Rudy did not mention the number 1 reason why Metazoo failed and will not ever have a comeback: The game is terrible and has zero game support. The vast majority of Metazoo enthusiasts were investor bros who didn’t give to flips about Metazoo as a game and for the players that actually played the game, they hated it. For all the misgivings that WotC gets for handling MTG, they still are able to readjust and adapt and continue standing the test of time. Why? Because MTG continues to be the best TCG as a game. Metazoo was doomed from the start. It deserves to stay a failed and dead TCG.
As someone who did play the game and went to tournaments I enjoyed it a lot. The 4th wall effects were interesting and made for a lot of funny moments with opponents. Metazoo is the best tcg, I got almost all the sample cards and even most of the serialized cards in my albums. Even some of the prototypes cards that Mike made earlier. Metazoo to the MOON!
I still remember buying Metazoo back at comic con from the booth themselves, only to find out that the sets I bought were being sold for less at other vendors at the con. Reading the rules and seeing how janky it is but always yelling about buying them all and having little competitive play also raised a huge red flag to me. It was clearly obvious that metazoo was never to be a serious card game but a scam. Kinda disheartening since tcgs were always fun regardless of collectibility, but it just feels they wanted another pokemon tcg boom, not to make a tcg
Never tried Metazoo. But do like TCGs, getting my start in the hobby way back with Decipher's Star Trek CCG (It's first edition game printed it's final expansion over 20 years ago). Some of those sealed booster boxes command some insane prices today. Some of the individual cards command insane prices today too. It's not always about speculation. If the game was loved and enjoyed, people will continue to buy and collect and play it. The fact that it isnt printing further expansions won't change that. It just means that instead of buying a box of the newest release, players can put money towards older sets and chase cards they missed.
As a complete outsider looking in, I just never understood it. I have never seen anyone play this game, I never saw them move at any LGS or even big box stores, and I never saw singles being sold at any LGS. Add that on top of the admittedly child-like art style, there was just never interest from me or anyone I know. It's cutesy and endearing but not worth paying money for. 🤷♂️
I for one cant trash any upstart trying to enter the CCG space. It's a super hard industry to enter. And you can see there was indeed effort put into Metazoo. The CCG space needs more variety. This certainly seemed off to a good start. Sucks it failed, I know there was drama at some point but havent yet seen a detailed breakdown of what went wrong. Prices collapsing is expected. Especially in the beginning when people arent sure how rare or demand there will be for cards. Then when the product evens out, there will always be a correction. But something else went wrong with this venture which made the correction impact more painful. Although I'm not a fan of the theme, im glad it wasnt just yet another fantasy CCG and actually tried something different. Unrelated note, I think a SciFi CCG woud be pretty cool. Also commend you for trying help bring attention to a CCG upstart, the space is already fierce so help people know about something new shouldnt demonized. Tons companies I supported and recommended in the past later turned to sour grapes later down the line, it happens. But hope that doest ruin future call outs to smaller up start CCGs. Probably good idea though, to watch them closely before a big endorsement.
I think Metazoo will end up being another of those game like, Decipher's Star Trek or Star Wars, or Legend of the 5 Rings. That still have a following of players and people looking to buy sealed products.
metazoo was a rug pull from the start. just by the name and art ment the owners never took it as a serious tcg and just wanted to pump collectible hype to cash out and run.

Rudy already got wrecked by MetaZoo, so I can't blame him for not being interested in buying its remains. No chance it gets resurrected and does well after that. It's already hard enough for any new TCG to take off, so likely impossible for a MetaZoo re-run given the level of bitterness and hate against the game.

I'll answer it for you. No
o I still see LEGO in the background. Much better than metazoo
Tragic too: I still got my boxes, play mats and stuff. Poor me.
What differentiates the rudy fanart packs on the product packaging from the normal fanart packs? How can you tell the difference?
The real world cryptid stuff was kinda cool but enough to really get me invested. But if I saw a mothman deck at walmart id probably buy it.
I think there is a 0% chance it successfully returns. The game was basically toxic to game stores from the start.
Does Rudy own the house from Scarface?
Buy for penny’s sell for millions been waiting for a video like this
Appreciate the video Rudy 🎉
35:00 _"Ya gots to amateurize!"_ -Rudy Alpha Investments, Professional Financial Scientist
Thanks for the video, Rudy
Man who spends his life turning card games into speculative investment vehicles shocked when an out of print card game that he turned into a speculative investment vehicle suddenly goes up in price
Well I guess it can never be reprinted anymore
Does Rudy have a Scrooge McDuck pool full of dented booster boxes that he swims in?
this what Rudy gets for being a sell out to a RUG . You have to remember when ever a new TCG makes a promo of him, RUDY PROMOTES IT AND GOS ALL BALLS TO THE WALLS!
Rudy Invests based on feelings and his own self pride. i wouldn't trust this guy with anithing.
Metazoo is the best tcg, I got almost all the sample cards and even most of the serialized cards in my albums. Even some of the prototypes cards that Mike made earlier. Metazoo to the MOON!
Imagine that the cash grab game died and turned out to be a cash grab
I still remember buying Metazoo back at comic con from the booth themselves, only to find out that the sets I bought were being sold for less at other vendors at the con. Reading the rules and seeing how janky it is but always yelling about buying them all and having little competitive play also raised a huge red flag to me. It was clearly obvious that metazoo was never to be a serious card game but a scam. Kinda disheartening since tcgs were always fun regardless of collectibility, but it just feels they wanted another pokemon tcg boom, not to make a tcg
Rudy knows that when a company is doing very bad the last thing a CEO will do is disclosing that.
People hate on the artwork, but I actually really like the artwork.
When will Metazoo be delisted from TCGPlayer?
How can people be so mad that they send threatening messages. People are messed up!
I'm freaking addicted to sumo wrestling
I thought the previous video was you last video on Metazoo? Just kidding really. I find the fall-off to be very interesting. So much potential...
The story of MetaZoo and Rudys heavy bags.
Nice! The updated I wanted!
Metazoo would have been perfect as a entry product into card collecting, if the prices had started at where they are now, it would have beem awesome.
metazoo was a rug pull from the start. just by the name and art ment the owners never took it as a serious tcg and just wanted to pump collectible hype to cash out and run.
I just think it's so cool and wholesome that you and your family made cards together for the game, IMHO it makes the cards priceless
Wow I’m late to the comments, already 271, hmmm put some MetaZoo in your abandoned bathroom and watch them have value in 3 years. I love the Rudy promos and hope that tradition continues with the new ownership. Hates are a sign you’re doing the right thing. I need more haters lol. Anyways I’m looking forward to your next MetaZoo video. Sell some shares in PCG grading and join the MetaZoo team, a new MetaZoo is going to epic.
Unburdened by what has been!
Florida man slowly tries to piss of the internet
I've enjoyed FAB, Sorcery, other games that Rudy has shared/spoke on over the years. Never saw the appeal for MetaZoo. Never got it -- but did that stop me from listening to this entire video? No. Also hearing that Rudy is turning 40 and has a full plate - we're getting old.
If you're ever comfortable, I'd love to see more of your art collection in a video tour. I certainly respect your privacy and wouldn't want you revealing private parts of your home. I just like classical art and you seem to have a keen eye for it.
22:47 Very nice Rudy, you are a decent bloke :) I was wondering if you were going to offer the guy a Rudy card if you didn't pull one.
Buy it and rebrand it to Zoologist and turn it to commander
Just bought a box of Cryptid Nation 2nd edition so I have a piece of history of something that collapsed and went (almost) to zero.
Much love big fella 💯
Rudy already got wrecked by MetaZoo, so I can't blame him for not being interested in buying its remains. No chance it gets resurrected and does well after that. It's already hard enough for any new TCG to take off, so likely impossible for a MetaZoo re-run given the level of bitterness and hate against the game.
Wondering what will happen with MetaTwo ... 🙄
Honestly, you can tell Rudy is truly saddened by this. :(
No penis?! This is an outrage!
Honestly it's sad to see it come to this. I couldn't afford to support the product, but I enjoyed the unboxing videos. The artwork looked really fun!
20hrs/ week to hire someone for yourself isn’t too much. Thinking about capital is weak in my opinion without having employees.
Long time Rudy subscriber. All love. You do you.
I understand the frustation about MZ let Rudy down just after the family project,i feel you Rudy i'm sorry for the all situation
Also this location is amazing
Thanks Rudy!
Welcome to Rudy's Only Crayons
Awesome video Rudy
damn Rudy, is that a 50.Cal in the background? :D
