Throttle picked up "Best Music" for games released in 1995.
That was my first game on my own pc, 97 year, i was 12😂,even non remaster version is smooth to play now ,30 years after release. This waht we call "all time classic"
I played this and other DOS games everyday as a kid. It always blew my mind all the hype of nintendo etc. I would be hearing about sonic thevhedgehog and mario etc. Hahahahaha. Very few of the other kids would listen. The ones who did were happy though!
The world built for this game is amazing- rural america (almost post apocalyptic), crazy gangs cave fish in particular used to facinated me when I played as a kid..a gang of insane freaks worshipping a stunt bike driver..amazing, old man Corley and his wild past. Was really sad when the sequal was canceled, but hey, I'm fine with FT being a single title, a cult classic.
There is a lot to recommend this game for, but for me it's yet another example of Mark Hamill being an awesome bad guy. Seriously, it's like the man's career could be summarized as "Luke Skywalker chose the Dark Side"
When I saw tales from the crypt demon knight in 95 when it came out on vhs I distinctly remember liking it because I thought william sadlers character had the exact same outfit as Ben Throttle, which oddly enough released only months apart from each other
movie level intro. loved the game back in the day. many possibilities with this one. big fan of Panzer General and HoMM series as well way back then. definitely one and all need a refresh for VR and "immersive-ness..
Love this game. But the inconsistency in the intro hurts my OCD. There is Ben plus 4 pole cats bikers after jumping the car, then Ben and 5 pole cats (another one randomly appeared from somewhere) when the camera zooms through them to catch up. And later 5 pole cats at the Bar with been. But why only 4 seen behind the limo as they approach????? 😅
If this was turned into a full motion picture, my conditions would be It has to be animated, and it has to be done by Ralph Bakshi or someone of his crazy level, no exceptions!
I really hate what they did with the "remixed/remastered" Gone Jackals stuff. Why make it more "modern" sounding when it's perfectly fine and hifi on the original CD release? The new drum sound sucks compared to the original. Totally awesome remaster of the game, though.
I am very glad you are liking the remaster overall! However, I am sorry to hear you are not liking the drum sound. Honestly the Gone Jackals music mix is the least modern thing we did to the sound. What you are hearing is the original tracks from the analog tapes, only in their original stereo. They are 44khz/16bit files in the remaster as opposed to 22khz/8bit. Our goal was only to reveal those tracks original untouched, uncompressed sound. I also am a rabid fan of this game. It's sound is what got me started in game audio and eventually Audio Director at Double Fine. I take your critique very seriously and appreciate your honesty.
Never expected to receive a comment from an actual developer. Wow! So the Gone Jackals stuff actually isn't remixed, but only has higher fidelity when compared to the original game? When I started my playthrough of the remaster, I was almost sure that the original drums were replaced/"enhanced" with samples and the whole mix had a very "modernized" flavor... Maybe it's just that I've got mud in my ears and/or the compression in the original version made a drastic difference. I just made a comparison and the drums on the original CD version sound more aggressive; the snare sounds a bit wider and the cymbals seem more prominent. The whole drum sound is nicely noisy and distorted. The remaster is more clean and the kick drum seems to be louder, resulting in a more "focused" but less "exploding" overall sound. At least this is what I hear... not trying to imply that my opinion is better than anyone else's. I apologize for coming off a little rude in my previous comment, I really appreciate all the effort that was put into this great remaster.
Oh, and I compared the remaster to the actual Gone Jackals CD version. The original Full Throttle game obviously had a very lo-fi sound quality on the Gone Jackals stuff... I don't miss the horribly tinny sound quality of the 1995 game, but I do prefer the awesomely raw original mix itself. Seems that the bass guitar is also more audible and gloriously gnarly on the original. Here's a link (of course it has some RUclips compression): ruclips.net/video/2OY5sUGxweM/видео.html
Nothing beats 90’s LucasArts. Innovation, humor and great storytelling.
And then Disney took over, as it is hinted here.
The epoch itself did play its role.
The internet wasn't everyplace at that time...still.
Best intro to a game ever made? Hey, it's up there!
@@ZD90SK This and Fallout 2. Life was never the same afterwards.
Both are awesome intros - but to me, the one that holds up best even by today's standards (For a game released in 1998) is Freespace 1's intro.
It's a banger, for sure
@@solangecossette1374 Don't forget Starcraft 1 intro - love it when the zerg horde approaches

I use to play this at school on the computer, lol wow have windows come along way.
@@jakejohnson2681 The band Gone Jackals is really good.
I know that feel bro. I have a special vibe in my soul if I heard this song
💜
I don't care for the remastered one. The look is off. Part of the visual charm of the original release is lost.

Agreed. 100% dope.

I've played this game so many times I've lost count. A true testament to great adventure games. Adult and funny
the person who came up with the idea that all the characters should squint is genious
staring into the sun!
According to Tim Schaeffer it was to imitate Clint Eastwood.
Played this back in 95’. \,,/
Fuck, I'm old as this game
I do miss the '90s 😢
Same, this and Dark Forces were the two games that my monthly allowances went to back then.
They don't make epic games like this anymore. Man, seeing the gang closing in in the horizon gets me goosebumps together with the awesome music! Hamills voice as Rip' is so menacing
This is a deeper plot than most movies

Best cinema intro to a game ever!
That's some hell of an intro.
One of the best games EVER!
Yeah...when I think of Maureen I think of two things: asphalt and trouble.
A true masterpiece. BTW, all in game music is played by Gone Jackals.

Yeah, well the original voice actor died... do you blame them?
Had no idea that was the reason, sad..I think it was the first game I played with such high quality production values, 10/10 voice acting.

The best Lucas Arts P&C adventure.

8:15 I could listen to it all day long.
Free on GOG right now but worth every penny it normally costs...and then some.
Played this back with an older friend back when I was 8 or 9. Reminds me of Roid Rash on Sega Cd. Great to be a 90s kid.
love these remasters. wish they improved the transitions on full throttle though
God I love this intro no many times I see it. Plus I love Ben’s bike; it’s almost as iconic as Kaneda’s from AKIRA.
I ain't puttin' my mouth on that
I like the look of the original release more than the remastered one.
This could easily be a movie

There's an odd graphics anomaly at 6:23 where you can see the underlying original graphics. Is that an ingame bug, or just a recording issue?
bug from recording an early build, fixed in released version

Very excited to play this! Will the visual bug at 6:24 be patched out?
It's fixed in the latest version, this was a pre-release recording!
There's another glitch at 1:59, the motorcycles kinda "fly" over the road
Is that fixed too?
Martin Asteasuain I see what you mean. Harder to notice.
Yeah this video was captured before launch, those things are both fixed :)
Okay, I'm interested.
Now, we need to get Monty Python's Complete Waste of Time on Steam.
