They got you an old PS1 game with a PS2? That sounds like something parents would do way back when. Had an old nostalgic thought about this game a couple months ago, couldn’t remember what it was called… then went to my cabin upstate and found the disc in my old room…OVERBLOOD. Classic. Thanks for covering this, subbed.
This horror game should absolutely not be forgotten. It is a gem. A tragic, hilarious flawed gem that deserves a special place in a video game museum, and in our hearts. PIIIIIPOOOOOOO!!!!
I'm going to have to use that "some computers just don't get it" line at work. Also I legitimately just called this game "OverBurton" trying to tell someone about your video.
I can't believe they intended the clone thing to be a built-up dramatic surprise, when exactly zero people have not figured that the shady guy with the chisled jaw with the beard and same exact voice was probably another version of Raz.
I, in fact, did not piece that together until just before the reveal. Feels like I jumped backwards a couple decades when I assumed Seymour Guado was being fake-out framed as suspicious.
my first thought was that shady guy was past-Raz, who killed his partners and forgot everything of the circumstances, but then with the thing of clones i changed my mind. and then the cutscenes that couldnt be explained with different timeframes.
Overblood 2 is actually much more interesting. It's also a bad game, but it is incredibly ambitious, trying to be an proto immersive sim, cyberpunk dystopian, sci-fi action rpg with a heavy ecological message and an art style completely stolen from FF7.
exactly! like i really REALLY wanted to like it and it showed alot of promise in the beginning and also has a ton of interesting ways to do each level/mission but the level design and every other flaws had me pissed off at the game a few times and just ended up rage quitting it back then.
I had totally forgot about this game until the first seconds of the video. That was one trip on nostalgia road. Poor Peepo. Fade to Black also had several ways to die and each one had a special cutscene. I wonder if some devs tried to create a trend back then.
I remember my dad buying this for me from a charity shop when I was around 7 years old. It confused the hell out of me but I managed to get my way through the game and felt such a sense of achievement. People often overlook the sequel even more than this one but that’s a hell of a ride as well.
Peepo is a real one for keeping razz alive despite natural selection doing its best. Also im glad the algorithm has ahown me your channel! This whole video is so high quality! Thanks for making something so awesome!
The entire premise was about a scientist who got NTR'ed by his own clone, involving his clone wife... totally a unique scenario of survivor horror. Also I love everytime Earlybird's Takakazu Abe face appeared.
I feel like a new golden age of RUclips is coming quickly. I keep finding small(ish) channels like this lately that are top notch, relatively new (1-3 years), and a substantial portion of their viewers just caught on in the last 3-6 months.
Also fun fact about the Barry comparisons. Raz' Japanese voice actor (Yusaku Yara) (because yes, this is a Japanese game that was dubbed in English) would later voice Barry Burton in Resident Evil: Revelations 2. Talk about a funny coincidence.
22:17 this is LITERALLY the plot of the Thing. Not just inspired by, not in the style of, or a homage, but that computer part explains the EXACT same way the virus functions, and the girl even says "you are not the Thing" in case someone missed what story they were poorly adapting (removing all suspense by minimizing human characters, because the original is ALL about paranoia and not knowing which of them is infected).
Holy crap....for years I was looking for this game but couldn't remember what it was called. I beat this shit as a kid when it came out. Omg the memories, glad I found you through the random algorithm
Overblood isn't an RE clone because the development studio had already made Doctor Hauser on the 3DO before RE even came out. Overblood is more of an Alone in the Dark clone with a sci-fi twist and a greater focus on character interaction and Overblood 2 is so absurdly ambitious that it doesn't even fit conveniently into a regular genre and verges on being a fully 3D immersive sim with a cyberpunk aesthetic running on the PS1 and before Deus Ex even came out. It also made all of the characters British for some reason.
I completely accidentally stumbled over your channel but I have to say I really really like your content. I’ve binge watched a few of your videos and I enjoy your commentary so much. Thank you for your videos ❤
Should have said this in my original comment, but I'm actually pretty impressed by most of the voice acting. This is, after all, the era of the "Jill Sandwich" line.
I actually liked this as a kid, especially the eerie soundtrack. But the death screams of the characters never fail to freak me out, especially Millie's.
I remember watching the Super Replay of it over on GameInformer. It was one of the wildest roller coasters of emotions and gameplay I’ve ever experienced. And don’t get me started on Overblood 2…
I really hope you don't get the glitch. There is a game breaking Glitch. The GI crew had a debug playstation 3 to play it on. I REALLY hope you get to play the whole thing. That game is wild.
Dude... just found your channel, loving your content. Please don't ever stop. I just love the summarizations of stories from these old games. I watched the other video, that 3 hour one, and enjoyed all of it. Really great.
You've got both a great sense of humour and timing that makes your reviews of this iconic 90s gem so amusing to watch. Both you and your channel content certainly has the potentials to blossom, especially with the direction and way you approach the obscure/classic forgotten games you love to discuss.
When I was a kid a classmate gave me this game. Say whatever you want, but starting the game by throwing protagonists into panic enduring survival situation was a great choice! I forgot the name of the game and had troubles finding it as an adult. But that intro sequence was forever in my memory. Silent Hill 1 intro was spoilered to me. And Resident Evil 3 wants that scary. Maybe because i always feel safe when cool girl like Jill was in charge. 😎 But here you just wake up with amnesia in a cold silent room and then you protagonists starts dying from cold and you have NO IDEA what to do. I love it! But then again I didn’t get far in this game so ofcourse as a child I didn’t experience it’s highs and lows fully. Thank you for the review!
I played this with my friend when we were teenagers and several Resident Evils had already come and gone, so we were aware it was of dubious quality but also had a lot of camp value and found it pretty funny. I rented the sequel and took it to his house but it's a totally different game, in genre and how it plays - it's way more of an action adventure than a survival horror and has more modern 3D controls with floatier jumping. It feels like a surprising amount of money went into it but it wasn't released outside Japan and PAL areas, plus the PAL version apparently had a game breaking bug that would crash the game at certain door 100% of the time. My friend and I didn't reach that area though because we were expecting something way more schlocky and gave up after a couple of hours.
I had never heard of this game and I'm glad I hadn't because when it came out I would have hated it. Now I appreciate the weird unintentional campy hilarity of it. Love your videos! Almost scared of the sequel, but in that excited sort of way 😂
Haha I feel the same. If I had played this back in the day I probably would have just brushed it off as kinda meh, but now I just find it endearing and fun haha. 😆
I think raz is actually barrys secret brother and thats why they look like they could be related. Also the scene between the camera guy and his boss made me think of that one scene from force unleashed between vader and starkiller Vader: her feelings for for you arent real Starkiller: THEYRE REAL TO ME.
That door that Raz gets stuck holding up looks like it was supposed to split down the middle with the black and yellow lines. Maybe they put the texture on before they added that scene, but it looks weird when it opens from the bottom
Damn, it's so frustrating that people say it's resident evil clone. As a programmer it's totally different game engines and considering the games were released in a same year there is no way it's the clone. The story is very good, the game mechanics are amazing for the time, overall the game have a very unique experience. This combat mechanics are very ambitious for the time. Sad that this game did not receive attention. Thanks for review, I didn't know about this awesome game. As for Raz is looking similar to Barry, I think those are coincidence. It seems they had a little experience with character designs and textures, all in game seems plain and simple. And yeah, Barry face is really simple and easy to make.
Yeah I think it definitely had the misfortune of being released so close to RE. That gave it a really big name to live up to and most of the reviews back then slammed it essentially for not being RE. It was definitely ambitious though!
I love this game and video! The Barry Burton joke timing was incredible! This is the first video I've seen from you and I'm definitely gonna watch some more.
Back in the 90s I didn’t own a PlayStation (I was firmly on Team Nintendo) but back then you could rent one from Blockbuster/Hollywood etc. and I rented this game a few times along with the console. Thing is though - I didn’t own a memory card so I had to play through on ONE LIFE which you can imagine is ridiculous with all the unfair trial by error insta-death mechanics. The furthest I made it was the part with the train and of course I got ran over and proceeded to shout curses and toss the controller in frustration. Even still this game stuck with me all these years - something about the atmosphere and the eerie ambient music really made an impression on my teenage self. I still use “Raz” as my character name or gamer handle occasionally all these years later… ☺️
Pipo's the bestest bot! 🫡🥹 Fun coincidental fact: "Pipo" means "beanie" in finnish. _Now I can never dress up for winter without getting Pipo flashbacks again._
I really liked this game, the only thing I disliked was being brutalized immediately after the title screen, but after that I rarely needed to look at the guide. I especially loved the Characters and the voice acting, I felt the heart behind every scene, I still have to play the second entry of the series, it looks pretty interesting as well.
I have mixed feelings about that intro, on one hand it was kinda cool to feel like you had to hurry on the other hand it sucked to have a timer while you’re figuring things out 🤣 I’ve heard the second one is a very wild ride!
I remember playing this game when I was a kid and found it terrifying, but couldn't get far enough to the first zombie fight lol Then some years ago I found the disc and decided it was time to revisit it. And boy what a ride that was, way funnier than what I had expected 😅
@@early-tv Yeaah! And I love your takes on the game at the end, for me it was never reeeally a Resident Evil clone, but more of a product of its time. And yes, I also felt hard with Pipo's death TwT Oh also, I waited until the end of the video because I was gonna ask if you're planning on playing OverBlood 2 and I'm glad you are! This one I only knew it existed after I beat OverBlood, which was the revisit playthrough, played through it and damn, there's a lot to take in. Can't wait to see you having fun with it 🤣

my first thought was that shady guy was past-Raz, who killed his partners and forgot everything of the circumstances, but then with the thing of clones i changed my mind. and then the cutscenes that couldnt be explained with different timeframes.
Overblood 2 is actually much more interesting. It's also a bad game, but it is incredibly ambitious, trying to be an proto immersive sim, cyberpunk dystopian, sci-fi action rpg with a heavy ecological message and an art style completely stolen from FF7.
I’ve never been more sold on anything in my life
"Art style completely stolen from FF7" is not the flex they thought it was.
exactly! like i really REALLY wanted to like it and it showed alot of promise in the beginning and also has a ton of interesting ways to do each level/mission but the level design and every other flaws had me pissed off at the game a few times and just ended up rage quitting it back then.
@@direct278🤦... Other than the character models outside battle FF7's art direction was absolutely FANTASTIC!
I still miss Peepo. Someone make some Earlybird with Peepo fanart!
I’m definitely excited to play the sequel!
I think it was more overlooked because I don’t think it ever saw a US release
"Peepo? What's a Peepo?"
Me having a flashback:
"OOOHHHH, THAAATS A PEEEEEPOOO"
Raz, in tears, as he's stabbing the zombie: "YOU TOOK THE PEEPO!"
Hour long Earlybird special on a random unassuming monday? My entire week just improved 10 fold. Thank you for this blessing. 🙏
Peepo is a real one for keeping razz alive despite natural selection doing its best.
Also im glad the algorithm has ahown me your channel! This whole video is so high quality! Thanks for making something so awesome!
Thanks for the kind words! :D
Haha! That's pretty neat
Oh Pipo... Rest in spaghetti, never forgetti.
"Shes my Millie, a perfect copy, perfect in every way"
but also
"YOU'RE JUST A CLONE, YOU'RE WORTHLESS"
I played this at my mothers friends place back in the days. Considering that I only knew NES and SNES games, this was great back then^^
7:44 The thicc thighs did not in fact save lives!
Thank you! I appreciate it! ✨
that peepo death was an inside joke between me and my brother for years. PEEEEEEPOOOOO!
Never forget what they took from us. Damn you, Overblood!!
I just couldn't think anything else but "A clone of myself!?" over and over during that reveal...
I remember watching the Super Replay of it over on GameInformer. It was one of the wildest roller coasters of emotions and gameplay I’ve ever experienced. And don’t get me started on Overblood 2…
Haha I can’t wait to experience OverBlood 2 I’m sure it will be a wild ride 🤣🤣
That video and Spoony's Phantasmagoria II Let's Play are two of my biggest comfort watches whenever I need to relax.
@@early-tv you may want to reference the Super Replay of Overblood 2 if you need guidance, that game is...obtuse.
@@gaaramookowthat’s a nice way of saying “that game is BROKEN” lmao
I really hope you don't get the glitch. There is a game breaking Glitch. The GI crew had a debug playstation 3 to play it on. I REALLY hope you get to play the whole thing. That game is wild.
This was truly one of the games ever made. In general, I love the casual lounge jazz you have in the background during your voice-overs
New to the channel.
I like your avatar, voice and, most importantly, love they way you presented this game.
Thanks!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
"You are as dead to me as a lump of mold in a petri dish" that is an absolutely bazinga of a line.
Devastating line really 😩
Oh my god why does the player character's death scream sound like a looney toon just dropped an anvil on their toe
Dude... just found your channel, loving your content. Please don't ever stop. I just love the summarizations of stories from these old games. I watched the other video, that 3 hour one, and enjoyed all of it. Really great.
No, we must never forget the brave sacrifice of Pipo.
Wait till you hear the heroisms of Charlie Nash in The Legend of Chun-Li. :p
oh my god, the slapping spin followed by a faceplant at 45:36 ended me, that's gorgeous
23:31 the Umbrella logo with the sound effect really got me 😂😂😂
You've got both a great sense of humour and timing that makes your reviews of this iconic 90s gem so amusing to watch. Both you and your channel content certainly has the potentials to blossom, especially with the direction and way you approach the obscure/classic forgotten games you love to discuss.
Thank you, I appreciate it!!
No horror game should ever be forgotten just like how Raz will never forget Pipo and Milly will never forget to leave the safety on.
But here you just wake up with amnesia in a cold silent room and then you protagonists starts dying from cold and you have NO IDEA what to do.
I love it!
But then again I didn’t get far in this game so ofcourse as a child I didn’t experience it’s highs and lows fully.
Thank you for the review!
19:52 "Some computers just don't get it." Such a funny line.
every time they say the word clone, all I can hear is
"ah, a clone of myself!?"
Man to Robot : "can you understand me?"
Robot to man: *shakes head 'no'*
layers, people. layers.
Also the scene between the camera guy and his boss made me think of that one scene from force unleashed between vader and starkiller
Vader: her feelings for for you arent real
Starkiller: THEYRE REAL TO ME.
That door that Raz gets stuck holding up looks like it was supposed to split down the middle with the black and yellow lines. Maybe they put the texture on before they added that scene, but it looks weird when it opens from the bottom
So Richard Horvitz voices Raz in Psychonauts and Moxxie in Hellova Boss, where he is married to a girl named Millie.
So Raz married Millie!
Watched a playthrough of this on game informer circa 2010, changed my life
That final boss kill is very Dead Space regenerator
Thanks haha I appreciate it!
The fact he screams what sounds like 'FUUUUUUUUU-!!'
I've been trying to remember what this game was called for almost 30 years. THANK YOU.
The voice acting is actually fantastic. It’s honestly really fucking great
This game deserves at least a 6-7/10 just for Pipo existence
Ahh the days of trying to power through games with no memory cards
This one would definitely be tough to do that with it’s a bit unfair at times 😂
I approve of this format - a laid-back blend of review and playthrough.
Pipo's the bestest bot! 🫡🥹
Fun coincidental fact: "Pipo" means "beanie" in finnish.
_Now I can never dress up for winter without getting Pipo flashbacks again._
Beanie 🥹
That’s so cute haha
That death scream seriously sounds like "FUUUUUuuuuuuuu--". Cracks me up every time.
I love Overblood so much. It’s one of the worst games I’ve played. But I love it so much. RIP Pipo, Weinerless Steve’s only friend
We have Barry at home's voice actor did a pretty good job IMO. I would pay money for that death scream sample lol.
I really liked this game, the only thing I disliked was being brutalized immediately after the title screen, but after that I rarely needed to look at the guide. I especially loved the Characters and the voice acting, I felt the heart behind every scene, I still have to play the second entry of the series, it looks pretty interesting as well.
I have mixed feelings about that intro, on one hand it was kinda cool to feel like you had to hurry on the other hand it sucked to have a timer while you’re figuring things out 🤣
I’ve heard the second one is a very wild ride!
I actually played this game a lot when I was a kid. Can never forget "Peeeepoooooooo!"
I remember playing this game when I was a kid and found it terrifying, but couldn't get far enough to the first zombie fight lol
Then some years ago I found the disc and decided it was time to revisit it. And boy what a ride that was, way funnier than what I had expected 😅
Always fun to revisit games you played when you were younger 🤣
@@early-tv Yeaah! And I love your takes on the game at the end, for me it was never reeeally a Resident Evil clone, but more of a product of its time. And yes, I also felt hard with Pipo's death TwT
Oh also, I waited until the end of the video because I was gonna ask if you're planning on playing OverBlood 2 and I'm glad you are! This one I only knew it existed after I beat OverBlood, which was the revisit playthrough, played through it and damn, there's a lot to take in. Can't wait to see you having fun with it 🤣
This game’s story is so freaking dramatic and crazy I vibe with it!
Raz crying out for pipo so dramatically is the funniest and saddest thing i've ever seen 😭😂
Edit now that I've finished the vid: I unironically loved the story in this game. It's way more... romantic than I thought it would be, but i actually really like that :') It's cute.
Raz being a clone of Barry as well as himself is oddly meta.
