Is this refereeing situation ever going to improve? I had high hopes of better officiating going into the new season and we have been let down already, both on and off field refs very poor, Pawson is dreadful.
Can’t even add anything to That Keith you’ve summed the whole game up tremendously . The red card should get overturned if football wants to have some common sense. That red card just spoiled the whole spectacle and clear cheating for me Diaz. One thing you don’t do is come to Newcastle and upset the crowd 🕺🏻🏳️🏴
VAR Kavanagh has much to answer for but that's a separate issue. The referee is in charge of the match, and I place *all* the blame for this on Pawson. He created the situation. Bruno was fouled and Pawson's initial reaction was to hesitate. There was no advantage to consider. After the foul, Pawson is ahead of play and *visually* signals (no whistle yet), then jogs nearly 10 yards into the center circle before raising his whistle to his lips. This is an eternity to players, and most of them weren't aware of his visual signal. You can see player confusion and frustration all over the pitch during these few seconds. AFTER THE LATE WHISTLE, three seconds pass while Diaz runs over ten yards, lowers his left shoulder, pushes off his right foot and barges Schar in the centre of his back. *That* is the only thing here that begins to approach violent conduct. Pawson is busy dealing with Bruno's reaction while this is happening. Pawson CREATED THIS MESS. While he isn't responsible for the two players' actions, he is responsible for creating the confusion and tension that gave rise to them. Referees are trained and expected to anticipate and to diffuse, to make clear signals, both visual and with the whistle or voice (advantage). Pawson did none of this. He wouldn't have passed a local assessment in a Sunday league match with this display. His last error was a failure to self-assess how he had created a problem and to stack another error (red card) on top of this tragic comedy instead of fixing the damn situation.
If that was a sending off my god VAR-has got a lot to answer for saying that the ref should have had a word with Diaz for going down like he’s been shot
Don't know what was funniest, Pawson being called a referee or McLaren beating Bruce to the Jamaica job. Another shocking VAR decision but not as bad as the one for West Ham's penalty
the ref needs to have a word with himself!! Before the sending off we seem to have reaped the rewards of a poor transfer window - having said that we would have lost this game last year
Newcastle's new problem I'm seeing is when we face a different formation Keith, we seen Luton and Forest come up to St. James' last season and play 442 and walk away with point(s) as with Soton today playing 352 and we struggle to match the tactics on the pitch when we face teams who play a different formation to the new regular 433 that most top teams play now and with Luton last season they started the season trying to play the same 433 and it wasn't working for them, they changed back to what they were playing in the Championship 442 and started getting results and points on the board, could be an idea for Eddie and the team to learn how to combat a 352 or a 442 by then matching the tactical formation, 352 is a solid formation for attack and defence if you have quick physical wing backs....
The refereeing for the start of this season has been appalling. The referee give Andreas for Fulham vs Man U a yellow card yesterday for taking a quick free kick when two Man U players were not retreating from the ball I actually couldn't believe it never seen that before in my life WTF.
Keith, Yet another great video, thanks. Sorry, the rule does't need changing, it works the way it is. Sadly it's the officials that are inadequate. Don't know how you rectify that when it only seems to be Dumb Dumbs who put up for the job. It's a great shame that we've totally lost the concept and ethic of sportsmanship. All that seems to matter now is winning at whatever cost and money. I'm 82 now but in late 50's thro 60's and early seventies I played in the Northern Amateur league and guess that we could have easily got through 90 minutes without official and just simply played to the rules, we did that on our training kick-abouts.
The refs and var were shocking. I have never been so enraged. He deserved all the booing he got. We were not great in the first half hour. Everyone was so nervous and the players were losing possession cheaply. Once the sending off happened it was a different game. Thanks to big Joe once we went ahead we never looked losing. If Tripps goes i think he would be a good signing for ourselves ge can play Left back or Right back Joelinton was absolutely superb. In all fairness gutsy 3 points today. We were well off it b4 the sending off. Far to slow moving the ball. Also us going long ball the whole game rather than Pope rolling it out to either full back was crazy. Think wee need a Centre Back in more than ever now.
No way we should pay that much for guehi. Hes clearly not worth 50 million nevermind whatever palace are trying to get for him. Krafts a decent backup for the time being.
The rule that sent Schar off apparently says "A player who when not challenging for the ball deliberatly strikes an opponent or any other person on the head or face with the hand or arm is guilty of voilent conduct unless the force used was negligible." It was certainly negligible so the Ref shouldn't have sent him off. NUFC should use this to appeal against the sending off and the 3 match ban.
All the schar decision really proved. Is that youre allowed to antagonise, playact and still get the best decision. Nevermind the fact it also proved that diaz is genuinelly useless as a footballer and missed more than one chance to actually make a POSITIVE difference for his team. Fortunately for newcastle and football in general, diaz's behaviour not only contributed to a poor decision overall, (schar deserved it by the book, but touroises have moved their hesds faster) his actions actually HELPED newcastle win by his inability to score easy goals. And by his actions causing fair hostility from the crowd which ended up helping Newcastles players have true fight and win the match. I think Diaz's actions are a fair outcome of HOW NOT to behave on a football pitch and help your team win.(Or lose...in this case)
Not the greatest performance today by the toon but thanks to our defending somehow we managed to get the three points. So that will do for us Newcastles fans today.
The problem was apparent for me. We didn't keep the ball well enough in tight areas. The lack of pace at centre back weighs on everyone's mind. It will definitely cost us this season if we don't sign that quality centre back. We need pace in there. Tonali will add that class. And as much as I love Murphy, we need that extra quality wide right. Hard work is great but it not going to win you the tighter games.
First duty of the ref is to protect the players. If Diaz had knocked over Murphy or Pope (people with dislocated shoulders) then would the ref have done anything?
Liverpool wasn’t great 1st half today Man Utd last night wasn’t great 1st half and we was bad today but we all got a result but it’s not good enough good report as always Keith
It baffles me how the best league in the world has the worst refs not just poor sending off but the poor lad at forest that broke his league because the lino put his flag up late it's becoming a poor look for the premire league
This is not the first time we have had dubious decisions from this referee. Blowing the whistle over and over not playing advantage how many times does Bruno have to be fowled before a card comes out absolutely awful refereeing
Schar simply reacted like any man would. Diaz barged into him from behind after the whistle had gone [very brave] then feigned injury like a pathetic coward when confronted. Critizing Schar shows where the game is. Cheating is "clever". Schar is a great player, Diaz is shit.
Mostly brilliant comments, except at the end. I disagree about gaehi and our position at CB. We should still walk away from Palace negotiations. Schar missing doesnt mean we have to be financial mugs. Krafth has shown himself to be a capable cover option at CB. Trust him and give him his chance
@@georgemorley1029 i have never saw a midfield so open and it is not the personnel as such, it is that flat three set up, we are crying out for a cdm or one of them has to sit. we play with three no 8's, tonali and willock offer no different. then the defence get the blame, who is protecting them?
Ive watched u15s retain and use the ball better than what Newcastle just did before the red card. The midfield turn the ball over so often it means the forwards are out of the game. This is a huge weakness of the team of course after the red its more difficult. That needs to improve big time if we are to achieve anything.

He’s a bad ref, end of.
Big Joey The Warrior 🖤🤍💪🏾 That diving divvy diva, Diaz, is disgraceful!
Fabian Schar temple must be made of Adamantium, Diaz almost died from the slightest of touch.
It was just a Man, vs a fairy.
First duty of the ref is to protect the players. If Diaz had knocked over Murphy or Pope (people with dislocated shoulders) then would the ref have done anything?
Don't worry Keith we've got loads of centre backs man!
£75M bid for Guehi on the way to Palace at half-time. 👍
Liverpool wasn’t great 1st half today Man Utd last night wasn’t great 1st half and we was bad today but we all got a result but it’s not good enough good report as always Keith
Keith i think u should look at improving the audio for the video. Watched it alongside Craig’s video n his had a lot less background noise.
Both Hall and Livremento looked shaky
Love you Keith, bad result for the jam tarts today :(
It baffles me how the best league in the world has the worst refs not just poor sending off but the poor lad at forest that broke his league because the lino put his flag up late it's becoming a poor look for the premire league
This is not the first time we have had dubious decisions from this referee. Blowing the whistle over and over not playing advantage how many times does Bruno have to be fowled before a card comes out absolutely awful refereeing
Do you honestly think that the types of characters who go into refereeing care about common sense though? It's all about petty power games.
VAR is meant to uphold the on field decision unless obvious evidence. Pawson has always been a complete joke, the blame is with him.
'Officials' again...
Schar simply reacted like any man would. Diaz barged into him from behind after the whistle had gone [very brave] then feigned injury like a pathetic coward when confronted. Critizing Schar shows where the game is. Cheating is "clever". Schar is a great player, Diaz is shit.
Schar is a man that doesn't wuss out of a confrontation, Diaz is just a fanny.
the FA EPL should summarize the VAR tapes on these sorts of decisions hurt the integrity of sport?
Mostly brilliant comments, except at the end. I disagree about gaehi and our position at CB. We should still walk away from Palace negotiations. Schar missing doesnt mean we have to be financial mugs. Krafth has shown himself to be a capable cover option at CB. Trust him and give him his chance
We can’t have our paints pulled down over the price for Guehi just because we lost Schar for 3 games simply can’t be done
Var is a disgrace
Think they should walk away from the Guehi deal to send a message to all other clubs Newcastle are not going to give in everytime.
i thought the defence done well, the midfield before the sending off was the problem
We had a worrying tendency to press and get passed straight through which was the story for much of last season.
Correct you’d never see arsenal or city down to 10 men defend and have so little control of the ball no matter who the opponents are
Palace will just up the price now
Palace ain't selling
It is utterly ridiculous that VAR is not used in this context, or why have it at all? That Southampton player should be given a several match ban retrospectively. It's not rocket science.
Guehi for £75M or Joe Gomez for £25M?
