"Karate" premiered at Yokohama Arena on December 12, 2015. Directed by Daisuke Ninomiya, the music video for "Karate" was released on 18 March 2016. Moa Metal explained that the lyrics are about never giving up and always moving forward, no matter what difficulties need to be endured. Furthermore, Yui Metal described how the dance moves were made to help express the message of the song, as most of the lyrics were in Japanese. Moa Metal expressed that "Karate" is her favorite song in the 2nd album, explaining how "karate has a courtesy: "Start with a bow and end with a bow." This is something important we value in our lives, because we never forget courtesy and a feeling of gratitude wherever we go." Su Metal described the white figures in the video as representing their former selves, expressing the desire to break down barriers by fighting themselves to move forward. Moa Metal added that "karate is obviously a form of martial arts that originated from Japan, so it’s something that she’s very proud of that they are now representing this culture that came from Japan through their music, and it’s a way for more people outside of Japan also to learn what karate is all about."

I loved your Rammstein video the other day, and really consider Rammstein and Babymetal flip sides of the same coin. They are both very theatrical and over the top. If you do something, do it excess attitude. Completely different aesthtics in presentation. No Rain No Rainbow - Legend S is a good song to show a different side of them, so is Shanti Shanti Shanti
I just started watching these videos. And to hear you two ladies mention learning languages really hit me. The day we stop learning, is the day we stop growing. Great content.Rock on!
Love your honesty rockin grannies! Babymetal is my favorite kawaii metal band. Another hard rockin metal band from Japan is Lovebites. They sing English but very heavy. Great girl power. Give them a check. Keep up the great work. 😉
Another great reaction, ladies! Babymetal's choreographer has worked with them from the start and was due to have a slightly more relaxing time this year when she was going to have a break from them and instead organise the opening ceremony for the Tokyo Olympics. Obviously, that got cancelled. For this song, she asked the girls to watch some old martial arts movies to get inspiration for some moves, which is why Moa catches the fly like Mr Miyagi does in the original Karate Kid - though, being a much sweeter person than Mr Miyagi, she then lets the fly go! They practice very, very hard to get their choreography exactly on point (Su has run fell pelt on a treadmill and jumped off to sing a verse as part of her breath control practice, or so the legends say!) and their producer likes to throw glitches into the rehearsals (cutting mikes, earpieces, lighting or music and expecting them to carry on regardless. Poor Yui fell off a gantry one night and couldn't finish the song but came back on for the next song - which was the finale to the show and which Moa managed to do with tears in her eyes after spraining her ankle. Tough girls who work extremely hard. If you love the band there's a couple of songs where they all get to play solos before the girls join in and the best, IMHO, is the best Metal song ever about playing Hide and Seek. This version comes with English subtitles too and is a superb Metal song with an incredible dance routine too - ruclips.net/video/ng8U_j0gpLI/видео.html
SWWEEETTT more BABYMETAL. Dusk till dawn! GJ! Are also great! 3:13 choreography? Thats no Brittney Spears! BabyMetal actually sings and dances at the same time and you can tell they are well practiced and its real! Loved them in concert!

Babymetal one of my first live concerts at my first Rock am Ring in 2018. They do the same choreography live and even though I didn't know them I was amazed by them. I would definitely watch them live again
Another great, wholesome, hearth melting video. Awesome! I think you would really enjoy one their newer songs, it´s called "Shanti Shanti Shanti" , you´ll love it.
Agree 100% on your captions comment. At least for a first time reaction/viewing, I prefer to watch the video, and, if I’m interested, check out the lyrics afterward. I got a kick out of “....I don’t want to watch and read.” 😆 Totally agree also with you both in that Babymetal wants everything to be just right in their performances. More out of respect for their fans first, then for themselves, it seems to me. It appears too many artists reverse that and think of their audience second. Another fun reaction, and look forward to more! 👍
Remember, Yui and Moa were 10 when they joined Babymetal (Su was 12). Here is a video of some clips of them growing up (music by ONE OK ROCK). ruclips.net/video/tUKhl9WxK80/видео.html
I don't care if you're a Babymetal fan or not, but you have to admit that their singer is absolutely amazing! I saw them live and even though I think that the Japanese and Korean music machineries are hardcore, it paid off for her. She's great!
my first impression of babymetal was pretty much the same. i first saw Gimmi chocolate and thought: WTF japan.. then karate is played randomly on my spotify and im thinking: hey this is pretty dope, what band is this, BABYMETAL?!? huh.. ok I'll give them a proter try and here i am,
When you're heart is filled with fear, stand tall and fight away all of your tears. Dedicated, I'm standing my grown, with my fist I will fight. Let my spirit burn bright. Feel the strength from inside of my heart. I can't let myself down when I'm holding my head up even now. Run with me. Though your heart is filled with fear, stand tall and fight away all of your fears.
Thanks for the reaction, this is my favorite mv hands down. This band is so diverse that it's hard to recommend what to watch next. If you want to appreciate them for starting at 11 and 12 years old back in 2010 then watch Doki Doki Morning (their 1st pro video) along with Megitsune (huge fan favorite). If you want to see more of Su-metal's vocals then No Rain, No Rainbow and The One (dedicated to the fans). If you want to see more of the band the Rondo of Nightmare. You pretty much can't go wrong with any choice because they are just that good. Akatsuki, Distortion, Pa Pa Ya, Shanti Shanti Shanti, Ijime dame zettai (anti-bullying song). They have sooo much to choose from. They have 3 full albums released and all are excellent. By the way, Babymetal is the first asian band in history to hit Billboards Top 200 Albums chart at number 1.
Nice reaction - and your first thoughts were right, the figures in white were the girls, as revealed when the masks shattered at the end (look for the reflections in their eyes). They were conjuring up their own inner demons to fight against - the song is about fighting on despite the hard knocks, getting up when you've been knocked down and helping each other through hard times. They used karate to illustrate the message as it is a Japanese martial art and it has no backward moves, so it represents their culture as well as being about always moving forward.
Hey, just discovered your channel, loving your content! I thought I'd throw my hat into the ring and recommend a Swedish Metal band called 'Sabaton'. Don't you worry, they do speak English usually in their songs, so you'll know what they're saying with these guys. lol They are very enthusiastic about history and their ambitions is to preserve it through metal! I suggest 'Primo Victoria', 'Ghost Devision', or 'Great War', those are some of their greatest hits. :D
Karate is probably my favorite song. For me, it's a turning point song, specifically for Su-Metal. To my ears anyway, this song was the first song where her voice had finished deepening into that of a more womanly voice instead of a girls, and it gave her a WHOLE new range
What you said about seeing this video first is so true. Frankly it annoys when someone recommends Gimme Chocolate first to someone who has never seen Babymetal before. I never recommend Gimme Chocolate first, especially to devoted metal fans, because I think they might get the impression that Babymetal is a bit of a joke or just a gimmick band, and might not give Babymetal their deserved due. Ultimately, Gimme Chocolate doesn't accurately convey what Babymetal is all about, especially now in 2020. Gimme Chocolate is from their first album in 2014 and is six years old at this point, so it's not even close to the best representation of the band as it is now. Because Gimme Chocolate is the most viewed Babymetal clip it seems to be the go-to clip for RUclips reactors who didn't have a specific Babymetal clip recommended to them, but who wanted to react to Babymetal because they heard some buzz about them. Unfortunately, when this happens, a lot of them don't get an accurate picture of the band. I just watched a reaction video a few days ago where a metalhead watched Gimme Chocolate as his first Babymetal experience, and then went on to say in his reaction that he didn't need to watch anymore of their clips - he basically said they were repetitive, boy-band music that is clearly designed for fans of anime and manga. He obviously thought they were a joke. Clearly a lot of his talking points were provably false, but the most annoying thing was his assumption that he had them nailed down with just one video reaction. Anyway, that's exactly why I would recommend something like "Headbangeeeeer!!" or "Babymetal Death" from their Legend 1997 show first. To conclude, the truth of the matter is Babymetal at this point in time has three solid albums in a unique a sub-genre of metal they they themselves created, and their latest album is one of the best albums of the year in my opinion. It's nice to see that you stuck with them and watched enough of their videos to give them a fair assessment. Well done grannies. :)
@@JL-sm6cg I'm not sure what you're trying to say by making this comment, as it could be interpreted several ways. If you're saying that this is their "definitive" song, I disagree. Maybe that was true in 2014, but it's not true now. If you're saying that it's their "best" song, then I disagree with that too - personally, I don't even rank Gimme Chocolate in their top 10. But if you're just saying that it's their most "known" song though, then yes, that is true. And in any case, it doesn't change the truth of what I said in my original comment that Gimme Chocolate is not the best choice to introduce people to the band. Because Rush is not divisive like Babymetal is, so the comparison isn't really accurate in a "1 to 1" sort of way in any case.
I think Gimme Chocolate is the most fun to watch people react to for the first time. Which is what I'm mainly here for. This makes a strong second video to watch thoigh.
That fly story reminds me of my sister in law. Once we were at the dinner table, talking about whatever, a fly started to buzz around, it landed in front of her and with a fluent motion calmly grabbed my brother's phone and smashed it. We were all taken back, but she just continued the conversation, like it didn't happen.
I'd like to hear an English translation of their songs If I ever have a little daughter I'm gonna start her off with Babymetal They are awesome and cute Rock on
I'd like to propose something a bit more extreme, but beautiful in its own way: Dimmu Borgir - Gateways Please, watch the live concert called "DIMMU BORGIR - Gateways (LIVE - FORCES OF THE NORTHERN NIGHT)". I think you will be amazed by the merging of a classical symphonic orchestra, a live choir and some really harsh vocals with top-notch musicianship. The genre is called Symphonic Black Metal.
Well, it took you a while to appreciate Babymetal, and likewise, it took me a while to appreciate your reactions on their music. But I definitely do now. Subscribed.
They do put 100 percent in to every song this song gives me chills every time what's great about them is there songs have at least some have such a positive message and they definitely give u what u pay for and more watching there live videos and music videos it's great to see a group that sounds good in both u don't get that from very many any way love your videos and welcome to the baby metal universe
The 3 people in the white ghost outfits. Are each one of the girls Su Moa and Yui. This song was to release the in demons we all have inside. BABYMETAL did it perfectly. When the masks blew up at end you notice each one of the ladies Su Moa and Yui.
I really enjoy you two :D Heartwarming and honest reactions :) And love your SW-Shirt ;) Edit: You will really enjoy Ijime Dame Zettai, the live version on Budokan is the best i think :)
Never judge a book by its cover. You can't tell if someone's switch books. - Bands from Japan could be a theme you adopt on a regular basis, say weekly. - Another All-Girl band from Japan got recommended to me (by daughter's best friend.). Lovebites: "When Destinies Align" or "Golden Destination".
you 2 are my new favorite reaction channel. If you get a chance watch this song live and see the control those girls have over the crowds, it's amazing
Babymetal Starlight would be a good one. For something different you should try some Celtic Folk Metal from the band Eluveitie! The song Call of the Mountains would be a good one to start with. 😁
hiya grannies!!!! if we're keeping the j-rock/metal train going, i think 'cage' by dir en grey or 'beast of blood' by malice mizer are good. there's also the momoiro clover z and KISS collaboration: 'yume no ukiyo ni saitemina'
Amazing Musicvideo, great reaction. Greetings and so much Love from a german Kitsune \m/. Pls stay healthy. Only Babymetal and VfL Bochum, of course!!!
Great reaction, and love that you are getting more and more into BABYMETAL! Now to start learning their names and about the Kami band as well. I definitely suggest "Rondo of Nightmare" with Mischiefs of God Intro to get a feel for the band. Then "Megitsune" (pronounced "May-git-sue-nay") for some stunning visuals, great upbeat song, and a great message for girls. And since I did mention it before, it would be rude not to give you the names to start learning them: There is the eldest member and lead singer, Suzuka Nakomoto, known as "Su-Metal", who is 22 now (she was about 18 in this video, maybe 17 depending on when it was recorded). The dancers/background singers are Yui Mizuno, known as "Yui-Metal", and Moa Kikuchi, known as "Moa-Metal", both of whom just turned 21 in the past month or so. Unfortunately, Yui had to take a leave from the group for unspecified health issues in late-2017, then completely left in late-2018 because her health had not improved enough to re-join them and she wanted to pursue a solo career. That was the last we heard about her, though. Hope that helps! Welcome to the fox hole!
Another nice reaction! Karate's chorus is irresistible, by the third one you just have to be bobbing your head. They have a lot more songs that I think you'd like, but my recommendation would go to "Shanti Shanti Shanti", because it's just very different from what you have seen so far. ruclips.net/video/gQnG_T7kbtY/видео.html

I want to recommend One Ok Rock. I have 3 song that I think y'all would like; "Liar", "Re:make", and "Mighty Long Fall" are some of my favorites. They mix English and Japanese lyrics very well. I don't know if it's due to language issues of not having the right word or not, but still really good music

Great song . Thanks ladies , really enjoyed it . Respect 👍
I absolutely love when Moa-chan catches the fly and releases it unharmed. It shows not only speed and power, but compassion
SWWEEETTT more BABYMETAL. Dusk till dawn! GJ! Are also great! 3:13 choreography? Thats no Brittney Spears! BabyMetal actually sings and dances at the same time and you can tell they are well practiced and its real! Loved them in concert!
I discover this group through your videos so thanks!
I think you would like the anesthetic of Rammstein Mein Herz Brennt.
Take care!
Parasite Eve by Bring Me The Horizon would be an interesting one for you.
Yessss
Here are a couple more you might like:

I love you 2 grannies! BabyMetal Death legend 1997 next please 🤘🏻🐗🤘🏻
Love Babymetal
Hooray! My favorite Babymetal song!
Agree 100% on your captions comment. At least for a first time reaction/viewing, I prefer to watch the video, and, if I’m interested, check out the lyrics afterward. I got a kick out of “....I don’t want to watch and read.” 😆
Totally agree also with you both in that Babymetal wants everything to be just right in their performances. More out of respect for their fans first, then for themselves, it seems to me. It appears too many artists reverse that and think of their audience second.
Another fun reaction, and look forward to more! 👍
I think Grannies might be addicted to Babymetal. Time for a new addiction Grannies -- GOJIRA! :-)
Remember, Yui and Moa were 10 when they joined Babymetal (Su was 12). Here is a video of some clips of them growing up (music by ONE OK ROCK). ruclips.net/video/tUKhl9WxK80/видео.html
The Kami Band are all respected and famous metal musicians outside of BabyMetal. Kami is Japanese for God.
Wolf Totem by The Hu is a must watch. Amazing band and amazing sound. 🤘🤘
MEGITSUNE! Pleaaaaaase do Megitsune next
Check out Their 2016 Performance of Karate at the APMA's Awards and With Judas Priest's Rob Halfords on Painkiller
I don't care if you're a Babymetal fan or not, but you have to admit that their singer is absolutely amazing! I saw them live and even though I think that the Japanese and Korean music machineries are hardcore, it paid off for her. She's great!
my first impression of babymetal was pretty much the same. i first saw Gimmi chocolate and thought: WTF japan..
then karate is played randomly on my spotify and im thinking: hey this is pretty dope, what band is this, BABYMETAL?!? huh.. ok I'll give them a proter try
and here i am,
If you go to the youtube channel AMR, you can find some awesome Babymetal live compilations with English subs.
I recommend checking out Elevator Girl by them. They have an english version done by them.
"Road of Resistance", the live version in Japan... it'll make your day :O
Been hooked on Babymetal for a few years now, the girls are amazing but the kami band blows me away.
You have to check out "Catch me if you can - live " to see Babymetal at their wildest, trippiest, wtf-est best!
Tales of the Destinies called. It would like to have a word. 😆😁😂
Gimme Chocolate is to Babymetal as Tom Sawyer is to Rush.
I don't consider babymetal a sub-genre of anything. They made their own genre. They are... babymetal!
@@mitchellhodgemeyer7306 I did mean it as their most known song, or possibly most played.
I'd like to hear an English translation of their songs
If I ever have a little daughter I'm gonna start her off with Babymetal
They are awesome and cute
Rock on
Check out Poppy her track 'X' will leave you speachless, she combines pop and metal in crazy ways!
I'd like to propose something a bit more extreme, but beautiful in its own way: Dimmu Borgir - Gateways
Please, watch the live concert called "DIMMU BORGIR - Gateways (LIVE - FORCES OF THE NORTHERN NIGHT)".
Great reaction, thank you.
You should check out Babymetal 0 Doki Doki Morning :)
Ding ding ding! Ohayo wake up~
The 3 people in the white ghost outfits. Are each one of the girls Su Moa and Yui. This song was to release the in demons we all have inside. BABYMETAL did it perfectly. When the masks blew up at end you notice each one of the ladies Su Moa and Yui.
Thanks again Grannies 🤟😆, Love you too !.!
They have the same choreographer as their Amuse "big sister" band, Perfume.
this is my favorite song:) thank you!!
This song was amazing live!!
Their song The One is godlike.
I really enjoy you two :D Heartwarming and honest reactions :) And love your SW-Shirt ;)
Edit: You will really enjoy Ijime Dame Zettai, the live version on Budokan is the best i think :)
Listen to Motionless in white - Eternally yours 🤘🏼
Greetings and hugs from Mexico city 🇲🇽
Never judge a book by its cover. You can't tell if someone's switch books. - Bands from Japan could be a theme you adopt on a regular basis, say weekly. - Another All-Girl band from Japan got recommended to me (by daughter's best friend.). Lovebites: "When Destinies Align" or "Golden Destination".
This one is specifically for nanna King who loves bass guitars, do yourselves a favour and react to motionless in white - headache
We in the babymetal community Love u!!
you 2 are my new favorite reaction channel.
If you get a chance watch this song live and see the control those girls have over the crowds, it's amazing
I agree, I love their sound and performance. Imagine how big they could be if they where English. WOW. They would be larger than Covid 19!
Next Babymetal song is Rondo Of Nightmare with the Mischief Of Gods intro.
Babymetal Starlight would be a good one.
For something different you should try some Celtic Folk Metal from the band Eluveitie! The song Call of the Mountains would be a good one to start with. 😁
Please react to DIO with Holy Diver or Rainbow in the Dark
Great reaction grannies,, you may wanna give Distortion live at Download 2018 a go 🦊👀✌️✌️
Just reminds me of anime opening credits
I felt I needed to subscribe, if only to prove the demographic range is absolutely amazing. Also, you rockin' grannies are a breath of fresh air.😆
Onedari Daisakusen by BABYMETAL!
ruclips.net/video/1dT1ywYR5So/видео.html
hiya grannies!!!!
if we're keeping the j-rock/metal train going, i think 'cage' by dir en grey or 'beast of blood' by malice mizer are good. there's also the momoiro clover z and KISS collaboration: 'yume no ukiyo ni saitemina'
Amazing Musicvideo, great reaction. Greetings and so much Love from a german Kitsune \m/. Pls stay healthy. Only Babymetal and VfL Bochum, of course!!!
I love Babymetal and i love your channel,Grannies
I knew you guys were going to love this song! "KARATE" is my favorite song of BABYMETAL! You need to watch their older stuff!!
Yeah, you should have started with Karate official video imo. Glad you saw it finally. I recommend Ijime, Dame, Zettai. It was one of the first songs they made and I love the speed and power of that song. Go for the official video.
You both rock, band Nevermore, song Enemies Of Reality.
Love your channel! Please react to some of my favourite Japanese music:
Maximum the Hormone: Yoshu Fukushu, Maximum the Hormone II -Let’s Talk about Menkata Cottelee, and Buiikikaesu.
My First Story: I recommend starting with Fukagyaku Replace or Alone. Other great songs include Second Limit, The Story Is My Life, Reviver, Mukoku, and their new song Underdog.
Swanky Dank feat Hiro (My First Story): Sink Like a Stone.
Sokoninaru: Gou Ni Moyu, Tenohira De Odoru, and re:program.
Honestly about two weeks ago I saw your reaction on baby metal head bang and was really hoping for a reaction on karate and so it happened ! Also you can look up English covers for baby metals songs it makes it a lot enjoyable to hear the intentions of the songs
Grannies!! Have you watched Band Maid?
BABYMETAL - Megitsune MV for the next would be good. 🙏🤘🦊
I love your channel...I have gotten so many people hooked on it...one thing I'm not crazy about is that you guys like EVERYTHING....that leads me to believe that you're afraid to say if you don't like something cause you're afraid of backlash....but other than that...I love the channel...I have actually been binge watching it
It's a song about fighting with yourself.
First time I heard them I got the same reaction as you, then I realized all that was behind, meaning and quality and now I'm big fan of Babymetal. Even Rob Halford has performed with them! Just do the search of the videos
It would be great if you react to cemican, they're from Mexico and mix death metal with indigenous instrument , the song "Guerreros de cemican" is great.
Also, Babymetal has become one of my favorite bands of all time since 2015, and it's awesome you like it too
Great videos
You should do more Band-Maid!!
This was my first song I heard from them. You should do "From Dusk to Dawn" and "Da Da Dance".
Just a thought but for Babymetal reactions how about instead of the devil horns you can use the sign of the Fox God, very similar.
