- Aulus Gellius was a Roman author, educated in Athens. This is a story of Stoic philosophy inspired by his record, in Attic Nights, of a voyage from Cassiopa to Brundisium over the Ionian sea.
During the voyage, a violent storm threatened to capsize the ship and drown the passengers. Aboard the ship was a Stoic philosopher with whom Aulus Gellius discusses fear and how we can manage it, prevent it from controlling our actions, and choose reason over panic.

The most of our fears are a product of our imagination, producing unhealthy emotions and driving our behavior. In the end, all comes to the fear of death...but why do we fear what is inevitable? No reason is involved here.
