This was the final of the show for Su-Metal's 16th birthday - imagine getting crucified by your friends on stage and thousands chanting "Death! Death! Death!" over and over… :D
For the stage performance: long story short - Suzuka Nakamoto sacrifices her life as an idol and is resurrected as Metal Goddess "Su-Metal". Hence the crucifixion and the worshipping ;) This special performance took only place five times so far.
The band members for this show are: Mikio Fujioka and Leda Cygnus on the guitars, BOH on the bass guitar and Aoyama Hideki on the drums. The girls were 16 (Su-Metal) and 14 (Yuimetal, Moametal) at that time.
Normally they performed that song at the beginning. "Death" and the Japanese "desu" sound almost the same (the "u" is silent), the latter one means "I am" or "We are" in this context - "Su-Metal desu" means "I am Su-Metal" etc. - so in a way it was a way to introduce themselves to the audience.
You beat me to it! ...and did a little better job than I would have, the only other take away I got from the performance was su was resurrected by the power of metal..and the crowd.

The only thing I would add for clarification is that the word "idol" is the Japanese version of a "pop princess" here in the U.S., like a Britney Spears.

@@mr.osclasses5054 You folks can call the idol part whatever you want. But if I read everything/see about this show, I don't think it is trying to say: "sacrifices her life as an idol".
It's interesting how someone says it's "her idol life" a couple of times and then people start to repeat it.
But just seems to me it's just: "old enough to transition into her new phase in life" (depicted by a rebirth just as in some manga). Her new form is metal goddess, this is true. :-)
I think some of you are reading into it that this was Suzuka's first show after leaving Sakura Gakuin, but I think that was Legend D or Legend Z (of the Legend IDZ series).
I don't think there's any religious meaning to this. BABYMETAL always has lots of lore stuff going on, and this time it was abut Su being reborn as the Metal Goddess at her 16th birthday. The whole Christian symbolism is not to be taken seriously, the Japanese have a habit of picking various things from different religions at will. Some have little Buddha statues in their homes, pray at Shinto shrines regularly and wear white dresses at their Christian weddings.
The crosses are (ab)used a lot in Metal, and I think that's the main reason why they chose them (well, and they just have a convenient shape for the representation of death and rebirth cycles). I think the main intention is to take the clashing of Metal and cuteness to the max. That's all there is to it.
I read somwhere that one way to screw with a Japanese person is to ask them to describe the difference between Shinto and Buddhism.
That and the Virgin Mary is a reference to Metallica injustice for all I think? So it goes with the motif.

@@geiseric222 The crumbling statue is similar to the 'Lady Liberty' stature that Metallica used in their tour in 1989 supporting their Album "And Justice For All".
That and the riff at the beginning is pulled straight from Metallica's "One" song definitely showed the homage being paid to Metallica in this performance.

In this case, from Su's beginnings as an "Idol", to the leader of a Metal group.
The crumbling statue is almost certainly a reference to the "And Justice For All" Metallica concert, which had a statue of Justice break apart.
BABYMETAL are huge Metallica fans.
For a little more context, this is a translation of the opening narration:

I'm sure several have already mentioned what I'm about to say, but here's some answers to your questions, plus some fun facts as well:
Babymetal was originally a sub-unit of Sakura Gakuin, a J-Pop idol group themed around school life and after school clubs for girls between 10 and 15 years of age. Producer Key Kobayashi, also known as Kobametal, was a heavy metal fan and formed Babymetal as a passion project within Sakura Gakuin. Babymetal became its official after school Heavy Music Club centering around Su's vocals, and eventually Moa and Yui were brought in to support Su. After Su turned 15, she "graduated" from Sakura Gakuin and left. However, she continued with Babymetal as it was picking up traction and success. After Moa and Yui "graduated" from Sakura Gakuin, Kobametal was able to separate Babymetal away from Sakura Gakuin and make it it's own entity.
This particular show was in celebration of Su's 16th birthday. The song "Babymetal Death" was usually used as an introduction. The word "desu" (です) in Japanese is almost equivalent to the "be" verb in English. So it can mean "I am", "he is", "she is", "they are", "we are", etc. So during this song, they say "Su-metal desu, Yuimetal desu, Moametal desu, Babymetal desu." This translates to "I am Su-metal, I am Yuimetal, I am Moametal, We are Babymetal." Also, the word "desu" is somewhat of a homophone for the English word "death". So in Japanese, "desu," spelled as "デス," can mean "death". As you can see, Japanese likes wordplay. Fun facts, the opening guitar riffs of this song are an homage to Metallica's song, "One," and the collapse of the Mother Mary statue is another Metallica tribute to their Lady Justice statue. The neck brace that you see Moa and Yui wrap around Su is also a tribute to the Japanese band X Japan. The drummer apparently was headbanging so much, that he broke his neck and began wearing a neck brace during concerts. X Japan and Metallica I think are Kobametals favorite metal bands, so you will see a lot of Easter eggs relating to them, as well as other bands, within Babymetal's discography and performances.
As for the crucifixion and religious elements: Sumetal being crucified is symbolic of her leaving her idol roots (Sakura Gakuin and her previous group Karen's Girls) and being "reborn" as a metal goddess. It doesn't have anything to do with Christianity. In general, Japanese people are fairly irreligious. Their culture is steeped in traditions founded in Buddhism and Shintoism, but these religions are rarely ever practiced by the general public. Like I said, it's just traditions that have been ingrained in the culture over time, serving no real religious meaning to the general population. Even when something like Christianity is introduced, as you can see from this video, elements of the religion are used without any real religious meaning. In this particular performance, the Christian imagery is just used for the theatrics.
I just want to add to this perfect essay: Babymetal became an independent act in 2013 when Su graduated from SG. While Yui and Moa were still in SG, Babymetal was an "extra curricular activity"
Also, those aren't pentagrams, too many points, lol. I think they are 8 trigrams which is a Japanese symbol often mistaken for pentagrams.
Don't agree that Japanese are generally irreligious. Buddhism and Shintoism aren't practiced in the sense of going to church every Sunday but practiced in daily life. Japanese social cultural behaviour, these religions are totally infused into the Japanese life. Fox gods and fox shrines are all over Japan. So perfectly natural that babymetal should use such symbolism. Christianity has more of a curiosity value to most Japanese. So they used such symbolism because that what they pick up from metal bands. IE black sabbath etc.
@@kaieasthammer8243 That is why I stated that Japanese culture is steeped in Buddhist and Shintoist traditions. There are aspects of both religions that are "practiced" in the daily life of Japanese people, that I completely agree with; it's what makes Japanese culture fairly interesting and unique. However, you will be hard pressed to find a Japanese person actually claim that they are Buddhist or Shintoist. Just because you involve yourself with elements of a particular religion doesn't necessarily mean that you believe or follow said religion. It just becomes a culmination of tradition initially founded upon religious ideas of the past. That is why I said that Japan is fairly irreligious. It's also similar to how so many people celebrate Christmas in what is generally viewed as a Christian holiday to celebrate the birth of Christ. Many people celebrate Christmas as a tradition, but the original meaning and intent is not particularly celebrated among the majority. It would be hard to actually come across someone who genuinely celebrates the birth of Christ during Christmas outside of someone who is a Christian. The idea of Christmas has been ingrained into many cultures now, but it is currently "practiced" differently and serves another purpose as well. I think when it comes down to it, we both share the same opinion. We are just expressing ours words differently.
Just a FYI, Chistianity has been practiced in Japan since the 1600's. It was brought to Japan by the Portuguese and until the Shogun isolated Japan it had many followers. With isolation Christianity was banned as foreign , and it went underground. There are a few Christians in Japan. Christmas is a major holiday has no religious meaning.
The narration in the beginning explained it all. This was a concert for Su's 16th birthday. Su started her career as an Idol singer, and in this performance she had to die to be reborn as a Metal Goddess. And Babymetal transition from an Idol Band to Metal.
I have a number of Japanese friends and none see the religious aspects of this, and I'm not sure any was intended. Rebirth though is a common theme in Japanese tales stemming from Buddhism and their belief in reincarnation.
The statue is an homage to Metallica's Goddess they used to tour with, and like it was destroyed at the end of the show. Unlike it, this one had Asian features. Quite the show.
Babymetal Death used to be, in a shorter, less theatrical version, the song that opened the concert. It is a play on words, the Japanese verb "desu" means to be. The "u" on the end is not pronounced and said "des". So "Babymetal des"; "We Are Babymetal". The English word "death" is pronounced the same way by Japanese, and thus the wordplay. Babymetal Death, We Are Babymetal.
Metallica's statue was specifically Lady Justice. I'd say, nonetheless, that you're _justified_ in referring to her as a goddess, as she is based on the goddess Iustitia. :)

This concert Legend 1997 (Dec 21, 2013) coincide with Su Metal's birthday on Dec 20. The same year both BabyMetal became independent from idol group Sakura Gakuin and Su Metal graduated in March. So this crucifixion is symbolizing the end of Su Metal's life as an idol to become a full time Metal Queen. The breaking and collapse statue is an homage to Metallica "And Justice For All" live concert, where the Lady of Justice statue breaks, just like the Goddess statue breaks at the end of this performance., also shows the end of her idol life/persona.

This performance was for Su's 16th birthday, so they thought they may as well celebrate in style and crucify her. Isn't that how all 16yr old girls celebrate their birthday?
Su has now been crucified on stage 4 times (I think).
I think the neck protection plays a big role as its related to headbanger and now she died as a normal girl able to rock out in the afterlife.

This is Su metal being crucified and reborn as a metal god. It’s their transition from a pop group to a metal one. All three have been at some time crucified at some time. The neck brace is a reference to the Japanese metal group X Japan. Whose drummer hurt his neck head banging and had to wear a brace for future performances

The neck brace is in reference to the "Headbanger" official video where neck brace attaches itself to Su, then shoots up to the cross.
I have not seen it mentioned..... this song is normally used as a show opener. On two occasions it has been used later in the show (actually three, but the third involved the rebirth of Babymetal as a whole and predates this... and no crosses where involved). On both of those occasions, Su was crucified (here and Legend S). Each of those shows represents a special year in her life, her 16th birthday and her 20th birthday (20 y/o in Japan is the age of accension, you become an adult). On her 20th birthday, not only was Su crucified, but she exploded into flame, only to be reborn as the Messiah of Light to lead the Golden Generation out of darkness (there is lore to everything Babymetal), going from Babymetal Death to an absolutely beautiful performance of The One, singing in the clouds surrounded by starlight. :) Setting that aside, the song is simply the band introducing themselves. "Su-Metal Desu" = I am Su Metal, "Yuimetal Desu" = I am Yui Metal, "Moametal Desu" = I am Moametal, "Babymetal Desu" = "We are Babymetal". The "u" in Desu is usually silent so when pronunced in Japanese, it sounds very much like our word "Death", hence the play on words creating the song name and the "Death" chants from the audience. I'll leave the religious symbolism to others, only to suggest it's not what it appears to be to Western eyes. The Megitsune video was filmed in a Shinto Shrine. The song release event for the song involved a blessing from a Shinto priest. You will find religious symbolism all over Babymetal imagry, from crosses to pentagrams to the Star of David to Buddha to Hindu and everything inbetween. It has no more true meaning than their outfits do. It's just theater and being Japanese, they don't have the same social restrictions of what imagery is being used that we in the West would have, because it does not have the same meanings.
I went to a Black Sabbath concert once. There was protestors outside who said that there would be a ceremony where Sabbath would ask the audience to give their souls to the devil. Perhaps the protestors had something like this in mind. Anyway, Quiet Riot opened the show, then a curtain was drawn across the stage.
When the curtain opened the stage set looked like Stonehenge. There was about 2 feet of smoke at the bottom of the stage. Suddenly, a small person in a devil suit popped up. While the audience completely freaked out, the "devil" growled and ran around the stage. Finally, the band came on and the show started.
In the 80's you could get a really great seat at a concert for 12-16 bucks, but back then groups made money from album sales so the price for concert seats covered the cost of the show. Nowadays, because the script has flipped, groups make most of their money from concerts. This is why pop stars have back up dancers and they lip synch to their songs-it's all about the show.
The girls in Babymetal are phenomenal atheletes. They dance but also sing (not lip synch). I have seen videos where the girls are performing with back up dancers and the dancers are breathing hard and the girls are just doing their thing, even though they matched the dancers step for step and are singing.
I dont think metal bands used satanisms or any kind of symbols for religious purposes. It's just gimmicks. It's common I guess in metal genres.
@@adamazri928 The only avowed satantist is Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, but zep quit before metal bands started doing gimmicks, like the one I noted. Ozzy and Dio had dragons on stage. Blue Oyster Cult had a Godzilla. RUSH had a pair of giant bunnies. Pink Floyd had the pigs and kept them into the 21st century.
Because groups now make most of their money from shows, the show is the thing. Babymetal is the most unique group there is. It is a combination of genres. To be honest, I haven't seen any contemporary groups, except Nightwish. The shows that Babymetal and Nightwish put on make you say:"Wow!! That was an experience."

This is basically BABYMETAL's answer to all the people who were saying they suck, they're a gimmick, they're not really metal. Tell me, how many metal groups would have the stones to crucify their lead singer for his/her 16th birthday in front of 8K+ fans and have him/her resurrected into a god/goddess of metal?! I had NEVER seen something like this before. Yes, you get all these bands who do crazy things or have pentagrams on their album cover and all this, but none would do what BABYMETAL did here (they've done it a few times, but usually only on special occasions, with the last being the Legend S - XX Baptism show in 2017 for Su's 20th birthday in her hometown of Hiroshima.

Of course nobodu gets cricified at 16...all the metal band are a bit older. People were harsh to me saying thatsnot a metal band.... Its like spice girls met the devil. Thats really cool but do is it worth a song... tjat they dont sing at all... I don't understand it... Somebody explain it to me... Maybe im to old for this

I can't tell if you're a fan saying people were harsh to you for liking them, or if you're on the fence and want an explanation as to why you should like it? Your wording wasn't entirely clear to me.
The fact is that metal is the instrumentation, not necessarily the lyrics. You can still be metal and have a different sound. No one batted an eye when Metallica did "Unforgiven" and other bands did their own ballads, or have songs with hooks and catchy lyrics. There are all these sub-genres of metal that only have one thing in common, heavier instruments. If BABYMETAL has that, then why is it different? Just because they are girls that wear dresses and dance? Stop worrying about what they look like or not being able to understand the words and just enjoy the sound. They make music that makes people happy, that's what matters. If the difference between being a metal fan or not is I have to feel like a giant bag of shit all the time because the lyrics are a downer, then I'm not a metal fan. I like the music, I like the beat, I like the showmanship.
If you're asking if you're too old for this, then you are most definitely too old to be giving a shit about other people's opinions on what YOU like for music. If they actually give you crap for it, that's on them for being closed-minded and acting like children.
Enjoy yourself. Have fun with the music. As Su-metal would say, "Don't think. FEEL!" We'd be happy to have you as part of "The One"...screw the haters.
@@maiadion557 I really don't get the Spice Girls comparison. It seems very off base to me, except them being female, singing and dancing. It's not like BabyMetal carries sexual overtones in their songs or performance, and they aren't wearing really risque outfits during any of that.

One of the best, calmest and most accepting of reactions I've seen to this gem. Really, I see so many young guys freak out, not understanding what symbolism is (they wouldn't bat an eyelid if it had been huge Japanese Shinto religious symbols on stage) and not even being able to comprehend that there might be more meaning in something they think they understand, but don't. There's already lots of comments explaining it (and it is good to get an explanation) so I won't add to them. Superb reaction - again! School must have been funny the following week...Su's friend: "We had a pyjama party for my 16th." Other friend: "That's nothing. Me and my friends all went to McDonald's and then the cinema for my 16th." Both friends: "Yeah, Su, beat that! So, what did you do?" Su just smiles.
Not that surprising really, I assume you saw reactions by mostly westerners and their views on religion being heavily influenced by Christianity (whether practicing or not) being the dominant religion in those parts.
Not everybody think that people in different part of the world may have different views on symbols, religion, etc.
BABYMETAL use the crucifixion as a transformation machine. This concert was to celebrate SU-METAL's 16th birthday. Hence, the 1997, her birth year. In the BABYMETAL lore, she is 'sacrificed' as a young girl and resurrected as a "Metal goddess", or "adult rock star", if you will. (It's all tongue-in-cheek, of course. :-))

Babymetal Death is the first song of the first album, and serves as the introduction of the band. It's a wordplay on the Japanese pronunciation of the English word Death as Japanese it mostly made up of pairs of syllables.
Death is pronounced 'Des(u)', and Desu is a structural component in the Japanese language that serves to solidify what something 'is' (placed at the end of a sentence). In this sense it's 'This is/We are BabyMetal'. The lyrical content is the same - they're introducing the female trio: SuMetal, YuiMetal, and MoaMetal.
The rough summary of the intro is a tale of an ancient legend that spawns the phenomenon Babymetal.
Simple to sing along to, and packed with energy - one of my many favorites.
What I love about this is that the idea of gods dying and being reborn as a new version of themselves is found in so many mythologies and religions around the world, but it makes perfect sense to use Christian symbolism here because the metal scene is kind of infamous for using (and abusing) this kind of religious iconography.

Many girls get a big party when they turn 16, but not many get crucified on stage to be reborn as a metal goddess. Only about 1% of Japan is Christian, so they only know the symbology from movies and television, but not the meaning behind it. Even Satanic imagery is just part of heavy metal to them, and they are unaware of any religious significance. Think of it more as metal symbolism without any religious intent. Just putting on a very memorable show!

It’s obvious why they choose the crucifiction symbolism they knew exactly what they were doing here.
It doesn’t matter what you believe or not but the symbol and the act still stirs strong emotions and feelings of darkness.
To me Babymetal Death is actually about two things, the death of metal as it was (because death is also referred to as renewal or rebirth because it’s depiction of the old dying) as in metal before Babymetal and their interpretation was born.
Secondly ofcourse the praise of what made all this possible the singer Su-metal that is worshipped for bringing this to fruition by shedding her old self Suzuka Nakamoto to become the chosen one Su-metal.
It’s something like this and the Japanese very damn well knew this imagery was gonna bump some heads, the shock value is real that’s why I love it so much.
The show is out of this world, this would have been the best live performance to have been a part of in my book.

You both looked truly shocked when the crucifixion sequence began. Considering the cuteness of the girls and them being 16 and 14, if you are unfamiliar with them it can be shocking as the imagery is satanic. BABYMETAL have a whole backstory about them and and their big stage shows tend to have a theme. Other here have explained the theme so I won't repeat it.

I'm only going to say, that everything they do means something. There is also a translation of the opening animation in the video description, which gives some meaning...and it is also important to know that the performance took place a couple days before Christmas, which was Suzuka's 16th birthday as well as the Winter Solstice.
Something I didn't realize until I started learning Japanese. The girls introducing themselves is a bit of a pun. "Su Metal Death" is actually "Su Metal desu" (the u is silent), which is "I'm Su Metal", but it sounds like Death.so they lean into it.
Could you imagine telling your granddaughter, that for her 16th birthday, she will be crucified by her 2 best friends, while 5k people jump up and down shouting death. I bet team Babymetal had a great time telling Su's parents that :)
The ascension of The Queen... Su metal is call Queen, and the mv is about ascension of The Queen at the throne.

Anywho, this particular song was their intro music during the trio years, but I think this particular show used it as a climax. It's since been replaced by In The Name Of after they became a duo.
For future videos, I'd recommend their first, Doki Doki Morning when they were really babies.
Any semblance to Christian symbolism is either deliberate or coincidence because in Japan Christianity is not a commonly practised religion.
Most metal bands used them for gimmicks and not for religious purposes. I thought people are already get used to it. Lol

There´s really no religious meaning here. In fact, in Japan you can find christian church, even ortodox, anything you look for and really, christianity is really a minority in Japan. Almost all people who follow a religion in Japan are buddhist, shinto or even both at the same time. But they celebrate christmas just as an opportunity to buy decorations, put a lot of lights and eat fried chicken (yes, they believe that: fried chicken is a christian tradition... courtesy of KFC). Also celebrate Valentin´s day but... again for comercial issues.
There´s a deity or saint, i don´t remember well who carries a cross and is related with artists, but not remember now. Anyway japanese culture is really respectful with other beliefs so really, no bad intention here. Anyway, Babymetal have a "deity", the fox god. And this aren´t an invention. The fox god or "kitsune" is a magical fox who guards the shrines of Inari. You can find stone statues of foxes at the entrance of any Inari shrine (and there´s a lot of them). Just like this

Suzuka wa at this time with the two other girls in the idol group "Sakura Gakuin", an idol program who mimics an all-girl school

In this group, when a girl reach 16 years and finish secondary education (the real one) is "retired". They do a graduation and the girl left the group. Suzuka must left Sakura Gakuin, and change the contract with AMUSE. She is no longer an idol, now she works as a singer (and dancer, model, etc...) with the same company but in a music group, like "Perfume" who is from the same agency.
The producers just copy the imaginary of other "black metal" groups, and this is all.

Okay. Gotta repeat this, because it needs to be expressed. Even though the song is called "Babymetal DEATH", they actually are not saying the word "death". In the Japanese language, there really isn't the -th sound. So the closest word they have to the phonetic sounding of "death" is the word "desu" (silent u), which can mean "I am". So all they are doing, which you pointed out, lyrically, is spelling the name of the band, and saying who they are. "Su-metal desu" (I am Su-Metal), "Yui-Metal desu" (I am Yui-Metal), "Moa-Metal desu" (I am Moa-Metal), Babymetal desu (We are BabyMetal). This song is nothing but a simple play on words, and we in the western/English-speaking world fell for it. On top of that, on their first world tour, this was their opening song, so anyone that thought that this band wasn't a metal band or anything were proven wrong with the first song in their set.
With that said, this song is also a bit of a tribute song as well. If you go back to the reaction you lovely ladies did to One, by Metallica, you'll notice that the heavy riff in the middle of that song (Darkness, Imprisoning me, all I can see, absolute horror, etc.) is the same riff they used to start here. So they are paying tribute to Metallica here (it's the girls and their producer's favorite band). Additionally, the neckbrace is a tribute to the drummer of a band in Japan called X-Japan. The drummer would headbang so hard while playing that he nearly broke his neck, so after he injured himself, he had to wear a neckbrace while playing. Babymetal took that concept and ran with it, hence the neckbrace you see here, as well as in the music video they made for their song Headbanger. And finally, at the end, you see the head of the statue falling. 2 things here: first, is that at this show, their opening song was Ave Maria. I'm not sure why they chose that song, outside of it being Su-Metal's 16th birthday, so she could do whatever she wanted, but that's what they chose. So it coincidentally looks like the statue of Mary. Second, with the head falling off.. during Metallica's "...And Justice for All" tour (for the same album that One came out on), they had a statue of Lady Justice on stage (they named her "Doris"). At the end of their show, Doris' head would fall off. (side note: at that time, a lot of Metallica's songs were about the injustices of the world, so it had an introspective meaning). Babymetal paid tribute to that here, with the statue's head falling off here. So all in all, a 16th birthday celebration, and 2 tributes, all in one song.

So, instead of saying anything about the song (people have already explained it) I'd like to say: yeeeeessss Jesus Christ Superstar was amazing! Funnily enough we watched it every year at school when I was a kid. Still one of the best ways to tell that story in my opinion.

Basically, in 1997, a child was born that was destined to begin the Metal Resistance and unite the world through music. She received the blessing of The Fox God and on the night of her 16th birthday, the child died so that she could be "reborn as a goddess." That is why Su is referred to as Our Goddess. Instead of a crown, she received the corset (neck brace) as a symbol of her Metal Goddess status. Kobametal has said that the Christian imagery is coincidental. Honestly, I don't believe him. I also don't care. It made for a HELL of a show.
*Mosh'sh is a term of art in #BABYMETAL fandom, not a typo. It is short for Moshushu. Which - according to the girls & management - means a safe, yet enjoyable, mosh. They want the audience to mosh with gentleness and joy in mind.

This was the same concert as Gimme Chocolate and Headbanger. Nobody is diverse like Babymetal. I see you reacted to Metallica 'One'. That is the guitar riff in the beginning of the song. It's an homage to Metallica. So is the statue crumbling at the end.

So awesome to see that getting older does not mean you have to change your musical preferences. I'm 53 and have been/will be a metal head forever. You now have a new subscriber :) By the way, this song is also sort of a tribute to Metallica. Their band manager Kobametal is a long time fan of them. The beginning of the song is a sampling of Metallica's One song (Darkness, imprisoning me, all that I've seen, absolute horror,...). The statue is also a reference to Metallica's And Justice for All tour in the 80's where they had a statue of the justice lady (sorry, not sure what she's called, English is not my first language) come apart during their show.
Road of Resistance really wasn't the best start. Glad you kept going and now like Babymetal :) Megitsune would have been a great first video. Incredible energy and in my opinion the best representation of what Babymetal is. You should check it out :D

The title is basically a play on words, using "desu" ("I am/We are") as a replacement for "Death." The Japanese love word play. BTW, the Mary statue is random AF, a musical homage; no real Christian significance. This is all part of the Babymetal "lore." thing.

Ghost is awesome. They're not shredding, headbanging metal like most of what our grannies listen to, but their imagery and stage show are amazing, and the music is still great. They're hated on for being cliche or not heavy enough, and it's trendy to hate on em.
