    Very in-depth review, thanks so much!
    Insights you showed tipped my buy towards the MKE (had initially planned to get NTG4, not the plus - which is slightly cheaper than both the MKE and NTG4+).
    One thing I would have loved to hear; how the pickup changes by increasing the distance *in-doors* (out door demo was good, but in-doors I fear you'll have other characteristics based on reverberation). I plan to use this to record in a room with a bit limited audio treatment, while I have to keep a minimum distance from the audio source.

    Just watched this after buying a Sennheiser MKE 600 following a lot of deliberation between it and the Rode NTG 4. Stunned to hear here just how much more I prefer the MKE 600. @@NOlimitsON Wow, well my knowledge on the subject is close to zero so that makes me feel my research was sound! One question I do have, if you have a moment, when using the MKE 600 with my camera for video be it indoors of outdoors for nature (but on camera/close to camera) is it better (does it make a difference) if I use the supplied XLR to 3.5mm jack straight into the camera (using the cameras probably basic pre amp - I am assuming that's what happens - light on knowledge here!) or where possible will I see a benefit connecting the MKE 600 via XLR straight into my TASCAM Portacapture X8 XLR port? Assuming this then makes use of the better pre amp in the X8?

    • @matango1979

      From a sound quality point of view, I would say the mke600. From a practical point of view, definitely the Rode videomic NTG. Safety track, gain dial, HF boost, smaller size, better shockmount,...
      One thing I hate about the Rode is the fact you can't change the battery once it's dead. You would have to send it for repair.
      I own the mke600, but I never use it on camera. Just boomed. My favorite on-camera mic is actually the Comica VM30. It has all the features of the Videomic NTG plus a built-in wireless receiver. It's so practical for solo work, and the sound is just slightly inferior to the pretty solid Videomic NTG. I'm looking to upgrade to the VM40 in the near future, as it has internal 32bit float backup recording in addition to everything the VM30 has. Also, the windmuff is much better, and the audio quality is slightly improved.

I don't say ROde is not good but is just something about how Sennheiser products are engineered. one point for the Germans on this one. I really enjoyed your video. I am about to buy the Sennheiser and I would like to ask how good it is at isolating external noise in terms of doors opening/closing and also sounds like water drains in the pipes within the studio.
    I'm specifically asking for this because even though we have a Rode microphone that captures the voice really well, it doesn't insulate against these noises ( our room has sound deading foam around the chair where we sit and talk, also curtains for sound proofing and is really silent.
    We also tested with a Thomann microphone ( podcast like ) which is really good at isolating everything but it's not that good capturing the tone of the voice as we want.

    is the sennheiser compatible with the rode blimp?

  • @beingheath5743
    @beingheath5743 3 года назад +3

    Great review! I think the Sennheiser is the winner because it does have a richer sound where the Rode had a thinner sound. When buying two Sennheisers, do you need to buy a "pair" like the Rode cardioid condesner mics or is that possible?

      @beingheath5743 3 года назад

      @@NOlimitsON I've been researching the best mics and came across a review on the Rode NT5 and the reviewer said that if you're going to buy two of them to buy them as a "pair" (which are on amazon)...the mics were made at the very same time...almost like twins, because you will get the exact sound. He went on to say that if you bought the same mic and then bought another at a different time, you have have two different sounds.

    Hey mate great video!
    You put really good effort into this. Much better than other RUclipsrs' videos on this topic. I hope you grow big very soon 👍
    I think I might buy a couple Sennheisers for my channel.
    This is why I like Sennheiser. When they make something, they usually make it right and consistency is good.
    I've had some bad experiences with Rode products. They are a bit hit and miss I think...does anybody else have a similar experience with Rode?

      Since the MKE 600 has the option of being battery powered or phantom powered, you can absolutely use to with an iPhone. You’ll need two things for you gear bag: KA 600i cable ($20, XLR Female to 3.5 mm TRRS) and an Apple Lighting to Headphone adapter ($9)... add FilMic Pro onto your phone to shoot and LumaFusion to edit and you have a really powerful mobile setup for any application.

    FINALLY! I've found the best comparison in my opinion. There are plenty of reviews and comparison but all of them compare only the voice. I'm interested in how the mics perform for foleys and sound design. No one make a demo of this kind. Thank you! You gained a subscriber!
    BTW I think the Sennheiser is the winner. More clarity, slightly pronounced bass but not so much to became boomy. NTG4+ is more boxy, but maybe has much more rejection on the sides.
    The worse maybe is the lav, but that's an omni so it takes all the room sounds.

    Not a fair test opening coke can; AGC is on. Filling the glass sounded great Naked in the wind test Rode less off-Odis rejection. Maybe my ears are slow but sound comparisons were a little fast for me. Another thing to watch is cable noise, rubbing or tapping the cable can be disastrous.
