Loving the comments! "they're going too fast. They're going faster than the traffic. Cause the traffics bad." 😂🤦♂ They need to be sitting in their cars, burning fossil fuels, annoyed like the rest of us god dammit!
Wolf King doing 76 mph on the highway... The car behind me is on my rear end... 😑speed limit 45 🤷 I Don t want to get run over and of course I need to go faster or you maniacs will kill me with your cars.🌆🛴💨🚓🚦🚕🚗😁🤙
This always happens with new forms of transportation going back to horse riders not wanting cars on their roads. This one is a really bad one due to the "dismount 50 feet from a person on a trail" nonsense. Avoiding traffic on roads (where the "collisions" cited occur) is a primary reason to ride an ebike. Just an idiotic city council with fearful old folks.
No kidding, it is ironic that he thinks that full size vehicles going more than the speed limit allows are OK yet he complains about kids hitting 15 to 18 miles and hour? 🤦♂️
We have to get people off of bicycles and into -cars- -SUV's- FULL SIZE DIESEL TRUCKS, but also GO GREEN by sorting your garbage (even if most of it ends up in the landfill, anyway).
That man they interviewed was so close to understanding that riding a bike will always be faster than sitting in traffic. It's almost like it's a better transportation alternative that cities should be incentivizing and not punishing, especially if they want any chance to meet their carbon reduction goals.
Seems to me I've heard ignorant stupid comments like this before where was it oh yeah 40 years ago when I was young and stupid don't be disrespectful you really don't understand how fast you will be considered old like 30 the new old.
old people have to make laws because of dumb young people. kids were causing problems with ebikes, but instead of punishing the kids, its punish everyone else instead.
Just a few things I'd like to point out as a safety advocate and former marathon cyclist. When you have an increase in usage, it is statistically normal to have an increase in incidents. E-bikes have a much lower injury rate than regular bikes: Bicycle injuries per 10,000 riders: 385.4 E-bike injuries per 10,000 riders: 0.13 Your news report gives the number of injuries as a combined total with regular bikes included, but we know from safety statistics that the majority of those injuries are regular bicycles. I don't fault reporters for not being knowledgeable about e-bikes, but perhaps research would be helpful. The person shown "speeding" is not even on an e-bike, nor is he using a bike lane. I checked with your San Diego police department, and helmets are not required except for children. Additionally, the first e-bike in this video is making a legal left turn from a driveway like the other vehicles, and the red e-bike is making a legal left turn and using proper signals. The rider blowing through a red light is in the wrong, but I would be remiss if I did not point out that cars blow through red lights thousands of times every day. Hats off to the gentleman realizing that a bicycle is faster than sitting in a traffic jam, but "too fast" is relative. Regular bicycles can go faster than class 1 and 2 e-bikes, and I've observed regular bikes blow past children and strollers at 30mph multiple times, and always with no warning. Regarding the new rules, reckless riding should absolutely be against the law. Riding with multiple passengers should be regulated, but there are hundreds of bike models that are designed to carry passengers. The "extra" passenger in your video is on a model which is available with a legal passenger package and footrests. Requiring a rider to dismount within 50 feet of a pedestrian or horse? That was not thought out at all. You are basically requiring all riders to become pedestrians pushing bikes. And what then? Walking behind pedestrians and horses until, what? Until they decide to turn in a different direction? And horses go faster than e-bikes and have no brakes... how is that legal? (Being sarcastic here; I also ride horses). E-bikes are not new, but their popularity is, and we do need to be responsible no matter what our mode of transportation may be... even if it's the cars that directly killed 31,720 people in the first nine months of 2021. Ooops! Did I just type that out loud? Sorry!
United States for you designed for cars and nothing else and if you try well more ruled get back in your car . I love riding but so dangerous because of lack of proper bike lanes and safety for bikers in general.
Old guy: “they’re going too fast, too fast… because the traffic is so bad…” Ebikes are the solution, and instead local government makes ebikes the problem. American is finished.
Right and these things usually upgraded can only do 30 35 miles an hour tops safely. They have electric dirt bikes that do like 70 miles an hour but it's not the same thing. A lot of those bikes they showed r rad powered ebikes and those only do like 20 tops with the throttle. U can do 25 Maybe a little faster peddling really hard down a hill on an older model. The newer models r limited as heck. Upgraded they usually only do 30 and I don't think u can even upgrade the newer models. Rad power bikes saw to it that u will only buy spare parts from their company. Don't want their newer bikes compatable with anyone else's hardware.
apparently you didnt watch the video...they said the kids riding the ebikes were the problem, not the bikes. other people have complained that because of idiot kids riding them recklessly, the govt wants to impose laws instead of punishing the idiot kids.
@@shadowsilverlight1651 i literally quotes the old guy, so yea, i watched the video, and i disagree with your opinion, the idiot kids are just doing what idiot kids do. Instead of making reasonable solutions for ebikes, the govt is going to try and ban them, instead of seeing ebikes as the solution to things like traffic and pollution. Take a car lane and it can become a two lane bike path, with speeds higher than the traffic, in downtown areas it would literally save the day. but yea, i didnt watch the video because i dont agree with you.
Didn’t disclose how many accidents are the results of the car driver. Given numerous accidents in Gas Lamp and Midway that were cars fault. The reporting seems slanted a bit against bikes. Many are kids and not adults.
Its something different and people don't like different things I guess... there's always gonna be some sort of bias against things people know jack about
especially when it involves kids, then american just go completely retarded. they Always punish people who have nothing to do with problem while allowing the people causing the problem to continue. dumbest thing ever.
This is why the horrible term "accident" is almost ALWAYS used when discussing car crashed, collisions and wrecks. The driver is the poor victim of circumstance, things out of their control, and just plain old bad luck. They're NEVER responsible!
Just wondering what you think would be proper bike etiquette on a narrow 5 foot wide trail if you wanted to pass a horse or person. 50 ft sounds extreme to me to, but if there wasn't a law or guidance how many cyclists would actually dismount to walk their bike around a person. Or would they feel OK to pass a person with less than 6 inches between their handlebar and someone's elbow.
@@visualpun650 - does the horse rider have to dismount when a pedestrian or bike approaches? If no, then the rule is beyond stupid. Everyone needs to be aware of their surroundings on a path or trail. Penalizing one class only is garbage.
Pasadena Ca has the same rules on their trails, too. Nothing new. Horses in big cities are expensive, and the rich always have the right of way. The rule applies to regular pedal bikes, too.
I have actual dashcam footage of cars blowing through red lights, stop signs, no turn signals, driving recklessly and ACTUALLY posing threats to peoples safety... why doesn't anyone do anything about that?
I ride a bike to work when the weather is ok, and EVERY day I almost get run down by multiple vehicles turning right from the opposite direction... some of them looking me in the eye as they force me to get out of their way.
@@Altema22 When I first got into ebiking, I started with a basic 750w kit, kinda slow but i kept to the bike lanes. at least twice some knucklehead drifted into my lane while texting and driving. Keep your head on a swivel and get a helmet cam.
Hilarious that the city of Carlsbad finds "it's time to crack down on ebikes" after 0 deaths in 3 years, yet it doesn't seem like they're "cracking down on cars" given that cars kill an average of 15 people per year just in Carlsbad alone.
I'm not saying everybody who rides these electric vehicles is doing it safety, aka helmets, lights, mirrors, listening to music etc. But I've been riding e-bikes since the beginning of 2021 and its the people in the cars who don't pay attention. Most people will turn right in front of you because they only look for cars, not people in the bike lane. I also go through red lights (after coming to a stop) because most traffic lights do not pickup ebikes let alone some motorcycles have that same problem. Also where I live bike lanes are randomly blocked off or non existent or 2-3inches wide before your off in the bumpy dirt so honestly I got fast enough electric bikes that I ride in the street. I would drive my car more often if gas prices weren't so crazy, its just gonna get worse. Even 3 of my co workers now ride bikes to work and told me I was ahead of the game since I been doing it for over a year now saving money
But you're doing over 45mph (sometimes on bike lanes) or passing traffic. That brings a lot of unwanted attention. Specially posted on RUclips, criminating yourself. You saw the video, that's what the old man said towards the end. I ain't no Saint either, I go over the allowed speed (15mph) when the road is to myself.
@@kingstergaming7242 so true. The industry is killing itself by selling over powered crap. It is not necessary. E-bikes with 1/3rd the power we allow still sell like crazy throughout Europe.
I live in Florida I ride my ebike every where and you are right about drivers not paying attention to ebikes I thought I was the only one who noticed that
chicago here. drivers rarely take notice or cares! twice have i felt the vehicles just inches away from me while im just going 20 and just a few inches away from the parked cars on my right WHILE BEING ON THE BIKE LANE. both times i slowed down then got off and walked for a couple of minutes to shake off the out of nowhere adrenaline rush you feel during the times you are in extreme danger
Hey man love your videos! I ride an onyx rcr, and honestly it’s been amazing using it as a main commuter to work and around town. Not to mention saving mad money on gas and saving the planet from one less car emitting emissions. People have bigger things to worry about than ebikes Karen’s and grandpas should honestly find some hobbies man
Being an avid bike commuter since around 2012, I've felt that the vast majority of law breaking or dangerous situations by bike commuters in the eyes of car users are normally a result of bad infrastructure, or bad laws forcing cyclists into dangerous situations because the rules of the road see bikes as an afterthought. Many experienced bike commuters have to choose between breaking laws or breaking bones, and a traffic ticket is cheaper and less painful. It makes me sad to see that as bike usage is growing, the growing number of problematic incidents is making law makers increase punishment rather than improving infrastructure.
🗣 people don't do anything responsibly..most people don't even walk down the street responsibly but yall talking bout some dam e bikes🤣..get a life..ain't nothing or nobody safe from anything..Live Life and Love
There's a whole series of vids by "Not Just Bikes" that shows how the Dutch design infrastructure that enables everyone to be better off. I wonder if any US city could design decent infrastructure that is not designed to keep USA citizens pumping gas and going to the hospital for all the related injuries and maladies.
They don't want that that's why our infrastructure was set up for basically just cars and semi's and that's the way the big vehicle companies want it. Why we don't have a good railway system across the entire country. We have plenty of space for it and the amount of jobs it would create is huge.
@@acefrm1593 sort of, but not exactly. Communities save a LOT of money for every mile of segregated infrastructure they build (roads for cars are really that expensive). It is corporate greed for ever more corporate welfare that keeps us building ever wider, faster, STROADS. Those big corporations, to which we give more money than all social welfare programs added together (including public education), that own our politicians.
So, instead of dealing with the real problem, they go after the ones that are not killing anybody. They have encouraged ever greater traffic jams and complain the bikes are going faster. They don't enforce speed limits and wonder why people are dying. Those bikes are not, "too fast, way too fast." Most won't go over 20 and 28 is hardly fast in traffic.
Or a normal bike is better than all the above? Get into shape while on your way to work? Electric bikes are for those too lazy to be real bikers and lack the drive to get into shape.
@@oX313Xo I think e-bikes are for people that don't want to be lumped in with the notoriously self-righteous toxic bicycling community. Not that *you* come off that way. At all. Really.

This story could have been an uplifting piece... about how bikes are growing in popularity to releive congestion and promote healthier life styles. With any new thing growing in use, enforcement to prevent reckless use is needed. As with anything, there are always bad apples. But in general, ebikes make roads and trails safe and provide better exercise than traditional bicycles. Even the legislation seems very reasonable and favorable for ebike users. But the tone of your story makes it all sound so dark and ominous. Lighten up and learn to see the brighter side of life.
Really shouldn't be a problem. Some of these old people think if they are inconvenienced in the slightest that they are being "terrorized". Like that old guy was just pissed that people were zipping by while he's stuck in traffic. He didn't actually see a violation, he's basically just a hateful dude that dosen't want people getting ahead of him 😂 probably drives an expensive SUV so he's extra pissed these days. And most if the injuries are undoubtedly caused by drivers. Probably pulling out in front of the bikes because they didn't bother to look. Then they blame the bike rider for going "too fast". Had that exact thing happen to me, and I was on a regular bike 🤣 people just want to blame someone else for their lazy habits
I’ll admit sometimes I go 29 when I think I’m going 20. But that’s because I have been riding ebike for long time that 20 feels slow. I have the Ariel rider grizzly dual motor dual battery too speed 36 and it is amazing to ride reliving your back from hunching forward
Cycling safely is not as intuitive as you would think. There is a learning curve to anticipating danger. Put a bunch of people (especially kids) on an e-bike that goes 20-30 mph when they haven't gone through the learning curve of riding safely and you get accidents. Then people complain to the government about those accidents and say "Do something!". Then the government, who has no idea about what it takes to ride safely, reacts, and this is what you get.
We must all learn to live with e-bikes. If the car were invented today there is no way it would be approved, consider a 2-ton hunk of metal traveling at 60 mph, pretty far from safe. Let's get over the ebike issues and get on with life
@@barbiegross1002 you are missing the point, barbie. There is a reason why cars are inspected and insured. I wish there were banned tbh. They are big (over 2 tons), they go fast, they kill approximately 40,000 people per year in the United States alone, and injure about 2 million per year. Bicycle riders - even the most reckless riders - are not capable of creating the the mayhem that cars create for the average person.
@@knosis "cars go fast" that's the whole point of a vehicle!? People want to go from point a to point b as fast as possible. Thank God people like you don't control the law.
@@armaanchowdhury1690 There is a consequence to speed in a car. The faster a car goes, the higher the likelihood of death and injury to it's occupants and people in the surroundings. A car is more likely to kill someone going at 25 miles an hour than a bike going at 25 miles an hour because of momentum (the physics concept that states that momentum =mass x velocity). This explains why highway deaths increase when speed limits are increased, although the amount of accidents stay the same. I'm all for drivers getting to places fast and efficiently, but not at the expense of others.
As a cyclist, I feel that I am unsanctionable by law because at any time I can transform myself into a pedestrian and carry the bike, instead of being carried by it. Maybe not everyone can do that responsibly, maybe the law doesn't agree with my view, but for all practical purposes that's my reality. On a bike I do whatever the hell I want, that I would do as a pedestrian.
And you can do so because cycling is so low impact and safe. Many pro-car folks go on and on about regulating bikes when it's their mode of transportation that should be way more heavily scrutinized instead of the one that has an incredibly low fatality and serious injury rate. This group somehow misses that they drive 2 ton polluting death machines daily.
The zero deaths vision acknowledges that even one death on our transportation system is unacceptable and focuses on safe mobility for all road users. This idea was first adopted in Sweden in 1997 as "Vision Zero" and since then has spread around the world.
E bikes are on average way more likely than other bicycles to stop at intersections, simply because its so much easier to get going again. I ride an E-bike and I have noticed myself and other powered bike riders stop way more than other cyclists, especially road bikers in packs on the weekend who blow through stop signs and stop lights in big groups, ride side by side out into traffic lanes, all kinds of bad riding behavior. That one clip of one kid blowing through an intersection with no context at all, whatever that was just bad reporting. Dismount within 50 feet of pedestrians and horses? That is rediculous. How about just go slowly by the pedestrians then use the electric motor to get back up to speed, like we normally do. Why are pedestrians and horses treated the same? They are totally different. If there is a horse then OK, so few people can afford horses anyway. We can dismount for horses they are rare and there are issues with them reacting badly to things they dont understand, bikes maybe trigger their 'is it a wolf?!?!' instincts. But no way should bicyclists have to dismount within 50 feet of a pedestrian on paths, that is a rediculous over reaction.
Bad behavior and bad laws. Problem with ebikes is the same as with cars. Jerks Horses and pedestrians have right of way and deserve respect. Just don't be a jerk. That is actually hard for many folks.
As a longggggg time cyclist, I know that you can pass all the laws that you want. but so long as people don't know those laws, they're utterly useless. So along with those laws, it's time to use the education system to teach children AND their parents about the laws and bicycle safety in general. Don't just limit it to classroom lectures and videos, include practical cycling, in parking lots and on the street. There's a LOT that can be done to make cycling a LOT safer here in the US. Problem is most Americans don't know that laws that are currently on the books and see a bicycle as merely a toy that you can jump on and be an idiot.
I sneak up on Geezers walking their dogs. I have blaring music and I pass them at 8 to 12 mph. It scares the piss out of them when they discover there are other people on the trail. I'm 57.
Would they be any happier if cyclists stayed behind the cars stuck in a traffic jam? Does it cause “outrage” to see cyclists moving along when lazy motorists jammed in the traffic they creat with their gas guzzling 4 wheel contraptions? I have a complaint as a cyclist, if I am required to dismount for pedestrians and horses. Should not cars be required to shut off their engines when within 50 feet to avoid spooing poisonous exhaust gas in our faces? This is a matter between the fat and lazy majority against the fitter minority.
E bikes are highly efficient transportation which make great sense so of course the government will be doing their best to stop their use, just like scooters and golf carts.
I'm an "Ancient" road cyclist who has been riding in traffic since the 70s and the ONLY reason I'm ancient is, because I followed the laws pertaining to cyclists during that time. Plus I'm a retired firefighter/EMT who has seen a few smashed people and their bike and learned from THEIR mistakes
Fix the roads. Add infrastructure for a new generation of transportation. Otherwise, quit saying the riders are irresponsible. Riders have to make it fucking work, is the reality.
I ride bikes, the pedal kind, and, I gotta say, it's the old men who are a problem on e-bikes. Rude middle a-ged old men who are in over their heads going faster on a two-wheeler they haven't been on in 40 years. I see it every day I ride. I live in a "destination" town with lots of nice bike trails I use to avoid traffic as I get out of town to train almost every day. It's cool to have this and most people on e-bikes are pretty good about it on bike trails, like most other users, just enjoying it, you know. It's not the guys who own e-bikes either, it's guys on rentals. (Never women, not once.) Guys see them and go for it, you know. Regular Mario Andretti's, I tell ya ...
In NJ anything under 20mph and 750 watts is treated like a regular bike. The bigger ebikes that can go like 30 mph and mess have to have a registration license and insurance.
It's interesting how they're cracking down on e-bikes but what are they doing about the increase in drinking and driving how about the domestic abuse they're just trying to find a way to crack down to make more revenue for the city. I guarantee you there is a dramatic increase in alcohol-related deaths so why don't they just ban alcohol in the city so you don't have any more drinking and driving there. But they will not do that because they bring in so much revenue for taxing of alcohol they don't get any revenue from ebike riders because they don't buy gas so they're going to crack down and start giving them fraudulent tickets to create revenue.
Oh the humanity!!! Someone pass MORE Karen laws. Hurry!!! Stop them from having fun and not using gas. Wait a minute aren't electric bikes what they wanted??? Save the planet and all??? I'm so confused.
Lol yep you nailed it. I mean this is part of the American culture in general but definitely Commifornia. They never take laws away, they always add more and more rules and regulations and taxes. They tax you on everything except breathing there, but they're working on that
Well cars cut me off making right turns on red lights and I am on the cross walk all the time. Since I slow down and I am ready to hit my brakes, I have been able to avoid getting hit. I think some of the problem with collisions is car drivers not even looking at sidewalks either pulling into a business or not looking at crosswalks at a light. I only go when it says walk and I still get close calls. I would have been hit almost every mile I ride, if I didn't watch traffic consistently. A cop has pulled people over and I was asked if I was OK, after I had to hit my brakes and put my feet down to stop. It's really bad here in metro Detroit, with people not turning they're head and looking, even for other cars. Bikes and people walking are definitely not being a concern for car drivers. Because of that, I haven't been riding my electric bike or regular bike as much. 😔
@@griggin7367 yeah, I was a over the road trucker and I would have to really watch traffic, when I was walking to a store or to find my shipper or receiver. It seems like major cities, where people are walking, it's not as bad but in suburbs and the country, it seems like it's horrible. Cars don't even watch for other cars, a person walking or on a bike is a smaller moving object and they don't care, until they have to pay for damages, tickets, and/or injuries.
Way to dodge the elephant in the room, CARS! If someone chooses to ride an e-bike instead of drive that saves a huge amount of space on the road among other things. I do think they should have their speeds limited since they can accelerate so quickly. But, this seemed a bit overkill given the many advantages that e-bikes provide.
The laws need to be simplified like in Europe where there are only two categories . 1- pedelec max 250 watt motor with a top speed of 25 kph . 2- anything outside of that category is considered a moped and must have registration, insurance and license . Even a throttle on a pedelec disqualifies it as a bicycle .
@0:51 The Rider shown "Blowing a red light " Is completely misleading. Thats a bike lane, There is clearly a walk light on the cross walk. And it's not a E-bike, it's regular mountain bike. Also he is clearly aware of this also showing care to make sure that he doesn't see any cars coming. This is the dangerously misleading kind of reporting that makes propaganda media aimed at restricting our freedom with misleading editing.
bikes, electric or otherwise are supposed to obey traffic lights and signs just like a car. at a red light but green walk sign they should stop, they arent a person walking they are like a car, supposed to stop at a red light and not against a walk sign. bike lanes arent sidewalks.
@@pepperm3466 some cities cyclist are allowed to pass thru the red light if there is a crosswalk sign permitting you to walk in that direction. In my city wdc. Of course those are to be obeyed and anywhere other than the central business district bikes can be ridden on sidewalks. Again these are the rules where i am..pretty sure each city/state will vary

Just another way to fine people and take their hard earned money, jesus have you seen the gas prices lately...hmm i wonder why people prefer to get ebikes.....there are worse things happening out there but seriously ebikes are the priority you gotta be f****** me
While i agree the rules are just dumb, they should also just accept and comply to the regular traffic rules, the other rules are dumb tho about the gas prices, you don't have it anywhere near as bad as us in Europe, paying €2 per liter or $8.32 a gallon
No motorists obey laws anymore. Why should they? Writing a check for a ticket isn't punishment, its a spread sheet entry. Everyone convicted should do time, jail or community service. No more fines.
The worse crime they had was a red light jumper? And that 186 number included acoustic bikes as well. The stat also failed to mention if the bikes were at fault.
This news story perfectly exemplifies how dumb most people are when it comes to bikes in general, and E bikes even more. Dismounting 50 feet from pedestrians is idiotic. And making it illegal to carry multiple passengers on E bikes, doesn't take into account the one's designed to literally carry multiple passengers. Idiots making laws about things they have no understanding of is really a problem in this country
no, the problem in this country is that its always punish everyone else instead of the idiot kids causing the problems. the kids are causing problems with ebikes, and instead of addressing that, as per usual, lets punish everyone else instead of the people causing the problem, because they are kids and we cant punish kids. we need them growing up being total selfish brats.
Exactly. I think one of the problems is that rich people are buying them for their 14 year olds so they don't have to take them to school. And 14 year olds don't know the traffic laws lol. Probably could just solve it by saying you need to be 16+ to use the bike lane with an Ebike
I had to change my job over these law changes because I can't afford a car and i'm too disabled to pedal a bike up hills or long distances. My scooter ebike gave me both confidence and a better platform to sit on than a squirrely little bicycle but this has just given me another reason not to go electric and just not go outside. I haven't really left my house for over 2 years since I sold my ebike. The people they say are "speeding" illegally disabled their speed limiters. On mine, which only went 20mph, I was easily caught up to and passed by normal pedal bicycles. give tickets to the people who drive them irresponsibly but don't take it out on the rest of us!! It doesn't matter if I hit you on my scooter or a regular bicycle, you're getting hurt either way. Restricting clean alternative forms of transportation is not the way to go. Whether I twist the throttle to go or I have to actively pedal, it's the same bike moving at the same speed I don't see the difference other than conveniency.
The city should license all ebikes like that of a motorcycles and have an ebike certification on their driver’s license too! Cut down the use of ebikes if they are so dangerous to the general public! Make these ebike have to carry ebike insurance and yearly registration/tag fee!
Odd, since the cities and states pushed for more bikes and less cars. To the point of making bike lanes everywhere. Only matter of time before reckless riders would appear. The bikes aren’t cheap at a min $500 for a good one.
$500 for a good one? You can't even get a good non electric bike for $500. These things can range into the $5,000 dollar range easily. The least expensive one I've found starts around $400 bucks and it isn't great at all. I'm all for more bikes. The problem isn't speed these bikes allow you to go, or even bikes in general as the man in the video pointed out. A seasoned Roadie can hit 30mph easily and even they will run red lights, stop signs, do what ever they want like they own the road. More bike rider's = more bike accidents. They can throw rules and regulations on bikers all they want to, but that isn't really going to stop stupid people from doing stupid things imo.
I'm curious out of those e-bike accident numbers who was at fault for the accidents? Car drivers are generally the ones that are negligent about observing cyclists whether bike, ebike or motorcycle.
Hey, I wanna say KUDOS to so many commenters here! I expected a barrage of anti-bike comments, but was happily surprised to see the opposite (from what I read to date). This is a positive observation. That perhaps people are FINALLY seeing how more asphalt is NOT the solution. Personal Electric Vehicles ARE the solution. The road footprint of a bicycle or scooter is something our transportation landscape needs to WELCOME with open arms! Since the bike booms didn't create the needed change, let's hope the electric bike/scooter/etc. will. In other words, MORE ROAD DIETS! Time to provide separate VEHICLE LANES for e-bikes & PEVs. No more relegating them to the margins of the roads where car doors are waiting to kill you! Take that four-lane road and make it two-lane for cars, two-lane for PEVs. Even the highly-touted electric vehicle is a failure, transportation-wise. How is an LA traffic jam full of Teslas the fix? Bumper-to-bumper traffic is a failure, no matter if your single occupant vehicle runs on gasoline, solar PV electricity, or Unicorn farts! It's a total failure. And since we cannot embrace mass transit in the USA, we have to do SOMETHING to address the traffic insanity. Bikes and other PEVs are the solution in many areas. Even when the weather isn't ideal. Heck, an e-bike in the south offers free "air conditioning." Ride an e-bike to cool off! That said, given the general incompetence of the drivers I encounter on a daily basis, we're gonna have to offer some two-wheeled training to these morAns so they don't kill themselves off in droves!
Well done by the City of San Diego, NYC needs to copy and do something about this too. Every time and accident with an ebike or moped happens they want to blame the driver not the biker, mind you most of these people ride above the speed limit, wrong direction, don’t respect traffic lights and stop signs. If they hit your car or someone they don’t insurance to pay for the damage. Both can share the road, but it’s time for the bike to be responsible too.
Yeah cuz drivers are so respectful . Find me a single driver that doesn't speed or drive distracted . Geezus fuck , you have a 2 ton weapon and you complaining about ebikes . Fuck off
I'm glad to see everyone agrees how stupid this is at a glance. Older generations cry about children's safety, but if they actually cared, they'd spend a miniscule fraction of the money lit on fire to build and maintain roads on better pedestrian and cycling infrastructure. We are far behind the developed world in violent traffic injuries. We have actually regressed in car safety and our road design is decades behind. Where is ABC 10's report on the literal leading cause of death for our youth? Traffic fatalities. It's good to see no one is falling for this garbage and maybe out-of-touch legislation like this will encourage people to take part in local elections.
I'm from the Netherlands: I can't stop laughing! "They go to fast", "they have no helmet", and the best: "dismount for a pedestrian!!!" WGHAHAHA. Ridiculous! Running through a red light is standard bicyclist behaviour in the Netherlands. As motorists; you know it's going to happen! And those helmets: like the people are on a downhill world championship riding ons flat paved road!! WGHAHAHA. Learn to ride a freaking bicycle if you purchase one. Or start earlier learning your children. We start around their 1st birthday, sometimes before the kids can walk. And limit the speed for elderly buying an E-Bike!
Kids are riding ebikes because in suburban america you're basically a prisoner in your own home until you can drive. We need more options for safe biking, not a crackdown.
163 accidents as opposed to literally thousands of car crashes in the same period, nice reporting. Next come the calls for regulation and taxation. Catching on?
We’re just having fun I ride a Surron and I don’t do wheelies as much I’m peacefully riding it but people calling the cops on my friend in i for no plates is dumb
This goes back to the idiotic theory that it is best to punish everyone, because of a few idiots. The real idiots are the ones trying to crush those that are actually doing something good for the environment that is actually fun, and is safer than many forms of transportation if like most people do, they pay attention to traffic.
Dismount when within 30 feet of a pedestrian. Considering more cars kill pedestrians than Ebikes why don't they make it that you are not allowed to drive a car within 30 feet of a pedestrian. Because that would be ridiculous just likethe law about 30 ft dismounting on a bike.
If you want to ride an electric bike or other electric vehicle, just go with the rules. Stop at red lights, stop when people cross the road, use helmet. And you are good to go. Don't make things harder for us that ride in a good way. They will make rules for electric vehicles and it will not be good. Drive like you will drive a car or motorcycle.

This always happens with new forms of transportation going back to horse riders not wanting cars on their roads. It's almost like it's a better transportation alternative that cities should be incentivizing and not punishing, especially if they want any chance to meet their carbon reduction goals.

@channelofstuff 100 people die everyday due to cars, but let's regulate e-bikes. Thanks for proving my point.
Just a few things I'd like to point out as a safety advocate and former marathon cyclist. When you have an increase in usage, it is statistically normal to have an increase in incidents. E-bikes have a much lower injury rate than regular bikes:
Bicycle injuries per 10,000 riders: 385.4
E-bike injuries per 10,000 riders: 0.13
Your news report gives the number of injuries as a combined total with regular bikes included, but we know from safety statistics that the majority of those injuries are regular bicycles.
Sorry!

100% right. Old people just don't like change.

Just wondering what you think would be proper bike etiquette on a narrow 5 foot wide trail if you wanted to pass a horse or person. 50 ft sounds extreme to me to, but if there wasn't a law or guidance how many cyclists would actually dismount to walk their bike around a person.

Horses and pedestrians have right of way and deserve respect. Just don't be a jerk.

We do not need new laws considering it is already illegal to run a red light regardless if riding an e bike, a regular bike, or a car.

They tax you on everything except breathing there, but they're working on that
I love how while I was in Europe they were big into bikes trains etc. also those Asian countries. Should take notes
Exactly the same problem down south.
"they are going faster than the traffic cause the traffic is bad" Yeah that's the point. This guy is a genius.
“They’re going faster than the traffic, and the traffics bad” 😂😂😂😂
I seen that and was like wow this is misinformation😳. Definitely was not an e bike
@@pepperm3466 some cities cyclist are allowed to pass thru the red light if there is a crosswalk sign permitting you to walk in that direction. In my city wdc. Its actually ok to pass thru a red light before you get a green in order to have a jump start on traffic. But if there is a bike lane with its own traffic lights. Of course those are to be obeyed and anywhere other than the central business district bikes can be ridden on sidewalks. Again these are the rules where i am..pretty sure each city/state will vary
@@pepperm3466 a Bike is nowhere near the weight and speed of a 5,000 lbs vehicle 🤦♂️
@@link2442 yet the California law is that if your riding a skateboard or bicycle or an e-bike or rollerblades roller skates scooters and those one wheeled things are all under the same laws as an automobile meaning they have to obey all traffic lights signals Etc as if that's an automobile. You can look it up if you want.
Leave it alone. States always look for an excuse to fine people and use "Safety" as a BS guise for it.
Just another way to make money for the state
If bikes are “going faster than traffic”, then they are the traffic. You, in your gas guzzling SUV are just in the way.
Just another way to fine people and take their hard earned money, jesus have you seen the gas prices lately...hmm i wonder why people prefer to get ebikes.....there are worse things happening out there but seriously ebikes are the priority you gotta be f****** me
While i agree the rules are just dumb, they should also just accept and comply to the regular traffic rules, the other rules are dumb tho
about the gas prices, you don't have it anywhere near as bad as us in Europe, paying €2 per liter or $8.32 a gallon
Idiotic laws are an even bigger problem in Cali, the entire State is run by baffoons and a Hive Minds.
Exactly. I think one of the problems is that rich people are buying them for their 14 year olds so they don't have to take them to school. And 14 year olds don't know the traffic laws lol. Probably could just solve it by saying you need to be 16+ to use the bike lane with an Ebike
@@pauld.b7129 but kids have been riding bikes for ages. Maybe the issue is with throttle bikes not pedal assist
Parents need to take responsibility for your kids' action
"they're going faster than the traffic, because the traffic is bad" 😂😂😂 that sounds like a car driver problem bro
E-bikes are a lot safer than cars it's the cars you need to worry about when you're on the road on any bike
Get a grip on drug dealers and criminal elements before you get feelings hurt over a BIKE! Het real people
Banning ebikes is stupid. Not everyone is willing to pay over $50 worth of gas every freaking week.
Only in America will you outlaw efficiency and then at the same time make efficiency absolute mandatory for someone else
Meanwhile here Montreal, the city added ebikes to their fleet of public bikes so the public can use
The city should license all ebikes like that of a motorcycles and have an ebike certification on their driver’s license too! Cut down the use of ebikes if they are so dangerous to the general public! Make these ebike have to carry ebike insurance and yearly registration/tag fee!
Anyone blowing through a red light is not going to be less of a hazard if they are breaking more rules. All must follow the basic rules of the road.
How about instead of more rules, we make cities friendlier for bikes and separate bike traffic from car and pedestrian traffic?
You'll be paying ALOT more for a good bike.
@@bryanjordan8876 I rather have a e bike rider blowing the red light at 20 mph than a 5,000 lbs SUV going more than 60 trying to beat the light
“They go faster than traffic” 💀🤣🤣🤣 bro my brain cells
I'm curious out of those e-bike accident numbers who was at fault for the accidents? Car drivers are generally the ones that are negligent about observing cyclists whether bike, ebike or motorcycle.
It’s not the ebikers fault, it’s the cars that don’t want to drive safe
They need a law where if u dont drive u get payed and no tax cause we save road and people
Well done by the City of San Diego, NYC needs to copy and do something about this too.
Cyclists aren't killing people.
It's good to see no one is falling for this garbage and maybe out-of-touch legislation like this will encourage people to take part in local elections.
why not ban cars they seem to be the ones causing all the trouble
Stop messing with the ebike owners. This is harassment.
Meanwhile californian drivers go right through red lights and speed all the time. I see it daily
Damn , we gonna need the military, tanks, aircraft carriers and precise air strikes! to bring back our safe roads!
Mad world
We’re just having fun I ride a Surron and I don’t do wheelies as much I’m peacefully riding it but people calling the cops on my friend in i for no plates is dumb
I think the real problem is the government cant tax your E bike.... Yet
This goes back to the idiotic theory that it is best to punish everyone, because of a few idiots. The real idiots are the ones trying to crush those that are actually doing something good for the environment that is actually fun, and is safer than many forms of transportation if like most people do, they pay attention to traffic.
How can Carlsbad randomly change the laws without a PUBLIC vote??
Dismount when within 30 feet of a pedestrian. Considering more cars kill pedestrians than Ebikes why don't they make it that you are not allowed to drive a car within 30 feet of a pedestrian. Because that would be ridiculous just likethe law about 30 ft dismounting on a bike.
Oh, FFS…throttle ‘bikes’ are not bikes. Lumping all eBikes into one category is just plain stupid.
If you want to ride an electric bike or other electric vehicle, just go with the rules. Stop at red lights, stop when people cross the road, use helmet. And you are good to go. Don't make things harder for us that ride in a good way. They will make rules for electric vehicles and it will not be good. Drive like you will drive a car or motorcycle.
why not build and upgrade the current bicycle infrastructure?
0:57 that’s a regular bike Not a E bike.
