PAGAN EUROPE (HEIDENS EUROPA)

Christmas, Santaclaus, the Dutch Sinterklaas, Halloween and many other winter celebrations have very ancient, pre-Christian origins. They are rites that connect us and bring us together. They still exist in quite untouched forms in isolated places in all Europe and the Eurasian continent, in small villages. The residents often don't want you to come and watch, but the films 'My Encounters with the Devil' and 'Pagan Europe', filmed all over Europe, show why they are valuable cultural heritage, living deep within us.

To the man saying it's good luck for the baby....really its not. In the ancient day's giving your baby, you might not get it back. It comes from sacrificing children under the age of 1 to a pagan god to ward of evil. They were put in a copper statue heated by fire...hence the black theme, the children theme, and the theme of the demons. Its really really old. Obviously fortunately a lot has changed. The way we celebrate new years eve with the fireworks and bangs etc, also comes from paganism, the fireworks, loud noises fire etc was used to scare away demons in the dark months. Over centuries things changed and most don't really know why we have the 5th of december celebration. The church over time tried to change and merge santa into christmas because they could not control the people if they forbid all traditions. On the other hand in church there are a lot of symbols that come from paganism too. like the cross with the circle and many more.
