I am no seamstress and dont even own a sewing machine so i sew things by hand. A friend of mine bought a dress 3 sizes too big cause she was in love with it and asked me to perform a miracle and alter it lol. Wish me luck!!
I followed this video and altered a dress I thrifted and it turned out so good! It was my first sewing project ever and I'm so proud of how it turned out :)
You saved my life! I make wigs and needed to find a different way to take in a wig that was too big without compromising its form. I applied your instructions with what I knew about wig making and it worked so well. Thank you!!!!! Subscribed for life.
That dress screams late 80s/early 90s to me, not too bad of an era for clothes. Today's clothes to me feel so "Blah", if you know what I mean, no panche, attitude, fire, whatever you wanna call it. Were it me, I would have tapered it out after the hips to create a fuller, swooshier skirt, but that's me. Another beautifully done piece.
Ahh yes I do love fit n flair! I felt like there wasn't enough fabric in it to have any drama in the fit n flair but I think I am going to add a ruffle to the hem! Thank you for watching :)
When hemming, put the edge of the hem where your leg goes in. (Narrows) The eye is drawn to the contrast between the fabric color and the color of your leg, and by putting that important point where your body goes in at the sides, you’ll get a more flattering look. There are several points on the leg where this naturally happens: and it differs on everyone. But if you keep that in mind, you’ll always have a flattering skirt length.
@@SewAnastasia I wasn’t criticizing your look at all. I just know people have a hard time knowing ~where to put the hem and wanted to add it as something to help others. It’s not intuitive to most of us: only to those who have “the eye.”
Thank u so much. I use your tutorial to alter a dress to a smaller size and it looks really good. 👍saved me $ cause I was going to get a professional seamstress to do the job... ❤
A wonderful tutorial! I have just been gifted a dress that is too large (dress is 11/12 and I usually wear a 6) that also has short sleeves, princess seams and a button-up front, so your video is going to be very helpful. The shoulders are also too wide which will mean undoing part of the sleeve /shoulder seam to reshape top of armholes on bodices. Oddly enough the lines of the princess seams look okay - they sit well over the bust so I may not have to alter them, but the side seams will need around an inch taken off. Thanks for sharing your information and experience.
I love the new video process how you go right into it! The introduction part to me is like a commercial that I’m just not into!! I want to see you work!!! Ty for your wisdom and sharing!!!
I just ordered the same dress in six colors and it fits great in the boat but the waist is too loose and it probably could be shorter. This was super helpful and giving me a reason to use my sewing machine I got during quarantine. I’m actually looking for a serger on marketplace rn 😂
I'm glad i found your videos cuz i am a very small female and have to alter everything. I am trying to buy a dress form like you have, but i can't find one small enough. The children's sizes are all wrong and weirdly not small enough in the chest. I am 100 pounds, a pretty firm size 2 or XS. Have any recommendations?
Anastasia, thank you for sharing this quick and easy video! Your dress looks fabulous! I was gifted a beautiful pink linen jacket dress, with soft chiffon ruffles around the 3/4 length jacket sleeves, and at the bottom of the dress hem. The problem-- both pieces have a lining yikes🫣! It's waaay too wide! And, to top it all off, I have a an hour glass figure, with a small waist, approximately " medium hips and full, high behind, lol ! The dress is a one piece front, and a two piece back with a 22" invisible zipper! Do you have any videos for this dilemma!
I like the way you adjusted the dress through using the seams. I do think that you may have it a little tight and a little short as you keep yanking on the hem. I do plan to adjust a dress that I have using your method and I have subscribed. Look forward to more ideas from you.

Question, how would you do this with a sleeveless dress? Would you just skip the whole sleeve bit or do you have to go about that section of the tutorial differently?
You need to keep it balanced. You should take out the zipper, cut off the extra & then put back in the zipper. I have a few videos about putting in invisible zippers if you need help with that.
I am an amateur seamstress and I want to alter some dresses. The problem is the dress form, it is very expensive. Any suggestion what to use? Thank you.

What? 1st ever? That’s awesome 👏 send pics!
Yep. I have lost 2 sizes since November. Size 16 down to a 12. Not bad for a 56 year old.
Heck yeah! Get healthy healthy! Time to tailor up the wardrobe!

Yes, the 80's had more panache, and glamor!
I might have changed the buttons out later, with more blingy ones! 🥰

I do not have anything for that specific dress but you will want to do the same thing to the lining as you do for the self fabric when tailoring.

Hi!
It's the same process. You just need to do the same thing to both layers.
Great ❤, can I use a needle and thread?
great explanations, I hope I can find a vid where you let out a skirt with hardly any allowance that zips in back
Hummmm I am not sure I have one on that but I have videos on making dresses bigger. I would check out those videos.

Do you take in both sides of the dress or only one side? Seems unbalanced?? So glad I found you, by accident, thank you for sharing your knowledge xx
You take in both sides so you can keep in balanced. Thank you for watching today.
Thank you for making this video. How long did it actually take you?
I really don’t know cause I was shooting & doing it so it’s slower. Maybe 1 hour if I wasn’t filming it.
Will this same method work for a dress with a zipper?
Totally 💯

can u do this with a shirt also?
Totally! I have some specific blouse alteration videos & t shirt videos you should take a look at too.
You're good. I would have shortened it too much going from the bottom up.
I lost a ton of weight after having my baby and now i wear L instead of XL -3x, like the dresses I bought. So I want to take them in now.

Ahora bien ¿como se hace el vestido mae largo?
Good video but I was hoping you would say how much room from your body to the seam so you don’t take it in too much & you can’t move your arms etc…
That’s really a personal preference for fit. I like to make mine fitted to the body. Like maybe an inch total ease around the body .
How to add sizes?
What do you mean?
Turned out so pretty. Hope you enjoyed you date night.
