    From a storytelling perspective, you need episode 10. While it's not as action-packed as previous episodes, it delivers the emotional catharsis that both of the characters (and the audience) needed after dealing with those first 9 parts.

    Jaby and Achara need to have a conversation about how they discuss their thoughts after watching something. Ever so often, it becomes Jaby disagreeing with Achara, which is totally fine. But then anything that Achara says post that, it's Jaby interrupting or disagreeing. The point of the discussion, for me at least, is not for Achara to convince Jaby. He can have his views, as can she. And they both can listen to each other and in case they disagree, that's ok. But it's mostly Achara listening to Jaby (also on the other channel).
    Most times, I want to hear more from Achara. At least the courtesy of completing her thoughts.

      This is my first time on their channel and watching a video of them and I was thinking the exact same thing. I was like this dude has such a strong personality. achara’s entire attitude the whole postgame was my exact attitude as well. listening to someone rant about how they were angry at suicidal fictional characters instead of compassionate. danny also called off the robbery when george showed him respect and affirmed his art interpretation.
    there’s plenty that shows the characters are good people. also those mistakes also don’t make people who they are. people are capable of changing and id gladly hang out with either of these characters. they’re relatable and down to earth and not insufferable personalities. they just have trauma lol. is jaby saying he doesn’t hang out with people who have trauma?

    The point of every storyline doesn't need to center on redeemable characters. That's the beauty of fiction, a character doesn't need to be a "good" person in order to be compelling or interesting to watch. You can reflect quite a lot on bad people making mistakes or doing bad things.

  • @brandingus2081
    @brandingus2081 Год назад +5

    I loved episode 10 and thought it wrapped the show up perfectly. If you look at what jumpstarts the story, learning the circumstances surrounding Danny and Amy (Suicidal and Emotional Repression, respectively) makes their road rage incident understandable, though obviously not acceptable. Understanding their lives gives an understanding of why they make terrible, selfish decisions, and in the end both of them come to understand and love each other, which is a monumental achievement for the characters because of how adversarial they had been. Everything that happens story-wise, to me, is just a way to underpin Danny and Amy's inability to love and trust not only others but also themselves because of the damage that's been done to them and the continual cycle of damage they produce because of it. It makes both characters relatable, though it is an extreme and dramatized representation. It is one of the most impactful shows I've ever had the pleasure of watching.
    Also, when Danny and Amy are speaking as each other you can see everything surrounding them move as it does when you're tripping. It's such a cool, subtle effect. Love it.

    I thought the ending was good and worked as an allegory for that moment of enlightenment and epiphany that does basically what Jaby was talking about - they managed to see each other's humanity and understood that fundamentally they were the same - I didn't really see it as they were "together" in the end, but that they connected and were part of their own evolution as humans to a more elevated perception of reality

    I think you're confusing likeability with empathy. Talking about Scorcese characters or say someone like Tony Soprano. Yeah sure they are likeable cos they're cool or badass or funny, but they are complete amoral assholes who you could never empathise with. Whereas Danny and Amy are not likelable in any way but you can certainly empathise with them and how they see themselves. And that ultimately gives you a stronger connection than simply liking someone, whether they are a real person or a character in a TV show.

    What Achara said @19:55 "We are just People...!" Sometimes I feel like you (Jaby ) live in your own reality, where people have to be flawless to be accepted as "good human beings".
    Reality is: Your Phone, your Watch, the studio eqiupment you record your reactions on, everything is made with cobalt, silicone and or lithium. You can be sure somewhere in Africa a little kid had to crawl in a narrow, hot mineshaft to get them out. By your measurement of morality, you are a not a good person if you support this kind of exploitation by using this products. Why are you doing it anyway? Waving morality in front of you isn't a good look, when you yourself can not guarantee to live a moraly uncorrupted life. It doesn't mean you are a bad person because you buy or use your phone or equipment, but it means that people can do bad things without being inherently bad people.

  • @dannyy8619
    @dannyy8619 Год назад +11

    I say this with as much kindness as possible, but Jaby you really should do a rewatch of this series one day because you're missing the mark. Having compassion and empathy doesn't mean that we can't have integrity and call bad behavior out for what it is. What this show should have taught you is that these characters are complex, who are trying to do good but failing continuously along the way. That is literally life and that is what people are. The mere fact that you think Danny is being selfish for trying to do good for his parents tells me that you don't actually understand these characters and motivations at all. Like seriously you're going to just take Isaac's word that he's trying to be a good guy? The dude might as well have flat antagonist written across his chest. If the show didn't do a good job of persuading you on it's message, or it didn't entertain you, that's fine. But I've seen your reaction and Achara's reaction for 10 episodes now, and I was hoping by episode 10 maybe it'd click for you like it did for Achara. But I don't think you're actually viewing it from a more neutral, healthy perspective as you might think you are.

    There were some moments in the show where the characters were trying to do something good, but I agree that there were very, very, few of those moments, and it would've been nice if there were a couple more of them. I am glad that Paul was able to free himself from Danny and I'm glad that Danny finally let go of controlling Paul.
    I don't blame people who don't feel they are capable of working out a relationship (romantic, family, or friendship) with someone who is going down a road of self-destruction. I commend those who are willing to extend their empathy and exercise patience as much as they can with that person. I feel for Danny and Amy, but, in reality, I would most likely distance myself from them and not lend them my trust until they recognize how valuable someone's trust is and do better with how they treat themselves and other people. Placing your issues onto someone else like they aren't human, taking advantage of them, and treating them like dirt is not okay. Whether you are suffering from trauma or not, treating people the way Amy and Danny treated people, was not acceptable. Amy should've exercised patience and not been so reactive after her first incident with Danny, while Danny should've given himself grace after making a mistake and could've brushed off the negative reaction that Amy gave in the parking lot.
    Personally, there is only so much grace I can give to a person that's going through it. If it's at the cost of my own safety and mental health, I would need to distance myself from them for a while. Even if that person was very close to me. I would support them from the sidelines here and there, but that person would really need to seek professional help first and foremost (at least seek out a support group).
    However, I do think it's still important to not only give ourselves grace but also try to lend grace to other people (if you are able to). Try to exercise grace, empathy, kindness, and patience towards yourself and others whenever you can. But if it begins to be too much where you feel like someone else's burden is causing your life to be much worse and unsafe, then I think the decision to give yourself some distance between you and the other person is a valid one.
