How can anyone hate a nice luxury sedan with a 640hp v8 and RWD for under $100k? I love the german offerings but something about these fast Cadillacs are very appealing. Everyone who driven one always raves about them and talk about how well they handle. People really need to give them a chance and try them out.
I bought my 2016 CTS-V almost 4 years ago and I still love it! I've got almost 40K miles and it has never given me an ounce of trouble, they nailed it! This ain't your Granddad's Caddy!
Jason, I am a Grand Daddy, and have my eye on the CTS-V...at present I have a Seville STS. Also, have a smile from ear to ear that resembles a '13 Mustang GT Coyote! Oh yeah...my first FORD!!! THEY also got it right. LUV IT! Will be behind the wheel of a CTS-V in the near future. Peace ✌.
How many "regular persons" do you actually think take the time to watch Jay Leno's car videos. I would suspect he has a pretty well focused group and they're mostly gear-heads. To the "regular persons," the modern car is little more than a "transportation device." The modern car ranks right up there with a really nice refrigerator, or a washing machine with 27 buttons on it that really look cool... well to someone who wants a "really cool" washing machine, that is just special. ;^(
I guess maybe I should have been a bit more discrete with that "fridge-comment!" I think mine may have overheard me Friday night. It died some time in the afternoon and by the time I got home from a "business meeting" everything had thawed out! The service tech won't be here until tomorrow... Tuesday!!! Damn, these new appliances are touchy! The ads keep talking about a "smart this thing" or a "smart that thing..." I'm just not convinced that all that smartness is a very good idea. Maybe I need a dumb old fridge that keeps the steaks frozen and the beer cold. I'm just a simple man; I don't need all that smartness!!
Agreed. I love Cadillac, but their marketing is (and has been) their weakest point. The Engineers put out an absolutely stellar product and then the marketing team has no idea what to do with it and nobody knows about it. For example, everybody knows about Tesla's autonomous driving, but ask most people about "Super Cruise" and they say, "huh?"
It really was pleasant...no run-arounds or marketing schemes. The car sells itself. Plus when you have someone that truly knows what he/she is talking about, all the better.
We bought a 2011 Cadillac coupe 3.6L premium 4-5 months ago. We love it, our first ''caddy''. I put a pair of Magnaflow mufflers on it, black chrome cadillac wheels and a spoiler from a 2007 colbalt, didn't have to paint it. We get lot of looks when we are out and about, young and old. O did I mention, I'm 62. Kim Love your JLG series Jay
OK, I got the chance to spend an entire day driving this, and the ATS-V with Cadillac engineers, Team Racers and pro drivers at their VLab at Circuit of the Americas, (CoTA), in Austin Tx. Now I've followed Cadillac's racing team since its inception. So I've seen what their race cars can do. But to see where their platform begins was eye opening. These cars are FAST! I was over 140 down the straights in each car by the end of the day. Faster groups got well over 150! And I never got tense or worried about what would happen next. And I'm not even an amateur class racer. These things are rock soild, stable as iron, and brakes that never heard of fade. Thank You Cadillac for a Bucket List Day!
Me and my brother just ordered our Cadillacs from Crestview Cadillac in West Covina. I ordered a white CTS-V loaded with carbon fiber package with msrp at 93k and NO MARK UP. I am giving up my 2011 S63 for this bad boy. I am very impressed with the build, platform and interior materials. My brother ordered a ATS-V loaded as well in Silver. He is giving up a 2012 E63 as well. He's been a AMG fanatic for years with this E63 being his 4th. We both decided its time to make the switch to these incredible machines. Our cars should come in around Jan-Feb and I will give my updates on RUclips regarding the switch to an American car. Great coverage on the CTS-V Jay and I am now more eager to get mine!!
I love that Jay has an engineer discuss the specifics of what the car is capable of handling and what the company is doing. You get a real sense of pride in their work from this. Nice ride!
You might take a German car because they are as good and probably better. That is not just my opinion, check most of the comparisons with the E63 AMG or the M5.
I feel honored and privileged that you reviewed this car as I am a owner of one of these lovely beauties thank you Jay greatly appreciated nothing beats an American muscle car like the iconic Cadillac. ❤️
Cyramor11 I think he meant with the power this car has you can just roll out and nail it and smoke the tires. No need to break torque except setting still and maybe that why he done it who knows.
Jay Leno, you have every single vehicle I want. From this CTS-V to your Lamborghinis. I worked on the CT6-V at Hamtramck, that’s the closest I’ll get to the V sports.
Cool, Cadillac is back. Now they should bring names too, really looking good cars need really looking good names. "ATS CTS DST CBS ABC WTF SOB" aren't names...
+DiscoBrisco most of their cars have "number names", k, cool, I saw what did you tried to do. But it's different to a brand that had names like eldorado, fleetwood, deville...
For the first 60 years of its existence Cadillac actually used numbers, letters and spelled out numbers. Example, 1911 Cadillac Model 30, 1924 Cadillac Type V-63, 1958 Cadillac Series 62.
I've said it before, and I'll happily say it again, the Americans are the ones making the good cars these days. Everyone else has fucked off and are making generic appliances, but because the US was always that little bit behind in the automotive segment, they're now building cars in that sweet spot. Let's hope that never changes.
+enigmaPL Hmm, everything has phases. Ten or fifteen years from now GM is going to turn out dogs and we'll all be buying Japanese and European. It'll take them awhile to get their poop together and then the US will build quality stuff again.
As the owner of a E60 BMW, I am impressed. It's not for me, but they turned around the company, and built a high end car. There are no real secrets in the automotive industry, so when a company decides to produce a quality line of cars they should be congratulated. And when they decide to produce junk, they should be called out for it. This is a good decision, hope they stick with it.
Jay is so funny. He is a true kid. As demonstrated in this video and others he will ask the guy a question about the car, and then break eye contact and sometimes literally walk away distracted by another aspect of the vehicle. Lu ya Jay.
Audiwan Kenobi ummmm... no. But he was pushing the selling points harder than the local used car salesman who needs 1 more sale to hit the $500 bonus. At one point, even Jay was like, okay... all that talk is nice, but let's see what it can do.

Ive owned a first gen for two years and I love it. For a 15 year old gm car it does corners well with a few suspension mods. Never thought I would be a Cadillac guy but the CTS-V has won my heart
I really like this show, I love how you guys look at cars like I do. it's the little things in life that keep me going and so far every episode has been focused on all the little things that make these cars unique and stand out from the rest. awesome show and I love your regenerating lift.
I just test drove one yesterday, because I'd never consider a cadillac, unless it was on old convertable, however the handling was amazing, the sound was even more amazing, in fact I was standing behind the car when the sales rep did a remote start and it made me jump. I can say yes it is a competitor to the Euro cars, I'm glad to see America is catching on.... so in the end I was totally blown away with the car, and didn't even know Cadillac had it..this is where the Engineers need to listen to us Marketing guys!
Jay, Absolutely Love and Miss you and The Tonight Show!! you were and are The Best!! never to be replaced! ! I never paid any attention to Cadillac's until they brought out the CTS V!! Absolutely Awesome!! I love the mix of Luxury and High Performance!! Take Care Jay!! I also love Jays Garage!! Be Blessed, Chris
60 year old Australian here. I think there is a lot of Australian influence in this car, without it I dont think it would exist. Yer see Australia has always been caught between the dual cultural influence of the USA and the UK/Europe exposing us to the best (and worse) of both. In the 60s and early 70s American cars were highly admired in many ways here - style, power, ruggedness.. but so were European cars - for different reasons - effeciency, handling, sophistication, economy. The dual influences led to us developing local cars (Holden (GM) Commodore/ Ford Falcon) that over the years evolved into something unique that combined both.. And what you have there in that type of Cadillac is the end result of where that path led. When the financial crisis and bailout at General Motors happened in 2008 GM, I believe, turned to the then succesful products of its Australian subsidiary, Holden - and took key Australian staff back to the US (including the guy who then headed Cadillac at that time) and went to work on developing US versions. One group influences another group and I think that happened here, the USA is huge and can be inward looking - normally its influence flows outwards and certainly did to Australia, but credit where credit is due. Sadly due to misguided government policy Holden and Ford ceased local production in subsequent years but hopefully a little of the legacy lives here. The Caddy is a beautiful car, and to tell the truth - I think we would love to see some Right Hand Drive versions over here.
Cadillac is about twenty years late to the game that BMW and Mercedes started back in the eighties, but their high performance has caught up to and, in some cases, surpassed the Germans. At the same time though a real Petrolhead will never be able to forget the '59 Cadillac.
numbers and bang for your buck Cadillac can surpass them but compare the ATS to the C class and 3 series or 4 series if you get the coupe. then i think the C class is better BUT the ATS runs with it and in the V id want the manual
Jordan L bang for your buck as i said. If you put the E63 AMG against this around a track they'll run side by side. The difference is the AMG isnt stressed. A lot of people fail to realise that the AMG V8's can make a lot more power than they do. But they are built for abuse on a regular basis. So is the CTS-V but i think its fair to say it wont be as reliable over the months or years
Vernon Price you're right that this is. However if i recall correctly the first generation CTS-V wasnt all that special. Sure it was more powerful and all that but i dont recall it being impressive
I just got the previous gen 2012 V with only 10k miles. I LOVE IT. Best car I've ever owned. So i bet these are even better. And the best part of caddys is you can always find them used with like no miles on them from older people who barely use em.
I have the 2014 Cadillac CTS V Wagon and I LOVE IT. I drove the CTS V sedan and went to the dealership and test drove the wagon and it is unreal. like the bat mobile. such a fun and great daily driver. I can speed to get my groceries and get to where I need in stealth with a matte black finish and that beautiful v8
germans sometimes and id say often over complicate things and theres negatives to that but there's always positives. my favorite german car is the Mercedes 600 like Jay did a piece on, and i mean why would you want hydraulic controls for EVERYTHING? other than not having bulky door and no noise of electric motors. that's overly complicated but for the right reasons though odd as it may be
+suomenpresidentti That's exactly what I was thinking (as well as "I'm surprised he is speaking in terms of the metric system" considering he's American).
+Reverend Eslam You would be surprised how many of us Americans know the metric system. Hospitals use it almost exclusively. We used it extensively in my job in the Merchant Marine. And my toolbox is full of metric and SAE, but at least nobody has to learn the Whitworth system!
+MrSparks54 Thank you for bringing that point across. Like you I learned the metric system years ago in Paramedic training. Not that difficult. It's always fun to read the bash America comments on here. I guess they forget some of us also have motorcycles and bicycles that use the metric system, and also travel the around world.
Great cadillacs these days I am a younger guy and ended up going with the AWD 2.0 ATS amazing car and I live in idaho with alot of scenic byways the car loves them! Smooth, quiet, powerful, and versitile so glad I went with it over the 3 series BMW and the maintenance costs are so much less than that of a BMW, i have 60k miles on mine and it still puts a snipe on my face everytime I drive it! Good video Jay!
Frank Newberry They might not be worried, but they're definitely not happy. The CTS-V has been impeccably engineered- a 0-60 in 3.4, reaches 200mph! with essentially the same engine as a ZR1, yet is a luxury sedan that goes toe to toe with the M5! Pretty apparent Cadillac figured it out 😃
The performance and handling are most impressive, arguably best in industry. But why is it that every Cadillac has some serious flaw? Like the interior quality, or a crappy multimedia system? Or the lack of several luxury features compared to the Germans. A Mercedes E63 AMG S isn't as sharp or fast as this Caddy. But it doesn't fall short in anything. It does everything at a very high level. Same with BMW. Can't say that about Cadillac. If you want speed and sheer thrills, buy the Caddy. If you want speed, thrills combined with luxury and refinement, buy the Benz AMG
I love the new American minds, not your 80s Seville, also love the Ford GT. Great show I grew up in Haverhill and probably passed you a couple a times on 495, John
Loving my 2019 CTS-V, just traded in my 2012 CTS-V on it, which I also loved....I traded in my 2008 CTS for that one. I am, however, very heartbroken that Cadillac will not be making the CTS-V any longer, but so glad we got one from the last year. Cadillac, this is an amazing car....I don't know what you are thinking!!!
yeah i got a 18 grey metallic edition, traded in my camaro ss with bolt ons... this is the best car ive ever been in and ive been in royces and bentleys ...they just didnt sell unfortuantely, but they will definitely be future classics ... i bought one as soon as i saw that the next gen was getting the lt4 and not the black wing v8, and ct5 will have even less power (630hp)
I love the way Cadillac does the details, brakes, carbon, engine made for the machine. This is a great American race car. I know it's a 2016, but if you find one buy it!
Jesus almighty God.. Jaws dropping State of art body, aluminum chassis wow What sweetest ride.. Really worth every penny.. Congratulations J.Lenon and GM
Yea but using German ZF steering and Italian Brembo brakes and who knows what more is cheating. Anyways it's good I also want to see M cars with so much carbon.
+adj789 Looked like a dolled up Cavalier. Remember a neighbor had one, and actually looked at it "as" a Cadillac..... it was sad.......ha. My friend Mike had one and I NEVER asked him what kind of car he said he had, when asked.
8:56 Cadillac spent several millions developing their cts-v, couldn't they get someone to design a proper engine compartment? The whole block is concealed, with a whiff of supercharger, however the plastic lunchbox that contains the coolant is fully exposed. Great car but American car builders just need to understand, small details make a big difference.
Great segment Jay. I live in Costa Rica and Just ordered my CTS V to import to CR. It will be a fine day when I fire it up and take a ride. Looking forward to the time behind the wheel!
wish I knew how harsh financing was before I got my 2012 gt500. it's paid off now but it was tough. It got to the point where I wanted to git rid of it. It's a hobby for the rich.
Daniel De La Rosa yea a fucking wagon. If you pulled up to the lights and there was a 2 door CTS-V you'd notice it and realise its a fast car. The wagon, you'd probably overlook the car even though its as fast as the 2 door. So if i were you id be quiet. A wagon doesnt attract as much attention (aka sleeper) and in most cases it's not that much slower than the 2 door variants. I guess you just think having a impractical 2 door sports car you can only drive on occasions is more fun than the practical wagon variant you can always drive
+Carl Manney Then it would defeat the purpose of Cadillac showing their "new" vehicles and David being a Chief Engineer I'm sure he isn't reading off of a brochure.
Jay, Thanks for testing the new CTS-V. I took my mom to Cadillac this week and saw the new CTS-V in the showroom. Very nice car. If it was not for the price, I would probably buy one. Most definitely something to be proud of that's made in America. Good job Cadillac! Also, ran across a few youtube videos of late night drag racing. looks like the tuners are tweaking these cars and getting over 1k horsepower out of them. This car is truly the Ferrari of of automobiles.
$94,000, my first house was cheaper. But my first house didn't do a burnout either. I like it.

I really like this show, I love how you guys look at cars like I do. it's the little things in life that keep me going and so far every episode has been focused on all the little things that make these cars unique and stand out from the rest. awesome show and I love your regenerating lift.
1:17 family car stories are always the best to hear. They never get old.
Having an engineer explain the actual difference in the car is amazing 💯 i want to be an engineer
Take on the germans? The previous CTS-V was already whooping their asses.
you so white
Isnt something like this everyones dream car? Even when i was young i loved the idea of comfort+speed, i bought a 1993 taurus SHO when i was 17.
Between this CTS-V and a HellCat Charger I think I will buy stock in tire companies!
Hell ya!
Patrick Pelletier I'm done with RUclips 😂
Jordan L bang for your buck as i said. If you put the E63 AMG against this around a track they'll run side by side. The difference is the AMG isnt stressed. A lot of people fail to realise that the AMG V8's can make a lot more power than they do. But they are built for abuse on a regular basis. So is the CTS-V but i think its fair to say it wont be as reliable over the months or years
It's almost like you weren't aware that this is the THIRD GENERATION of CTS-V.
Vernon Price you're right that this is. However if i recall correctly the first generation CTS-V wasnt all that special. Sure it was more powerful and all that but i dont recall it being impressive
The old guy impression is hilarious
I just got the previous gen 2012 V with only 10k miles. I LOVE IT. Best car I've ever owned. So i bet these are even better. And the best part of caddys is you can always find them used with like no miles on them from older people who barely use em.
I wouldn't say the 3rd Gen are better. They were all Automatic sedans.
I would take that over any Mercedes, or BMW. It's absolutely insane.
Haha ur funny guy man
@@kwakufrempong9185 thanks
@@D-Man_Jam This thing is one of the fastest sedans. Its supercar fast.
I've always been a Ford guy. I've always thought the Germans over complicate things for no apparent reason and today I truly believe Cadillac rules!
germans sometimes and id say often over complicate things and theres negatives to that but there's always positives. my favorite german car is the Mercedes 600 like Jay did a piece on, and i mean why would you want hydraulic controls for EVERYTHING? other than not having bulky door and no noise of electric motors. that's overly complicated but for the right reasons though odd as it may be
Nicely said the Germans go too far and it shows especially in the older Audi people cant afford to repair them and hard to work on.
At my job, we just replaced all Town Cars with CTX's. I only drive them in Sports mode. Sooo smooooth
My dad has this car, it's such a nice thing to drive on the road, everyone looks at the carbon fiber all over and it's just so nice, 800 HP lol
just saw one on the highway didn't want to play...looks amazing...actually looks STUNNING
Funny to hear an American talking; "8/10 of an kilogram"... In the metric system, that is actually called 800 grams.
He wasn't wrong in his vernacular, it was just a different way of saying it.
Americans like to use fraction units like 1/16 inch etc. This was probably just habit
+MrSparks54
Thank you for bringing that point across. Like you I learned the metric system years ago in Paramedic training. Not that difficult. It's always fun to read the bash America comments on here. I guess they forget some of us also have motorcycles and bicycles that use the metric system, and also travel the around world.
I love this car--will have one one day...
The only thing faster than that car is how fast it's going to depreciate..
+GunfightersINC That's perfect! Just don't tell the new owner buyers.
with the rest of the executive sport sadans.
good so I can buy one
+GunfightersINC If you are concerned with depreciation don't buy an AMG
agree. did he say $3,000 for a spoiler?
Great cadillacs these days I am a younger guy and ended up going with the AWD 2.0 ATS amazing car and I live in idaho with alot of scenic byways the car loves them! Smooth, quiet, powerful, and versitile so glad I went with it over the 3 series BMW and the maintenance costs are so much less than that of a BMW, i have 60k miles on mine and it still puts a snipe on my face everytime I drive it! Good video Jay!
More than three year old video, and I never get tired of seeing a Cadillac do a burnout.
To answer Jays question, Yes it is a four door Corvette.
Say goodbye to BMW, Cadillac cracked it! And I never liked American cars before..
well there is a few muscle cars that I like but I don't think they attract me that much..

Thanks Jay, your review of the 2016 CTS-V was the reason I snagged one today in Houston, TX.
Engineers all day! So great to hear from an Engineer, it makes a real difference
"It might, it might." Evil grin. Classic!
Exactly the comment i was looking for
I love the new American minds, not your 80s Seville, also love the Ford GT.
Great show I grew up in Haverhill and probably passed you a couple a times on 495,
John
I'm in love with this car, tired of BMW and Audis and Mercedes cars.
hahahha....yeah rigth !
Except the look MILES better than these ugly ducklings. Sad, NEW BODIES PLEASE!
Don AlSapone two folks that can't afford the rolls Royce of automobile lol
--> " tired of BMW and Audis and Mercedes cars."
Yeah... and my dick's tired of fucking supermodels all day.
MrBrenman21 Fine.. That's the problem. Very ho hum.. I like the car. For the $, ya have to LOVE it..
That guy is drier than California.
+Slam Duncan Jay wants engineers. Jay gets engineers.
+Slam Duncan
thats so you know he is an engineer
You want a comedian designing your 200 mph car or a "dry engineer"?
+Slam Duncan Works great with Jay.
He's good though. Just gimme the stats
So Jay, did ya say to him, "yeah, I'll take it. Just leave it here, I'll get my checkbook!!!"

"that was your go pro, and it just got driven over"
"oh"
"Your GoPro just became a GoNoMo."
That was the best burnout ever done on this show. Congrats Caddy!
Jesus almighty God.. Jaws dropping
State of art body, aluminum chassis wow
What sweetest ride..
Really worth every penny..
Congratulations J.Lenon and GM
Yes, we can definitely take on the Germans!
not quite
Yea but using German ZF steering and Italian Brembo brakes and who knows what more is cheating. Anyways it's good I also want to see M cars with so much carbon.
Martin W The Cadillac is only like 65% american built. All the stuff that really matters comes from Europe or Asia.
As much as i like caddys, the interior always leaves a lot to be desired
+BullrockMcHammergeil
Most definitely!!
Love it! I’d take this over a BMW or Mercedes any time! Way to go Cadillac!
Jay, quit interrupting!
I'd interrupt that annoying pretentious guy too!
jaferr14 you can't ask a question then cut him off as he's answering lmao
@@jaferr14 are you kidding me?! that guest is the most down to earth, humble guy ever!
Dave must be army. His tone is very proper and respectful.
They sure did a good job on that Cadillac you've represented Cadillac very well
My first car was a Cadillac Cimarron, anyone remember that dud?
Looked like a gussied up Chevy Cavalier. What a disaster.
+deztroyer76 Actually, it was a gussied up Cavalier.
In rebuked the Cadillac in the name of JESUS.
+adj789 Looked like a dolled up Cavalier. Remember a neighbor had one, and actually looked at it "as" a Cadillac..... it was sad.......ha. My friend Mike had one and I NEVER asked him what kind of car he said he had, when asked.
+adj789 My condolences.
Alexandre Chidiac I absolutely love this car and yes, I agree with you though America will always look like America designed them. Lol we can’t escape
Hell yeah this car can take on the Germans with out a doubt 🇺🇸
But started life as OPEL lol
Great segment Jay. I live in Costa Rica and Just ordered my CTS V to import to CR. It will be a fine day when I fire it up and take a ride. Looking forward to the time behind the wheel!
R.I.P. GoPro, you served us well.
70 grand for the v6 wow! These cars are getting to the point where no one can afford them!
they are expensive sure but they are attainable. nowadays it forces you to save up or to finance one but try and avoid financing something like that
wish I knew how harsh financing was before I got my 2012 gt500. it's paid off now but it was tough. It got to the point where I wanted to git rid of it. It's a hobby for the rich.
+Patrick Pelletier a wagon? fuckouta here smh
+Patrick Pelletier I drive a 03 cadi CTS i love that car but common man a wagon like common man😂
I hate when they bring guys in that just try to sell the car the whole time and read off a brochure
+Carl Manney They guy helped engineer the car...he is definitely not reading off a brochure
+Carl Manney Then it would defeat the purpose of Cadillac showing their "new" vehicles and David being a Chief Engineer I'm sure he isn't reading off of a brochure.
+SidewaysInTraffic thank you for telling Carl to shut up so pleasantly.
+Audiwan Kenobi Stfu
Carl Manney if you can't take the heat then get out of the kitchen.
This car is truly the Ferrari of of automobiles.
thank you Jay, that bit about your Dad was special. Your reviews are excellent and I thoroughly enjoy each one.
Cadillac guy: "Your GoPro just fell off and got run over"
Jay: "Oh no that sucks" *Continues driving*
