Army Veteran here. In 1989, I asked my recruiting NCO, SSG McBroom, about the Army's warrant officer candiate flight school program for helicopters, if my memory is correct, and he basically said, "Sorry, son, you wear glasses." Corrective lenses needed? No US military aviator jobs for you. My whole 7-year army career was spent fixing trucks, pulling stuck vehicles out of the mud left and right, major sleep deprivation in the field, wrestling with those damn camo nets in the field at night with a flashlight, waxing floors and freezing in an occasional foxhole.
The cockpits of those birds look very daughting with all the buttons, gauges and stuff. I think you have to be both very smart and very brave to fly as well as not be a 4-eyes.

If you wear glasses, as far as I know, Lasik eye surgery is required to become a pilot. I have been told the expense is covered though

He (a commissioned officer) does not fly much. He is generally a bureaucrat like almost all military officers. The overwhelming majority of Army pilots are Warrant Officers. Why? Because college is generally nonsense.
