They got you an old PS1 game with a PS2? That sounds like something parents would do way back when. Just be glad you got an actual console and not one of those stupid little Tiger Arts handheld game things that were like $10 or something. Those were the bane of 10 year old me's existence. Anytime me and my brother asked our grandmother for a particular game, even if we described the box art to her in meticulous detail, wrote down the title, and gave her any other identifying information we could think of both relevant and not, we ended up with those.

The premise is intriguing and makes sense. He’s a bumbling idiot who doesn’t know anything because he was never supposed to wake up. So he’s not a pilot, crew, engineer because he isn’t supposed to be of any apparent use. So the mystery is why is he there? On one side, the game is undoubtedly quite original and ambitious. On the flipside, the animation quality kind of destroys any tension the game tries to provoke... Characters prance around so much it seems almost purposefully comedic. Thanks for this review, much appreciated! The PS1 and PS2 library has a lot hidden gems and rarely talked about games, that are the trademark of an era when game developers and publishers were not averse to risk and experimentation, and that's something sorely missing today.
This horror game should absolutely not be forgotten. It is a gem. A tragic, hilarious flawed gem that deserves a special place in a video game museum, and in our hearts. PIIIIIPOOOOOOO!!!!
I can't believe they intended the clone thing to be a built-up dramatic surprise, when exactly zero people have not figured that the shady guy with the chisled jaw with the beard and same exact voice was probably another version of Raz.
I, in fact, did not piece that together until just before the reveal. Feels like I jumped backwards a couple decades when I assumed Seymour Guado was being fake-out framed as suspicious.
my first thought was that shady guy was past-Raz, who killed his partners and forgot everything of the circumstances, but then with the thing of clones i changed my mind. and then the cutscenes that couldnt be explained with different timeframes.
Honestly, I don't understand why bio-engineering would ever be useful in any sort of military application. You'd need either time to train them ( _which makes them inferior to normal soldiers_ ), methods to control them ( _which are likely to be damaged, sabotaged or just plain fail_ ), or ways to end them ( _which considering they never do long-term studies, means that further mutations are highly possible, leading to the creatures running out control_ ). On top of that, they often insult, pressure, backstab or sabotage the people doing the research, meaning that the researchers have even LESS reason to do the project correctly.
Personel is the number one bottleneck of industrialized warfare. Dosn't matter how many ammunitions, guns, tanks, rockets and drohnes you can produce, you need people to use them. Hell you need people for war to make sense in the first place. So it makes sense for an authorian organisation to lust after printable soldiers, be they robots or bio-engineered clones. The problem with war-robots is they die just as easily in warfare as normal soldiers and need additional infrastructure for maintenance and repair. So it makes sense to try bio-engineering fast growing clones that can just use normal human infrastructure. As long as you reduce the 18 years it takes to make a normal soldier to a lower number, you are makeing a profit.
I remember my dad buying this for me from a charity shop when I was around 7 years old. It confused the hell out of me but I managed to get my way through the game and felt such a sense of achievement. People often overlook the sequel even more than this one but that’s a hell of a ride as well.
I had totally forgot about this game until the first seconds of the video. That was one trip on nostalgia road. Poor Peepo. Fade to Black also had several ways to die and each one had a special cutscene. I wonder if some devs tried to create a trend back then.
22:17 this is LITERALLY the plot of the Thing. Not just inspired by, not in the style of, or a homage, but that computer part explains the EXACT same way the virus functions, and the girl even says "you are not the Thing" in case someone missed what story they were poorly adapting (removing all suspense by minimizing human characters, because the original is ALL about paranoia and not knowing which of them is infected).
I legitimately thought that your voice when you said "Your real name is Barry Burton" was really her line, and I was waiting until the reveal for them to explain how it's tied to RE.... I just woke up when I was watching this. That's what I'm gonna blame it on.
I can't believe nobody else is mentioning the Milly gag. When she spun around with the finger guns and you inserted the clip of that crazy dating site lady, I nearly shit myself laughing. I haven't laughed that hard in years
The entire premise was about a scientist who got NTR'ed by his own clone, involving his clone wife... totally a unique scenario of survivor horror. Also I love everytime Earlybird's Takakazu Abe face appeared.
Had an old nostalgic thought about this game a couple months ago, couldn’t remember what it was called… then went to my cabin upstate and found the disc in my old room…OVERBLOOD. Classic. Thanks for covering this, subbed.
Also fun fact about the Barry comparisons. Raz' Japanese voice actor (Yusaku Yara) (because yes, this is a Japanese game that was dubbed in English) would later voice Barry Burton in Resident Evil: Revelations 2. Talk about a funny coincidence.
Overblood 2 is actually much more interesting. It's also a bad game, but it is incredibly ambitious, trying to be an proto immersive sim, cyberpunk dystopian, sci-fi action rpg with a heavy ecological message and an art style completely stolen from FF7.
exactly! like i really REALLY wanted to like it and it showed alot of promise in the beginning and also has a ton of interesting ways to do each level/mission but the level design and every other flaws had me pissed off at the game a few times and just ended up rage quitting it back then.
Dude... just found your channel, loving your content. Please don't ever stop. I just love the summarizations of stories from these old games. I watched the other video, that 3 hour one, and enjoyed all of it. Really great.
I feel like a new golden age of RUclips is coming quickly. I keep finding small(ish) channels like this lately that are top notch, relatively new (1-3 years), and a substantial portion of their viewers just caught on in the last 3-6 months.
It’s even funnier when something completely. obliterates him…like the giant fan…and we still get that full-lunged scream before the death tune sounds 😂
I completely accidentally stumbled over your channel but I have to say I really really like your content. I’ve binge watched a few of your videos and I enjoy your commentary so much. Thank you for your videos ❤
I love this game and video! The Barry Burton joke timing was incredible! This is the first video I've seen from you and I'm definitely gonna watch some more.
You've got both a great sense of humour and timing that makes your reviews of this iconic 90s gem so amusing to watch. Both you and your channel content certainly has the potentials to blossom, especially with the direction and way you approach the obscure/classic forgotten games you love to discuss.
That door that Raz gets stuck holding up looks like it was supposed to split down the middle with the black and yellow lines. Maybe they put the texture on before they added that scene, but it looks weird when it opens from the bottom
Holy crap....for years I was looking for this game but couldn't remember what it was called. I beat this shit as a kid when it came out. Omg the memories, glad I found you through the random algorithm
I had never heard of this game and I'm glad I hadn't because when it came out I would have hated it. Now I appreciate the weird unintentional campy hilarity of it. Love your videos! Almost scared of the sequel, but in that excited sort of way 😂
Haha I feel the same. If I had played this back in the day I probably would have just brushed it off as kinda meh, but now I just find it endearing and fun haha. 😆
Overblood isn't an RE clone because the development studio had already made Doctor Hauser on the 3DO before RE even came out. Overblood is more of an Alone in the Dark clone with a sci-fi twist and a greater focus on character interaction and Overblood 2 is so absurdly ambitious that it doesn't even fit conveniently into a regular genre and verges on being a fully 3D immersive sim with a cyberpunk aesthetic running on the PS1 and before Deus Ex even came out. It also made all of the characters British for some reason.
I actually liked this as a kid, especially the eerie soundtrack. But the death screams of the characters never fail to freak me out, especially Millie's.
So far I've seen this and your Agony video, and honestly, you immediately shot up to my top 5 gaming channels. I'd definitely put you up there with Matt McMuscles, Stop Skeletons From Fighting, Civie11, and Tangomushi. Your videos check every box for me. You do deep dives into offbeat, weird, and cult classic games, and you have perfect comedic timing, you strike this perfect balance of being informative and being hilarious. You're amazing! I can't wait to see the rest of your videos.
Pipo's the bestest bot! 🫡🥹 Fun coincidental fact: "Pipo" means "beanie" in finnish. _Now I can never dress up for winter without getting Pipo flashbacks again._
When I was a kid a classmate gave me this game. Say whatever you want, but starting the game by throwing protagonists into panic enduring survival situation was a great choice! I forgot the name of the game and had troubles finding it as an adult. But that intro sequence was forever in my memory. Silent Hill 1 intro was spoilered to me. And Resident Evil 3 wants that scary. Maybe because i always feel safe when cool girl like Jill was in charge. 😎 But here you just wake up with amnesia in a cold silent room and then you protagonists starts dying from cold and you have NO IDEA what to do. I love it! But then again I didn’t get far in this game so ofcourse as a child I didn’t experience it’s highs and lows fully. Thank you for the review!

I’m definitely excited to play the sequel!
I think it was more overlooked because I don’t think it ever saw a US release
The adventure of Raz Berry and the Pipster
Watching this after over blood 2,
Pipo is still the best brobot
Ngl, the MC's voice acting is pretty good
I can't believe nobody else is mentioning the Milly gag. When she spun around with the finger guns and you inserted the clip of that crazy dating site lady, I nearly shit myself laughing. I haven't laughed that hard in years
The protag seeing peepo as people was charming. He says he didn't survive and he died in the effort, not got broken or stopped working.
I still miss Peepo. Someone make some Earlybird with Peepo fanart!
Also fun fact about the Barry comparisons.
Raz' Japanese voice actor (Yusaku Yara) (because yes, this is a Japanese game that was dubbed in English) would later voice Barry Burton in Resident Evil: Revelations 2. Talk about a funny coincidence.
Haha! That's pretty neat
Overblood 2 is actually much more interesting. It's also a bad game, but it is incredibly ambitious, trying to be an proto immersive sim, cyberpunk dystopian, sci-fi action rpg with a heavy ecological message and an art style completely stolen from FF7.
I’ve never been more sold on anything in my life
"Art style completely stolen from FF7" is not the flex they thought it was.
exactly! like i really REALLY wanted to like it and it showed alot of promise in the beginning and also has a ton of interesting ways to do each level/mission but the level design and every other flaws had me pissed off at the game a few times and just ended up rage quitting it back then.
@@direct278🤦... Other than the character models outside battle FF7's art direction was absolutely FANTASTIC!
23:31 the Umbrella logo with the sound effect really got me 😂😂😂
Oh Pipo... Rest in spaghetti, never forgetti.
that peepo death was an inside joke between me and my brother for years. PEEEEEEPOOOOO!
Never forget what they took from us. Damn you, Overblood!!
7:44 The thicc thighs did not in fact save lives!
Dude... just found your channel, loving your content. Please don't ever stop. I just love the summarizations of stories from these old games. I watched the other video, that 3 hour one, and enjoyed all of it. Really great.
"You are as dead to me as a lump of mold in a petri dish" that is an absolutely bazinga of a line.
Devastating line really 😩
I feel like a new golden age of RUclips is coming quickly. I keep finding small(ish) channels like this lately that are top notch, relatively new (1-3 years), and a substantial portion of their viewers just caught on in the last 3-6 months.
19:52 "Some computers just don't get it." Such a funny line.
This was truly one of the games ever made. In general, I love the casual lounge jazz you have in the background during your voice-overs
Raz's death scream makes me laugh every time; Great video!
It’s even funnier when something completely. obliterates him…like the giant fan…and we still get that full-lunged scream before the death tune sounds 😂
The goofy af music in the big reveal scene is just amazing
Very cool vid of a game I'd never get to play :>
Damn that Pipo theme at 3:43 slaps way harder then it deserves to lol
I completely accidentally stumbled over your channel but I have to say I really really like your content. I’ve binge watched a few of your videos and I enjoy your commentary so much. Thank you for your videos ❤
Thank you! I appreciate it! ✨
I played this at my mothers friends place back in the days. Considering that I only knew NES and SNES games, this was great back then^^
Bahahahaha! You honestly had me going when you added the line "Your real name is Barry Burton!" Nice work! 😂
I just couldn't think anything else but "A clone of myself!?" over and over during that reveal...
No, we must never forget the brave sacrifice of Pipo.
Wait till you hear the heroisms of Charlie Nash in The Legend of Chun-Li. :p
I love this game and video! The Barry Burton joke timing was incredible! This is the first video I've seen from you and I'm definitely gonna watch some more.
Thanks haha I appreciate it!
You've got both a great sense of humour and timing that makes your reviews of this iconic 90s gem so amusing to watch. Both you and your channel content certainly has the potentials to blossom, especially with the direction and way you approach the obscure/classic forgotten games you love to discuss.
Thank you, I appreciate it!!
That door that Raz gets stuck holding up looks like it was supposed to split down the middle with the black and yellow lines. Maybe they put the texture on before they added that scene, but it looks weird when it opens from the bottom
oh my god, the slapping spin followed by a faceplant at 45:36 ended me, that's gorgeous
Imagine if every time you died in Elden Ring you had to hear that scream.
Can someone mod this please
Overblood isn't an RE clone because the development studio had already made Doctor Hauser on the 3DO before RE even came out.
Overblood is more of an Alone in the Dark clone with a sci-fi twist and a greater focus on character interaction and Overblood 2 is so absurdly ambitious that it doesn't even fit conveniently into a regular genre and verges on being a fully 3D immersive sim with a cyberpunk aesthetic running on the PS1 and before Deus Ex even came out. It also made all of the characters British for some reason.
New to the channel.
I like your avatar, voice and, most importantly, love they way you presented this game.
Thanks!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
That’s very kind of you to say, I appreciate it!! Thanks 😊
Man to Robot : "can you understand me?"
Robot to man: *shakes head 'no'*
layers, people. layers.
No horror game should ever be forgotten just like how Raz will never forget Pipo and Milly will never forget to leave the safety on.
"Shes my Millie, a perfect copy, perfect in every way"
but also
"YOU'RE JUST A CLONE, YOU'RE WORTHLESS"
I mean the vitriol he holds towards himself really seeps through the entire time.
That final boss kill is very Dead Space regenerator
The wilhelm scream and that abrupt, severely dramatic death tune is just so damn funny😂
I actually played this game a lot when I was a kid. Can never forget "Peeeepoooooooo!"
Pipo's the bestest bot! 🫡🥹
Fun coincidental fact: "Pipo" means "beanie" in finnish.
_Now I can never dress up for winter without getting Pipo flashbacks again._
Beanie 🥹
That’s so cute haha
When I was a kid a classmate gave me this game.
Say whatever you want, but starting the game by throwing protagonists into panic enduring survival situation was a great choice!
I forgot the name of the game and had troubles finding it as an adult. But that intro sequence was forever in my memory.
Silent Hill 1 intro was spoilered to me. And Resident Evil 3 wants that scary. Maybe because i always feel safe when cool girl like Jill was in charge. 😎
But here you just wake up with amnesia in a cold silent room and then you protagonists starts dying from cold and you have NO IDEA what to do.
I love it!
But then again I didn’t get far in this game so ofcourse as a child I didn’t experience it’s highs and lows fully.
Thank you for the review!
Great video, I really enjoyed it ❤ A little embarrassed to admit I got proper teary-eyed at that Pipo scene 😢 Also when RazBarry said " I wish this computer were more like Pipo. He understood." I was like you tell tjem Raz 😢🥹
Oh my god why does the player character's death scream sound like a looney toon just dropped an anvil on their toe
I just found your channel and I love it already. I love how chill your commentary style is, please keep coming!
Thank you!! I appreciate it c:
49:50 He was him.
i really enjoyed this review enjoyed the commentary and enjoyed when you let the game speak for its self you have imo alot of talent for this
subbed
Thank you I appreciate it!!
"You're real name is... BARRY BURTON!" Kills me every time 🤣👍
That death scream seriously sounds like "FUUUUUuuuuuuuu--". Cracks me up every time.
The fact he screams what sounds like 'FUUUUUUUUU-!!'
I've been trying to remember what this game was called for almost 30 years. THANK YOU.
I've seen so many old obscure horror game retrospectives and yet have never heard of this one. Nice work, and subbed :)
Thanks appreciate it!! 😊
41:15
Did no one else think this was legit!? Like I thought this was some secret tie in to RE with him actually being Barry Burton lmao I got totally tricked
Teehee I’m sneaky
