28:00 - Fun Fact: That's not just a dialogue quip, it is literally Eliot's payday. If you go back to the ATMs in the Market District after this scene, you will find more money deposited in Eliot's account which you can withdraw!
Lani Minella was also the original voice of Adria the Witch in Diablo 1, and most of the Zerg in StarCraft. I used to work for the company that hosted her personal site, so I would occasionally do tech support for her. Really nice lady!
I had a coworker who loved Blue Stinger and the absolute sucker punch I experienced at the end when I realized their internet handle is in your supporters. They truly are everywhere when it comes to Blue Stinger. Love you, friend.
About the voice direction: A few years ago, I met John St. John (Big the Cat, yet another Sonic character) at a convention. He said the worst thing he ever worked on was an ad for Blue Stinger. No matter how he would read the line, somebody from Sega was there to tell him to "do it better". Eventually, he got so fed up, he just read his lines in the most stilted Japanese accent he could muster. That was the take they used.
Any time I'm scrolling through my feed and I see _THE_ Dogs Bower on a thumbnail, I know I have to click on that video. The fact that it's a new Dungeon Chill video is also nice, I guess 😄
I love the idea of this being a Sonic AU where Rouge is Eggman's estranged daughter and Sonic's rivalry with Eggman is all because Eggman doesn't think Sonic is good enough for Rouge.
@@n4ughty_knight You're talking about theoretical Sonic fanfic. It's the weirdest and grossest genre of literature imaginable. Robotnik sleeping with a bat would be the tamest thing about it.
Lani is partly responsible for helping come up with Duke Nukem's voice, if I recall, since she directed John St John in Duke 3D. So you are not allowed you blame her for any unfortunate happenstance in the games she works on, cause she is literally legendary.
You realize Duke Nukem in Duke 3d was a hollywood amalgamation of the protagonist from They Live and other such? ...But yeah, it was cool as a kid cuz I'd seen those movies already. 😁 First pixelated tatas = Duke Nukem 3d. *Shake it baby!* *You wanna dance?*
My friend and I called it "Blue Stinker", but both genuinely enjoyed the janky ass game (except for the swimming controls). This was one of those games that most Dreamcast owners in the US owned, as it was down to $5-$10 within two months of the Dreamcast launch. I have replayed it a couple of times since '99 & I really do find it to be charming and enjoyable.
This game is a 10/10 because it accomplished it's goals it's a very 80-90s action movie. That's why I think making a joke out of the enemies and having all the money is very in line
I loved the ending reveal that basically the whole adventure was participating in some alien reproduction process. Pretty neat. Janky as all get-out, I was still all about this game in the Dreamcast days. Nice vid!
He's called Dogs?! It's always a treat when Japanese writers flex their staggering knowledge of western culture like this. (though nothing beats Raye Penber, the most authentic American name in Japanese fiction history)
To be fair, I've heard of some people in the US calling their kids "Latrine". They were told what it meant later, but they insisted it "sounded nice"...
I don't think he's actually called "Dogs". Most likely it's just a nickname they gave him. Usually bulky men in American culture have nicknames like how Dwayne Johnson is called "The Rock" Johnson. This is especially true since Dogs literally looks like Hulk Hogan (his real name is Terry Gene Bollea) and Captain Haddock.
SuperGreatFriend enlightened me in the ways of Nishigaki with his Blue Stinger and ILLBLEED videos/streams, and he really brought a unique and humorous flair to the projects he was involved in. Wish we could’ve seen more from him to be honest.
"there's also another crab monster with a Jeep on its back" after the locket reveal cut commentary is some of the most Chill Dungeon Content™ and I'm here for it
John Andersen was a friend of Mr Nishigaki and wrote a fantastic tribute to him. I'll post an extract here; "While on a break at my day job as an assistant language teacher in a junior high school in Chiba prefecture, I decided to call his office. I got a hold of the receptionist. "May I speak to Shinya Nishigaki please?" There was a pause on the other end. "Hold on one moment please." The female receptionist said. I was put on hold, a male voice answered the phone. It was not Shinya. I had been transferred to the vice-president of Cavia. "May I speak to Shinya Nishigaki please?" I repeated. "I'm sorry, Mr. Nishigaki is no longer with the company," he said in awkward English. I brought on a polite series of questions asking his whereabouts. Then he said it. "He's dead. His heart stopped," he said. It was true. I was then given a phone number for a member of Nishigaki's family who spoke fluent English, and confirmed he had suffered a heart attack at his home in Saitama on February 14th, 2004. It occurred only a month and a half after our interview. He was 42 years old."
This is insane. Literally YESTERDAY I was watching a guy playing a modded version of Bio Hazard 2, and there was, among all the tracks, THAT one from Blue Stinger. And you made this video 11 days ago? Why? And WHY is this video on my feed? Anyway, Blue Stinger is one of those "strange 2000's games" and I love it. I loved both the voice actors and the musics, so over the top and loud ahah I have dear memories of this game, one of the "early new generation" games I've ever played (if we consider that Dreamcast came out BEFORE the ps2).
I have always loved thia game and I'm glad that some of my favourite YT reviewers have finally started making videos about it... One of the funniest, most random scenes in the game IMO was when they are exploring the little oasis area with Eliot still in monster form and they are trying to look for a cure, Eliot just starts pissing green into the pond, lol
Thanks for covering these kinds of games (Deep Fear too). I was a Saturn and Dreamcast owner back in the day but never managed to play these games but remember reading about them at length. I see why I never picked them up!
Another awesome video about a weird game I've never heard of which is EXACTLY what I'm here for and Dungeon Chill doesn't disappoint. Thank you for all you do and happy holidays.
Our taste in games is uncannily similar. Everything you cover I have either played and really appreciate or are on 'the list'. I believe a lot of people who worked on this game had worked on Dark Savior which is a flawed game but so imaginative and appealing to me. I played it a couple of years ago and really loved it. It was so sad that Nishigaki passed so early but may have been a blessing as this era really marks a change in the gaming landscape.
Just reread this comment and realised I didn't mean that the death is a blessing what I meant was the following generation really saw a downturn in creativity and passion in the games industry.
I swear to god that song at 16:20 has been in thirty video games. I've never played blue stinger but I've heard like seven variations of that exact song in a lot of things.
this was my introduction to the dreamcast. this was what they had running on on in store unit. it was very "sega" looking, blue skies and palm trees. i think a lot of sega's problems were steadfastly sticking to this cartoony 1995 look and tripling down on short lifespan arcade arcade type experiences when the rest of the industry was going in the opposite direction. i still bought one with vf3, mainly for the proposed internet functionality, but i soon received a letter saying that would not be happening in my region so have a free game. i chose shenmue but i had sold my DC by the time it arrived in the mail.

I feel I would be remiss not to leave a comment mentioning "Parasite Eve" in some capacity whilst watching a video that broaches the topic of great '90s horror games set during Christmas!
Dogs and Eddie being voiced by Eggman and Sonic convinces me that these two will find each other in every universe... and irriatate each other. Anyway, I am intrigued by how this game got two long-form videos about it in pretty short succession, and the very different receptions they got. One was far more taken with the atmosphere of the game and dove deeper into that one, whereas this one speaks more of how the games level design and what's like to actually play it instead of just going through the plot beats, does not end up an endearing experience. And with a history lesson of the development of the two different camera systems to boot! All in all I feel like I've gotten a really good feel for what the game does and doesn't do, almost like I can claim stolen video game valor and say that I have played the game without having to hunt down a European copy and a European Dreamcast and play it myself! Gotta love being lazy, my favorite activity.

FYI the Jascony you fight and the Jascony Nephy fights are two different monsters. You fight the much smaller, purpleish clone while she is fighting the real deal.
I can't help but miss the horror reviews. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved your review of "Shadow of Memories", but the latest horror vid was "Are You Afraid Of The Dark?", and the last proper horror was Kuon almost two months ago.
So . . . the ending was Nephy becoming a dragon egg and a bunch of miny Nephys that need to hunt down the dragon egg when it nukes another planet? That is some fucking weird reproduction cycle.
I'm surprised you pushed through this one, parts of it seem like torture. Between the slow swim speed and the maze-like level design? Thank you for playing this so we don't have to! haha

"What will you do if a monster attacks you butt naked?"
"Them I'll fight back butt naked"

"Dogs smells something weird in the protein storage area"
You *never* want to hear that there's a strange smell in the protein storage area.
The place where I store my protein can smell pretty strange, I guess.
