    This is the evolution of BJJ, you can either try and learn it or be left behind. Many parallels to MMA and how it has evolved, some Fighters are left in the dust others evolve with the sport.

      Its because jiu-jitsu it's a young sport with a ruleset with maby options. So he's actually taking form. You can win with old techniques(refined by the time), but you just can win with then if you know how to defend the new techniques or systems.

    • @augustoloa4315

    I don't think I've ever seen anyone as good at rolling for leg locks as Garry Tonon. I think the lack of leg locks in most sport Jiu Jitsu Tournaments has held the sport back. Just my opinion.

    • @PuBearsticks
      @PuBearsticks 6 лет назад +10

      itheuser First What do you mean Bjj players are the only ones who use them? Leg locks are MUCH more prominent in both Catch wrestling and Sambo. Aside from that leg locks are frowned upon by many bjj schools and many tournaments dont even allow leg lock positions much less an actual attempt at a leg lock.

    • @PuBearsticks
      @PuBearsticks 6 лет назад

      itheuser First argue with Ricky Lundell www.bjjee.com/interview/pedro-sauer-black-belt-ricky-lundell-jiu-jitsu-players-are-white-belts-at-leglocks/

    • @PuBearsticks
      @PuBearsticks 6 лет назад +2

      itheuser First In response to position before submission I agree with you and the death squad has proven 50/50 position can be as controlling as anything else. On top of that I've had two shoulder surgeries and will likely never fully recover because of a Kimura. EVERY joint is easy to pop with the proper alavanca. I never said young or new students should focus on leg locks just that I believe they should be incorporated more into the overall game.

    • @Mizernyi

      In sambo and catch as catch can wrestling leg logs are also really used a lot, not only BJJ players...

    i avoided training leglocks for a long time but in the last 6 months or so i have learned them, it started when i watched a catch wrestler knee bar an opponent and literally snap his leg, it occurred to me that if i ever got into a street situation it might be a useful thing to know i now know that should i find myself in the right position and i will endevour to make it the right position the guy is going to get a broken leg very quickly, unless you train leg locks your only half a fighter

If you have a normal job this could literally ruin your ability to provide for yourself/ family. The rest of the grappling world will eventually catch up though and it will lose its advantage.. Not being able to use an arm is much easier to live with than never being able to walk again. I've worked with carpenters who have limited use of one hand, but never one in a wheelchair. I can pour concrete with one arm, but not in a wheelchair. Walking is more important than having the use of both arms.

    Heel hooks are lethal and too dangerous for sport. As Jui Jitsu practitioners we should be proficient in them for self-defense. But in the dojo for live sparring or sport.. I do not agree. Training and sport are not worth serious knee injuries..

    • @bena3341
      @bena3341 6 лет назад

      Tyrone Lacy watch the John Danaher episode of Joe Rogan. He has a very compelling argument as to why leg locks are in no way more dangerous than an arm lock.

    • @davyvanderschoot6406
      @davyvanderschoot6406 6 лет назад +1

      I'd take the Firas Zahabi approach to leg locks in the dojo, work for the position but don't put any pressure on when you get the heel hook ready. Then proceed to roll as if you lost the lock. This way you keep the knees safe still, get your leg lock practice and get ready for contingencies when trying to play the leg lock game in high level competition or self defence.

      I think only the BJJ community would find it interesting...but for the average fan...I think it would put them to sleep. The legs are half the body...crazy that so many guys at your average McDojo never learn to leg lock or knee bar...and when you catch it in the middle of the match....it's entertaining. But going right to butt scoot position and sitting there playing footsies with the other guy for an entire match is extremely boring to watch. Is it high level shit...of course it is...is it boring to watch...it surely can be.
