That game is so gloriously awkward, even the fight scenes with the cheesy sound effects remind me parodies of Hong Kong Kung-Fu flicks! It seems terrible at making the player feel uneasy, but it sure has a weirdly charming campy touch to it, like it's a B-movie adapted into a video game!
"OK, we have the big climatic scene where the villain undergoes a horrible transformation after being rejected. What soundtrack shall we use?" "Freestyle jazz?" "Nailed it!"
Honestly, I don't understand why bio-engineering would ever be useful in any sort of military application. You'd need either time to train them ( _which makes them inferior to normal soldiers_ ), methods to control them ( _which are likely to be damaged, sabotaged or just plain fail_ ), or ways to end them ( _which considering they never do long-term studies, means that further mutations are highly possible, leading to the creatures running out control_ ). On top of that, they often insult, pressure, backstab or sabotage the people doing the research, meaning that the researchers have even LESS reason to do the project correctly.
Overblood 2 is actually much more interesting. It's also a bad game, but it is incredibly ambitious, trying to be an proto immersive sim, cyberpunk dystopian, sci-fi action rpg with a heavy ecological message and an art style completely stolen from FF7.

I can't believe they intended the clone thing to be a built-up dramatic surprise, when exactly zero people have not figured that the shady guy with the chisled jaw with the beard and same exact voice was probably another version of Raz.
I, in fact, did not piece that together until just before the reveal. Feels like I jumped backwards a couple decades when I assumed Seymour Guado was being fake-out framed as suspicious.

You've got both a great sense of humour and timing that makes your reviews of this iconic 90s gem so amusing to watch. Both you and your channel content certainly has the potentials to blossom, especially with the direction and way you approach the obscure/classic forgotten games you love to discuss.

I'd definitely put you up there with Matt McMuscles, Stop Skeletons From Fighting, Civie11, and Tangomushi. Your videos check every box for me. You do deep dives into offbeat, weird, and cult classic games, and you have perfect comedic timing, you strike this perfect balance of being informative and being hilarious. You're amazing! I can't wait to see the rest of your videos.
I played this with my friend when we were teenagers and several Resident Evils had already come and gone, so we were aware it was of dubious quality but also had a lot of camp value and found it pretty funny. I rented the sequel and took it to his house but it's a totally different game, in genre and how it plays - it's way more of an action adventure than a survival horror and has more modern 3D controls with floatier jumping. It feels like a surprising amount of money went into it but it wasn't released outside Japan and PAL areas, plus the PAL version apparently had a game breaking bug that would crash the game at certain door 100% of the time. My friend and I didn't reach that area though because we were expecting something way more schlocky and gave up after a couple of hours.
i love how he just met the woman and he's asking her to mercy kill him if it becomes necessary and she's all "nooooo we can help you" like they grew up together
I own Overblood 2, mostly because of how obscure it is, i decided to keep it, and i'm glad i did, as this game looks like a forgotten masterpiece, in the vain of old point and click adventure games, with a lot of trial and error involved, also pipo is the best robot doggo!
I actually have fond memories of this game. Yes, the original Resident Evil was a "better game", but I actually liked this one quite a bit more. I can't really put my fingr on why. Good to revisit the experience. I remember getting completely stuck right after Raz mutates because that key card you pick up has several passcodes. It didn't occurr to 15 year old me at the time to use one of those passcodes waaay later. And by far the weirdest thing that happened was when I was trying to figure out that code and all of a sudden some weird japanese voice said something. I was playing in English. I have no idea why that happened, and it only happened one time. I could never replicate it.
I really liked this games atmosphere it really pulled off that isolated feeling with the visuals and sounds. I like RE as well, they both do different things great :D
Oh wowwww, what a shocking twist at the end...wow, yeah, totally didn't see that coming... I wonder where villains go to learn how to position themselves in a room in just such a way that their head is obscured by shadow, like that is a pretty amazing skill I wonder if they go to drama school for it and everything This was...an experience, I eagerly await the sequel
I love Razs "FUUUUUUUUUUUUU(CK)" death scream. And the fact he still manages to shout it even after being mulched by a huge fan or splattered by a bullet train rofl

I thought it was impossible for someone to have worse voice acting than OG Resi. Not only did they pull that off, they also managed to make a worse Barry. It's like the survival horror version of The Room. You've managed to find an absolute gem. A gem made entirely of shit, but a gem nonetheless 😂

You know, I was expecting much worse voice acting here. I mean, it certainly wasn't top notch, but it was a lot better than a lot of games from the same era.
Honestly, the overall story idea and the themes it brings up are interesting ones, but it's all so truncated and the actual gameplay seems almost perfunctory in how little care was put into it. I almost want a remake that puts some thought into puzzles, swapping between characters and giving the characters some actual story progression beyond "I love this guy I've known for maybe an hour at most"
You ever played Fatal Frame 2? Almost A masterpiece in my opinion.... except for this one part where you have to double back and go to a place you've already been and you have no freaking idea that that's what you're supposed to do, though it flat out tells you. That may have just been me, but I've played through the game like four times and it has definitely happened at least two of the four in the exact same spot.

Ever played Martian Gothic? Seems to be up your alley, another obscure PS1 horror game where you control multiple characters (never got really far though, kinda unforgiving for a kid who didn't play survival horror games at that time haha).
I don't think it's a Resident Evil clone personally. I mean, if you define a Resident Evil clone as a game with fixed camera angles with cheesy voice acting and dialogue and poor shooting mechanics and """puzzles""" that are really just "find the key to this lock" then sure, it's a Resident Evil clone. But I think that unlike Resident Evil, Overblood actually tries to have and to a degree achieves some real pathos and emotional connection with the audience. I never got that from Resident Evil. The question of what makes a person who they are, is a clone with someone's exact memories the same as the original, those are actual real philosophical themes that go way beyond anything Resident Evil attempted. Plus they came out the same year, they couldn't exactly have tried to copy a thing that wasn't out yet. Evil if there was some influence in development they couldn't have known Resident Evil would be the smash success that it was. Sometimes coincidences just happen like two characters looking very similar. Anyway I see in your channel's description it says for $100k I can get mostly uncensored feet pics, how much for fully uncensored?
I think it was the language problem. Judging by the time of release and some developers' names in the credit roll, it was actually japanese, so I guess the idiom wasn't translated as it should have been^^
They got you an old PS1 game with a PS2? That sounds like something parents would do way back when. Just be glad you got an actual console and not one of those stupid little Tiger Arts handheld game things that were like $10 or something. Those were the bane of 10 year old me's existence. Anytime me and my brother asked our grandmother for a particular game, even if we described the box art to her in meticulous detail, wrote down the title, and gave her any other identifying information we could think of both relevant and not, we ended up with those.
@@XstickbuddyXI was thinking maybe it was on PS2 😅 it was back in the day. PS2 console was able to play ps1 games. At least they knew you like horror stuff 😅
@@GangstaSparkleFairyI remembered there was a dragon ball z freezer saga tiger art game. I thought how do I get the ending. The game just restarted 🤔 it must be like ghouls n goblins. I must have to beat it again 🤣 and that's what I was thinking. There's games do having a ending if you max out the score... They just freeze. I was thinking, "there's no way a company would make a game with no ending. That would hurt their band." Boy, was I foolish (●__●) I actually enjoyed that weird games. I had a X-Men one too. The X-Men one was hard. Cyclops was in it & his great. I have weird tastes 😂 I like the mist hated X-Men. You can emulate these games yeah. I'm going to download a couple this week. For some childhood bs "I remember this" day weekend. Watching all old movies & playing old games from my childhood.
I just love how in the “sterilization” cutscene the computer says it will be complete in 60 seconds and then just a little over 60 seconds later it says 40 seconds left. Truly this computer learned its countdown skills from frieza.
I never had this, but I had a friend who only had this game. Played it all day. Mastered making the little robot's noise and knew just when it was going to do it. So I could go over to his house and listen to him and the robot in harmony.
The premise is intriguing and makes sense. He’s a bumbling idiot who doesn’t know anything because he was never supposed to wake up. So he’s not a pilot, crew, engineer because he isn’t supposed to be of any apparent use. So the mystery is why is he there? I had to pause the video and think about it and my theory is people decided to freeze him like Bolsheviks embalmed Lenin and put him on display. I mean look at that hair, facial structure and beard. Dude belongs on the cover of GQ magazine. For the good of humanity’s aesthetic perfection the guy needed to be put in cryostasis forever to be observed and admired by future generations. I hope my theory is correct and will resume the video now :P
The voice sounds so familiar, i couldnt quite place who it sounds like. I always saw that game in used music/game shops but never bought it. Not sure why as it was always super cheap and i was used to those goofy ,clunky sci fi horror genre adventure games of PlayStation.
David Keith!!! Thats crazy. I knew he sounded familiar. Cool actor whose been in a lot of different movies. The other surprise was Frank Welker is Pipo! Lol!!! Hilarious Lindsay Frost is Millie.
Gotta give Raz props for leading with "I've got the infection." But following it up with "If I turn, get away from me." Instead of "Bad end me" is funny as heck. "Yeah. Just like, escape. So I can bad end someone else later. As long as it's not YOU."
That robot is the most adorable one I have ever seen! Easily can be an iconic mascot if the game had more popularity, as long as Peepo is not overused ofc.
For a game called Overblood, I wasn't expecting surreal avant-garde tale of himbo on an adventure to avenge his robotic friend. And I certainly like these voices, even if direction is all over place. There is certain ethereal vibe to it.
That time extension of 'ETERNITY' clearly wasn't out of maliciousness, but because someone realized Braz would somehow accidentally kill himself moments after he becomes conscious.
In alternate universe, this game became a big hit and Resident Evil is known to be 'Overblood clone', Earlybird would refer Barry Burton as Raz look a like instead. 😂 Superb breakdown of this classic game.

I got a ps1 and a copy of overblood for my 7th birthday it was the only game I had to play till Christmas. I still think my parents hate me.
I’m so sorry but also I’m glad because this made me laugh 🤣
They got you an old PS1 game with a PS2? That sounds like something parents would do way back when. Just be glad you got an actual console and not one of those stupid little Tiger Arts handheld game things that were like $10 or something. Those were the bane of 10 year old me's existence. Anytime me and my brother asked our grandmother for a particular game, even if we described the box art to her in meticulous detail, wrote down the title, and gave her any other identifying information we could think of both relevant and not, we ended up with those.
@@GangstaSparkleFairy no my bad , they got my a ps1
That would hurt their band." Boy, was I foolish
(●__●)
I actually enjoyed that weird games.
Or from Terrance Howard
Maybe it got extremely hot so the CPU clock slowed down
@@rusi6219 True but I doubt the devs thought that deeply about it. Countdowns in most media are almost never accurate.
@@demitrismith7511 my favourite media pastime is counting bullets fired before the character reloads their gun 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I didnt know Pipo for long but I loved him more than anything
He really was the bestest bot.
this little guy was willing to protect us with his life even though we were infected. He deserves a memorial fr
The fans of Game Informer's Super Replay of this game feel the same. I have a Pipo Christmas ornament.
Im still sad over it TT
“May you find your Peepo in the waking world, Sweet Hunter…”

The scream that happens everytime you die is never not funny 😂 Gotta love those 90s adventure games where everything kills you forever lol
Anytime I saw something dangerous I’d run over to it so fast just to hear the scream 🤣🤣
love that BWWWAAAAAAHHH
@@JM-iu7qx I think it sounds more like Yosemite Sam just caught his big toe in a mousetrap and he's about to scream FUCK
It sounds a little bit like Solid Snake's death scream in MGS. Like a discount version of that I guess.

"I wish this computer were more like PIPO. He understood."
Wait a second. Raz. Barry. Raspberry? Goddamnit...
Now I’m imagining the two of them doing the fusion dance.
I think you're on to something there... 🤔🤯
Oh my god yes!!!!!!!
@@michealjennings4374 oh my gawd yaaaaaasss!!!!
Rez Barry!
9:05 "That was too close. You were almost a Raz sandwich" - Pipo, 1996
I never had this, but I had a friend who only had this game. Played it all day. Mastered making the little robot's noise and knew just when it was going to do it. So I could go over to his house and listen to him and the robot in harmony.
That's so wholesome! Pipo makes the best noises haha ✨
This has no business being so funny 😂
Given the fact that hes a clone of the head scientist with a god complex, youre most likely right.
Man Raz voice actor has really given all of his energy into the death scream
Truly a full effort scream 🤣
The voice sounds so familiar, i couldnt quite place who it sounds like.
I always saw that game in used music/game shops but never bought it. Not sure why as it was always super cheap and i was used to those goofy ,clunky sci fi horror genre adventure games of PlayStation.
David Keith!!! Thats crazy.
I knew he sounded familiar. Cool actor whose been in a lot of different movies.
The other surprise was Frank Welker is Pipo! Lol!!! Hilarious
Lindsay Frost is Millie.
@early-tv Well it's a bit better then Edward carnby Dr strangelove scream when he falls to his death in aitd2.
@@d.aardent9382 That Frank Welker credit really took me off guard
Gotta give Raz props for leading with "I've got the infection."
But following it up with "If I turn, get away from me." Instead of "Bad end me" is funny as heck.
"Yeah. Just like, escape. So I can bad end someone else later. As long as it's not YOU."
To be fair I’m not sure Raz thinks particularly far ahead 🤣🤣
That robot is the most adorable one I have ever seen! Easily can be an iconic mascot if the game had more popularity, as long as Peepo is not overused ofc.
For a game called Overblood, I wasn't expecting surreal avant-garde tale of himbo on an adventure to avenge his robotic friend. And I certainly like these voices, even if direction is all over place. There is certain ethereal vibe to it.
That time extension of 'ETERNITY' clearly wasn't out of maliciousness, but because someone realized Braz would somehow accidentally kill himself moments after he becomes conscious.
Protecting him from himself, truly a thoughtful people

"Time's up, ClOnE!"
"DON'T--"
"AFTERSHOCK."
That abrupt.. monotone, "Aftershock" hit me like a truck.
I love the sheer amount of obscure ps1 horror games. The well never seems to run dry
True! Every time I feel like I’ve heard of them all a game like this and its sequel pop up and I get intrigued and have to play them 🤣
The PS1 has so many obscure games, especially games that never made it out of Japan. I love finding out about PS1 games I have never heard of before.
Now we've even started making them again with Bloodbourne Demaster or Alisa *Alisa is awesome btw*
9:00 Between this guy's look and situation, I can't help but think of...
"That was too close! I was almost a Raz Sandwich!"
This should have 2000 likes lol
In alternate universe, this game became a big hit and Resident Evil is known to be 'Overblood clone', Earlybird would refer Barry Burton as Raz look a like instead. 😂
Superb breakdown of this classic game.
