I am in NZ too. I looked for fossils a number of times at Birdlings Flat, South of Banks Peninsula, but can see from your video, that I had no idea of their appearance. Thinking back, fifty years ago, as a teenager, I was there and had been sitting on a rock for some time facing the sea, when I became aware of a large Yellow Eyed Penguin, just two rocks away. It would have weighed similar to a small dog. It must have approached from behind. The bird was calm and unconcerned about me. I shifted onto the rock between us, then slowly reached out to see if I could touch it. Once within eight inches or so, it took a sideways swipe at my hand with its beak and hopped onto the next rock. I’ll never forget.
I've never seen a Yellow Eyed penguin in the wild, would love to see one! I mainly find the little blue penguins, cute things! I've been to Birdlings often. Great place for agates and petrified wood 😄
Nice! I think I learn quite a bit when you show the prep work on your finds, stabilization, what you look for in the concretion, the stylus how you hold it and manipulate it just fascinating watching you reveal. Thank you for showing it!

@@MamlamboFossils All joking aside your channel is amazing and I love to see you working to unveil what's concealed in these concretions. Alas there is no fossil hunting to be had locally...
I love the way you keep in contact with the museum. You may discover a new species to the area or a new species all together!
