Great video really enjoyed learning more about the relationship between football and mathematics. I will definitely buy Soccermatics 👍

I don't think football is mathematical. All they're doing is reading math into football instead of reading math out of football.

It’s impressive but also sad. The soul of football is being ripped out. Everything is so data driven. Football used to be an allegory for life, unpredictable.
Now every team team plays the same no matter what their skill level, then mavericks and individualism is being squeezed out. This is dangerous stuff…

Not really in my opinion. Teams were always trying to optimise their winning chances and there were always trends. If anything, these days more variety exists due to different approaches and interpretations clubs give to their data. The soul of football is being ripped out from excessive calendars and ridiculous sums of money, not technology.

Thanks for watching. I will be honest, I do see your point for sure, but I would say this is just how the game is going. Using data to make informed decisions is only going to become more apparent. I do think trends come and go, with playing styles etc. and that is not always to do with things like this. Let's see how it all plays out!

Football is definitely changing (or has changed), but I'm not sure it is sad. Aviation, for instance, has also changed. In the past, pilots had to fly planes on their own; now, they have GPS, autopilots, autoland systems, fly by wire, what not. Do we say that the soul of aviation is being ripped? It is safer to fly today than ever before. Likewise, in football, players and managers today are better (tactically, mentally, physically, etc.) then ever before. Maybe fewer mistakes means less excitement, but it also means higher quality of the game.
And I don't agree that mavericks are being squeezed out. How about Will Still, for instance? Would his story be possible without computers and data?

@@Korol1989 you’ve just compared footballers to jumbo jets, GPS systems, and aviation. I mean come on how robotic are you? 🤣
