if i had this as a resource in my younger years my life would be different in many ways, i cant wait to show my youngest children this, my oldest barely grasped it but i will be sure to show her again and again, these lessons are eternal. i cant wait to read your book on epictetus , i really hope it resonates with my girls. love your work brother, youve given me such a digestable median to learn stoicism, and ive spent 100s of hours since diving deeper, your a gift to us all, seriously thank you for all you do but especially your example.
The family I nanny for has this book and I decided to read it during nap time. Normally when I read books during nap time, I skip pages just to get through it faster, but I was really into this book! So much so that I literally took a photo of it so that I remember to buy it for my future kids. I still have that photo.

I have learned so much from great men like Marcus, Epictetus, Socrates and many more we all know and love, and the past couple years of studying Stoicism has consistently changed my life for the better. Arguably more importantly, I always try to remember the countless others who live as they did but will never be known, such as some of the unknown slaves or tutors Marcus learned from in his youth. These people have always existed and will continue to live out of the spotlight, and I personally find solace in the fact that things are always happening even when they are overshadowed by a fast moving world or difficult people. We can choose to be such people in every moment and that is a powerful thing, regardless of whether anyone ever sees or knows.

I am a teacher from Pakistan.I would love to teach Stoicism to kids in an interesting way.
I read this story to my high school seniors. It was the introduction to narrative nonfiction, and a segue into having them write their personal narratives for college applications. I hope this message stuck with them. It’s the new “oh the thinks you can think. I would love to give each of them a copy of this book as a graduation present. One can wish.
I bought this for Kindle because we’re currently doing the whole #vanlife thing, and I have limited space for books. But I think this is wonderful, and when we come off the road I plan to buy copies to give as gifts to people I’ve encountered out here on the road, as a way to say thank you for sharing their experiences with me.

Hello Ryan, my 6 year old loves this book. But I have to say, I'm shocked how different the german version is. The translation is really bad. Instead of officials, it's "Beamte" which is more like a civil servant, someone who is an public employee and works at a post office and so on. It sounds totally weird. And it doesn't say "had gone to school". It's completely different and is worded like school is not important, in opposition to the education he is given now by Rusticus. These are just two examples. I don't know what happened, but it sounds like it was not translated by a native German speaker.
Oh, and it translates the New York times quote in a way, that you definitely wouldn't like. "out of the box thinker" is translated into "Querdenker", which is a popular German term for anti vaxers and corona conspiracy theorists.
