That's the issue. The fear prevents me from asking a girl out and also prevents me from exposure. I have kinda made a legit attempt a few times, but I can never follow through. I tried first in middle school and she said yes, but I didn't know what to do after so I lost it. That encounter prevented me from trying again until early college where I asked her out and she wanted another day and I was like nevermind nevermind cause I didn't know what to do. Now it's a few months after that and I haven't tried again. Its a self fulfilling prophecy that takes courage beyond me to break out of. I will be a 40 year old virgin. Probably virgin for longer if I decide to live longer than that.

Another tip that has worked for me is being completely comfortable and confident in yourself. It helps to have some firm cool hobbies or beliefs in place too. Maybe even take a break from social situations to work on loving and becoming in touch with your beautiful self, or building up your psychological skills. When you have all that behind you, you can literally do anything and achieve a dangerous level of freedom. Just don’t be a nasty person with all that power please. I was rejected just a week ago from a girl after I had casually declared my interest in her, she said no and gave me some excuses and I was like it's fine whatever and continued the rest of the day with her as if I didn't even ask her out in the first place, sure enough she called me the next day and told me "hey let's talk about what you told me yesterday"

In my teenage years and early 20s every girl seemed to hate me and wanting me bad stuffs. BUT I never gave up my dream about that one girl wanting me good.
Today of age 26 I would say I was wrong in my early 20s and teenage years because I was prooven wrong several times.
My best 2 advices is:

I got a tip, it may not get you the girl you want, but it would boost your confidence and experience:
If there's a girl you want, but you're too shy to talk to her, infiltrate her group. Talk to her friends, both male and female. That accomplishes multiple things:
1) it makes you more confident being around her and at some point you're bound to get to talk to each other and you won't need a stupid pick up line...
2) you'll see that neither she nor her friends are perfect. When you admire people from a distance you put them on a pedestal and make yourself small, which will keep your confidence down, thus you need to find out the real person. This also gives you peoples skills over time.
3) Even if you get brutally friendzoned, you'll get far more confident at hanging out and talking with attractive girls.
4) It's a relatively safe training environment, for learning peoples skills.
5) If you're a confident and already experienced person, you may actually get to date her, after her friends introduce you to her, but let's be honest, you probably just get friendzoned. However, it may be that someone else out of her clique could become your consolation prize... In any case, you probably end up with more friends than before...
This is so true and i tell guys this all the time. Get used to rejection and move on like nothing happened. In my experience these "cool guys" did NOT try again and again. They aren't some paramount of willpower. What they did was get lucky. Lucky to be good at sports, to have an attractive girl as a child hood neighbor or friend, to have an Alpha Father who actually taught them about women, etc. Pure luck gave them the opportunity that their first experiences were good ones and not devastating so they got confidence. But I also saw many of them crash and burn in time because their success didn't actually come from within. And as soon as their "streak" ends they get totally lost because they don't understand whats happening. Actually they didn't understand it back then either but now whats happening is bad instead of good. (e.g. Any number of ex high school jocks who later turned into total losers come to mind)
