I’ve had epilepsy since I was 9 months old and it hasn’t been until recently (about 19 1/2 years later after going through many medications not working despite what I tried I could never get them under control since medications would only last a couple of months and when I had vimpat it got even worse (every month) until April 21st, 2021 I combined vimpat with another medication and I haven’t had one since and hopefully it stays that way! Wishing everyone with epilepsy a better life! ❤❤ hope you find your treatment soon! ❤❤❤

I had my first epilepsy when I was 9 and it was during sleep. I had treatment but slowly it started to happen when Iam in class. Now it's controlled. I used to experience dejavu, sudden concentration lose, Unable to solve mathematics problems, Suddenly pen use to fall from my hand and I used to feel like falling as I loose balance on my legs... But now it's controlled with medication. Now Iam 20 years old. It have been 11 years that I have started to live with it. At first I was worried and anxious about it. But now I'm not. I just believe that everyone will die oneday...and epilepsy is just a thing that may cause my death...I will live my life that God has gifted me. I have long way to go and many things to be done... I will live my life happily with ups and down...

    “It’s not a fatal disease”
I’m sorry, but did I hear that right?
My best friend with epilepsy has died in his sleep from choking during a seizure , I almost died from a seizure, there is many ways you can die from epilepsy and seizures, hitting your head after falling if standing, choking, the seizure it’s self, like ITS NOT JUST A DISEASE ITS A FATAL DISEASE THAT COULD KILL PEOPLE

Also people who have ever had Epilepsy that is control or uncontrolled are known to have a reduced life expticy of up to 15 years, compared to people who have never had Epilepsy in their life. Even people who have outgrown or have stopped having Seizures are known to die at a early age.
    So this is very misleading

I developed epilepsy in my late 30's and I already had seizures once in awhile since I was nine years old. I started having seizures in my sleep and every day sometimes more than three, I actually hurt myself in my sleep and had to get physical therapy for my shoulder. I talked to my neurological and she put me on seizure medication and it's gotten better. I only had two seizures in the last three months but it's because I had infections and I recently found out I have an ovarian cyst and I am going to get my ovaries removed very soon. I am waiting for test results for possible cancer too. I haven't been seizure free for so long though. I am happy with my medication. Once I get my ovaries removed I will recover and be able to live my life a bit. I have been sick for a while. I started getting severe kidney and bladder infections and stones in my 30's and it got worse. My doctors have been working hard to get me well. To be honest I don't think it's a hundred percent possible because I have always been like this, I just had three years of freedom starting in 2010. I got brain surgery for a deep brain stimulator implant and the healing process put me in a good place. I wish I could go back in time and try to stop the stupid seizures from coming back. Epilepsy took my life away. I was a yoga therapist and bodybuilder for most of my life and I had to give it up. I do have two neurological conditions one is unknown the other is called Tardive Dystonia. Tardive Dystonia has almost taken my life from breathing issues it effects all my muscles and it causes me to have seizures if it's painful enough. The epilepsy is the worst though. I don't have issues with my Tardive Dystonia since my surgery. I do have a heart murmur too. I guess it's common for people to develop heart murmurs. That's what I was told. I thought I was going to grow out of a lot of my health issues but it just got worse instead. At least I had three years of fun and I was able to move into my own apartment. I got in-home assistance in 2014. My mom passed away from cancer in 2015. My stepdad followed three years later. I miss them deeply. My father and stepmom have never been around much. My mom and stepdad raised me. My father has issues and my stepmom is older now so she can't do much like she used to. My stepsister takes her mom out so she can help both our parents. I have a stepbrother too and a brother. I am alone since Mom and my stepdad passed away. I don't mind it because I am autistic and I like having my space. I have a cat named Ginger Beans too. He keeps me company. 😊
