This install turned out to be more time consuming than I expected, but was too hard. I hope it holds up well over time. I'm pretty happy with the end result and think it will be durable enough.
I’m wondering who else has installed one of these. What was your experience with the installation? How’s it holding up? Would you do it again?
Thanks for the hint on cutting the bottom of the closet insert rather than the baseboards!
Glad it was helpful!
Hi 👋 Just wanted to say thanks for making this video. I just bought this system and was going to pay to have it installed but now, after watching you do it, I feel like I can probably manage it. I know my shelves need to be cut down to size and also the rods. That’s the bit that makes me the most nervous. I really appreciate the advice to use painters tape when cutting. I’ll be sure to do that. Thank you!
This makes me so happy. I love that my video is helping someone. Good luck with the install, you got this.
@@Ryder_In_Motion I did it all by myself. It took me all day but I’m so happy with how it turned out. Thanks again!!
@@hannahkyle2998 Excellent. Thanks for the update. Still happy with mine too. Best wishes.
Thank you very much for this video! I am far from a carpenter, n I thought these instructions weren’t that clear… I could have probably figured it out(trial error) but, thanks to your video it was easier. Thank you again!👍
Glad it was helpful! That makes me happy.
Very informative. I couldn’t decide between these or the Rubbermaid shelf track system. The cam lock system and the drawer misalignment swayed me towards going with shelf track system. Thank you very much.
Glad it was helpful!
Very detailed. I am considering this cabinet for my spare bedroom.
Thank you
Great instructional video and assessment of this product. Everything that happened to Ryder in Motion happened to us. Baseboard and hanging rods being slightly too long. The point of Ryder’s video was installation “as is” but we ended up ditching the metal rods and cutting wooden dowels to size and using different hardware.
If you’re putting up shelves about the rods, I would recommend putting shelves up first if you want the top of the unit to be level across. Then put the rods up underneath.
This closet system is example of you get what you pay for. It is acceptable for a secondary closet or kids room. I would not recommend it for high traffic areas or a master closet.
I just did 3 of these. First one took a little time but the other 2 flew up in no time. Actually was pretty fun to build. I also cut a notch on the bottom of each side. I also had to cut the rods on 2 closets and they cut easily. Only thing I haven't done is add side shelves. I regret not doing so because even though my rods are very level, if I add side shelves later I wonder if they won't line up perfectly.
Edit: also I had no studs in the sides of two closets and used 2x50lb anchors on each rod clip. Feels very sturdy, hopefully it holds up. Time will tell.
I did a 2nd one about a week after this installation. I think you could still add the shelves. Don't see why that wouldn't work.
I have 2 of these too install soon. About how long did it take you to finish? Any pointers? Thank you
Thank you very much for this video and instructions.
You are welcome!
Very helpful tutorial and feedback! Thank you
Glad to hear it was helpful
Thanks you!! You help me a lot !!! Good job 👍🏻
Glad to hear that!
THANKS for posting!
Could you add another drawer on the space at the bottom?
Awesome video! Why would you not recommend this for a primary closet?
Yeah I’m curious too. I bought two of these to put in my master closet
I spoke too soon on that. I was worried about the pressed wood construction as I seen durability issues with it in furniture. More than two years later, this closet is still holding up very good.
I spoke too soon. It hold up very good.
@@Ryder_In_Motion I’m glad they have held up! I am really liking them in my closet so far
@@bshenc4026 I’ve done two so far. Both are still holding strong.
His comment that it took 5 hours to install the one tower kit had me worried as I had two towers and two corner units to put together. While the first tower was a little slower, it all came together pretty quickly after that. Probably four hours for the entire build. First tower I put the corner gussets in with the non-white side facing out. Also, remember your cams on shelves should be on the underside, not the visible shelf side. The corner units are almost easier to just lay out and put together visually rather than following the instructions, particularly if you are doing an orientation different than the primary orientation in the instructions.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Are those rods adjustable like curtain rods? Or cut to fit?
They are adjustable. I had to cut one side because I needed it to be shorter. The other side was fine.
Thank you for this video, are the shelves adjustable in length?
The side shelves have to be cut to length.
Thank you
You're welcome
I'm assembling one now and need to attach it to the wall and cut the closet rods. Did you use the same saw to cut the wood at the base and to cut the closet rod? If not, please tell me which saws to rent. Thank you.
Sure for the slow response. I used a cheap hand metal hacksaw to cut the rod.
Thanks!
You’re welcome
I fumbled this at the step where you join the side panels with the bottom shelf. I did it with one side panel on the floor and tried to balance one hand on top of the other side panel on my own. I didn’t have balance and the the top facing side panel fell and ripped the cam plug screw out. It can’t be drilled back in, since it’s too loose. I have to buy another system. How did you join your side panels before locking them? Was it standing up?
Sorry to hear that. I assembled the main unit with it lying on its back on the floor. I then attached it to the wall into the closet and installed the side shelves between it and the wall.
Hey question! What if I don't have any studs in that particular part of my closet? Can I just attach the dry wall?
You can. Just use good drywall anchors.
HI there. Wondering what the dimensions were of your closet? Thanks for the very helpful video. Cheers.
About 70" w and 24" deep. 8' ceiling. Thanks for the note.
Are the rods adjustable? I have very big closet so I’m not sure if the rods will be long enough?
Yes. One bar slides inside the other. I believe they range from 30"-48".
Thank you so much for this video. I have a closet that’s 35 inches wide. Do you think this system would work?
Yes, but the tower will take up about a 1/3 of that space.
What did you use to notch the bottom end of the cabinet? I don't think I saw that tool listed.
I cut those notches with a powered jig saw. Just about any saw will work if you're careful. Recommend you put painter's tape wherever you plan to cut to reduce chipping.
Hey there! I wonder if you know the difference between the Brightwood and Style+ by Closetmaid.
I’m not sure on that one. I’ve installed one Brightwood (Lowes) and one Impressions (Home Depot) kit. The Impressions kit comes with trim pieces that make the kit look a little fancier. Although it looks nice, the trim makes the shelves narrower. If you’re installing drawers, than those will be narrower as well. Based on that alone, I thought the Broghtwood was more practical (and a less expensive). The Impressions is a little nicer looking.
Just got a drawer and it came out crooked. The gap between the top of the drawer and the shelf is uneven. This is pretty annoying. Is there a way to correct this?
I had the same challenge. I found there was a little play in the position of the rails on both the frame and the drawer. I was able to loosen the screws on both, shift them a little, and retighten. That might help if its just a little off. Otherwise you may have to drill new holes in the rail to reposition it. Good luck
I just bought the same kit. Did you have to cut the rods to fit your closet?
I had to cut the rods on one side. Wasn't too hard. Did it with a hand hack saw.
Oh, and good luck with the installation.
Hey there if my floor is not level? And need to cut a piece of bottom will white board be chipped or cut clean?
I recommend you tape the board before cutting it to reduce chipping.
What did you cut the boards with?
My small circular saw. I tapped them with painters tape to keep the edge from fraying up.
Do you know if you can install a fourth drawer at the bottom?
I don't believe so. Here's the challenge... The bottom shelf, which is also the bottom cross support, is just below the lowest drawer. To add a fourth drawer you would either have to remove that shelf (not recommended as you'll potentially comprise the side to side support it provides) or mount the drawer below that support shelf. There appears to be enough room to mount below (barely), but that creates two issues. The first is that it would add additional space between the third and fourth drawer (look weird). The second is that, if it does fit, the drawer would be very close to the floor and may even rub. With that said, you could add other drawers to the upper section. If you aren't afraid to make more significant changes, you may be able to move the support shelf all the way to the bottom and put the fourth drawer above it. There's no pre-drilled holes to try this, so you would be modifying the outer boards. Hope this helps.
Why would you say it’s not good for a primary closet? Do you have recommendations for one for that.
My general experience with pressed wood products is that they wear faster than traditional materials. I will say that this closet kit is used every day and is still holding up well. I think I spoke too soon when I made that comment. Thanks for watching.
Is there a kit you recommend for your primary closet?
Not really. I ended up Installing two of these kits. One is in a spare room and the other is used daily by my adult daughter. At install, I was a little concerned about the pressed wood construction and strength of the closet rods. However, it seems to be working out great. I think I was a little too quick to make that judgement call. Time will tell, but so far they’ve been good.
How much was that is it from Amezone
119.99 at lowes
where do you buy that ?
I ordered it from Home Depot’s website. They delivered it to my house. Lowes also sells one, but it’s a little different. This one is a little less fancy, but I think’s a better value.
Brightwood at Lowe’s are cheaper.
@@donamaria1329 oh okay thanks ly
My Experience. Its cheap wood. If you do a mistake then there is no turning back. The instructions on manual is pathetic. I will not buy it again
Thanks for weighing in. Always appreciate other’s thoughts.
@@Ryder_In_Motion It was your video because of which I was able to set the unit. Thanks for making this video.
@@TheAmit4sun Glad to hear that.
The instructions suck
