      Heh, same! I used to dream of such things as what's around today. Things were starting to get better in the later 80s as plastics were improving and by the early-90s I'd saved up for my first proper stadium truck kit build. But things like this, for so little money by modern standards, were just unheard of!

      Woohoo! Glad you enjoyed! I'm looking at an upgrade video or series for this thing. Made the 'stick' cylinder gears click yesterday (through misuse, tried to lift the track when I didn't realise a bucket tooth was stuck under it), so there's potential for it to fail completely if I'm not careful. Keep an eye out for that, it's coming.
      This is a very solid machine and when I consider it's cost next to a typical rock crawler, I think the value for money is about the same. Yeah, they're making a dollar on these things, but they're thoughtfully designed and the value is there, I think. Cheers

    Time goes by and now the state of the art are the double E e160e electric excavator.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Год назад +1

      Fair enough. I just went and looked at the EC160E and I don't necessarily agree about it being better - they both use electric actuators, right? It does look better, for sure.
      Certainly, the little Huina here never was state of the art. Cheap, yes. But people have been making hydraulic RCs for quite some years now, even some smaller ones which generally leave the actuator-powered ones in the dust.
      I'm building a better version of my large hydraulic excavator, upgrading the brushed motors to brushless and improving the oil tap servos. There are usually ways to improve these things :)

    About the weight discrepancy, it could be a translation error between the Chinese weigh scale ”Jin” vs kg. Jin and kg sounds similar in their language but aren’t the same. 2 Jin = 1kg which might explain why the stipulated weight of 11+ was double what you weighed in kilogram 5+kg.
    Anyway I love your channel and this little distraction of yours is seriously tempting me to get an excavator! Thanks for putting out the videos.

    Funny thing is, that original CAT 336d is 3.29m wide, and Huina 1580 is 18cm wide, which makes for 1:18 scale. Definately not 1:14. Same goes for WPL B36 and JJRC Q61 truck. On the box it says 1:16, while after calculating the dimensions, it sums up for 1:18.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Год назад +3

      It's a bit cheeky, but that's just a shadow of the dozer they make. It is 1/16 on the box but I calculated it to average out to 1/29 scale!! I've got a video around here somewhere for it.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  7 месяцев назад

      Hm, I don't know for sure, but I'd expect that when you turn a controller on and then the new board, it should bind and "just work". I can't promise this, but I'm pretty sure you can just replace the board. If it helps, it's what I would do! Hopefully it works out!

  • @ShortFingerRC

    Hey Craig, wondering if you lnow how to bind the 1580 transmitter to the excavator? Iv got a new transmitter for mine but am struggling connecting it. Thanks

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 месяца назад +1

      I couldn't find the specific binding process for the Huina 1580 RC excavator in the forum discussions I checked. The threads mostly focused on general discussions about the excavator, upgrades, and issues users have faced with their models, but they didn't provide a step-by-step guide on how to bind a new transmitter to the excavator.
      Since the binding process can often be quite specific and might involve a particular sequence of powering on the transmitter and the excavator, along with possibly pressing certain buttons in a specific order, it might be helpful to search through RC forums or communities dedicated to construction vehicle models.
      Sometimes, experienced users share detailed guides or can offer advice based on their experiences with similar models. In the absence of a clear guide, you might also consider reaching out on these forums directly with your question. Members of communities like RCGroups often have a wide range of experience and might be able to offer you the specific advice you need for the Huina 1580. Good luck!

    Thanks for the review. Do you have a photo of the excavator next to the scx24? I have been looking for a scale excavator to go with my scx24s but the only 1:24 scale excavators I could find do not match the performance of even the more basic 1:14 or 1:16 scale excavators. I found a 1:20 scale excavator that has good performance, but it is priced far too high for my budget. So thus I've been looking for some midrange 1:14/1:16 scale excavators instead.
    Thanks!

      That's the Scx24 JLU right next to the 1580.
      The scale is getting closer. It isn't exact but it's not too bad.
      Also, you get a driver's perspective of size difference via FPV in the SCX24 at about the 3:14 mark on this video:

      I've made a few different engine sound setups myself. At least 5 different kinds: custom arduino one that included reverse beep, smoke control and start up and stop rumble; a diesel one by a UK hobbyist; a couple of cheap Chinese no brand ones; the ess one and duo ones; the Cross RC branded one in my BC8 Mammoth; plus a couple of others I can picture but can't recall names for.
      Though an extra channel can be helpful to change pitch, volume, start/stop and horn sounds, you really only need a y-harness on the throttle channel.
      A channel for winch.
      1 or 2 for diff lock.
      Another for high/low speed.
      For cost effectiveness, the best one I can recommend that does all this is the Flysky GT5: asiate.es/aff?l=150074&i=76070
      The nice thing about the GT5 is that you can buy the FS-A3 and FS-A6 receivers for very little money to add models to the radio. I have several GT5 handsets here and their 20 model memories are mostly full. They're great.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  Год назад

      Dry toothbrush for tracks, wet wipe for body.
      Can disassemble and really clean at the parts level if you got really muddy!

      Heh, I did experiment with fpv in this machine a couple of years back, though not with head tracking!

      You'll have to work that one out yourself. It varies depending on where you buy and where you are in the world. Just do a Web search for 'huina 1580' and you'll have your answer. Cheers

    I have huina 1550 but not strong.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  11 месяцев назад

      The 1580 needed more power too, hence my upgrade video, so I can appreciate the 1550 would be lacking. Still, they're great models eh!

    You didn't measure the strength, you measured the weight of the cab part

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 месяца назад

      It was imperfect but it did measure the strength of each component. The cab sits on the chassis, over the tracks. That's on the ground. We're measuring the arm pulling up, away from the ground.

    • @norro21
      @norro21 2 месяца назад

      @@RCTNT but you hadn't pinned it down to the ground, the only thing holding it down was leveraging against its own weight

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  2 месяца назад

      @norro21 the chassis was being pressed into the ground. The arm was trying to lift. The scale measures the pull upward from the ground anchor in this case.

      A Chinese scam website? I've used a mixture of local stores and big online places for many years. AliExpress, Banggood and direct factories in China, AsiaTees in Hong Kong, Amain & small manufacturers & sellers in the USA, Hobbies Direct and Metro Hobbies locally to me here in Australia, etc etc. No scam, just the places I've been using for about a decade in most cases, and for some, much longer.
