The irony of killing demons with words alone. 💯
Wait that's so true! XD
"Sousou no Frieren" is written as 「葬送のフリーレン」, and the meaning of those letters are:
葬 = funeral
送 = send
At first, everyone thought it should mean "Fireren's funeral attendance", because it's the story of an Elf outliving all her friends. Then, at some point, is actually revealed to mean "Frieren the undertaker/slayer" (because she sends her enemies to their own funerals).
Having a deceiving double meaning in the title, and then revealing the true meaning of the title in the middle of a season is becoming a trend in anime.
Oh thanks for letting us know! That’s interesting 🤔
Something I really love about the fights in this show is that even though every fight has a winner and a loser, the loser never looks weak. Qual, Draht, Luegner, Linie, and Aura: you get the distinct sense that any one of them could have easily defeated Stark, Fern, or even Frieren if the latter weren't on their game. (I mean, Qual actually DID defeat the hero's party 80 years ago.) It's an incredible feat of writing to make the protagonists feel overwhelmingly powerful AND still make the dangers and antagonists of this world feel genuinely lethal at the same time.
in s2 the demon will never never look weak hahahhaa. i hope s2 will come :) no need to fast but need the consistency
@@jerryjerot2273haha agreed, upcoming demons r all badass and as strong as our main character
Demons will hide their magic from lesser prey, but they define themselves by whose mana is greatest and magic most skilled. When they face a mage, they HAVE to flex that mana and establish dominance. Flamme, Frieren, and now Fern refuse to play by those rules, and they treat demons like lesser enemies. That's why these demons are so shook to find out what's happening. It turns their whole view of the world on its head.
Frieren, the slayer! Delivering the coldest kill without even lifting a finger 😎🥶 Applause for Fern and Stark holding their own too 👏👏👏
Idk how they’re gonna top that kill 😆 also Fern and Stark are DEF gonna be heroes before the end of this 😌
@@SxSReacts I can't wait to see your reactions to some of the later episodes then :)))
The UTTER disrespect for an enemy that you not merely hate, but LOATHE is why Frieren's name translates to "Frozen." There's cold-blooded, and then there's Frieren. Even JJK had more consideration for their opponents.
When you realise that Frieren didn't just defeat Aura by not doing anything, but that she defeated her by stopping doing something instead.
Your point about slice of life vs. action is definitely hitting on something. The way I think about it is that this is a slice of life story, but that slice just happens to involve some fighting. And the cool thing about the fights is that they're not separate from the rest of the story. It's not like many action shows, where the plot gets put on hold so we can do some cool action scenes, and then go back to the plot. Regardless of whether they're slaying demons, shopping for birthday presents, or searching for flowers, the story is always told in the same way.
Love this perspective! Def feels like it sets it apart from a lot of other shounen we’ve seen 👌
One detail I love is that during the flashbacks with Flamme, their clothes and the architecture are all Greco-Roman style instead of medieval like the rest of the series, because it takes place 1000 years earlier.
It’s funny how despite how amazing Fern and Stark’s fight was (especially with the animation) in episode 9, you talked so excitedly about Frieren’s cold execution of Aura. That’s how amazing the storytelling is in Frieren… whether it’s the slice of life episodes, the sad and heartwarming episodes, action-packed fight scenes, or dramatic buildup like in Episode 10, every episode is so well done.
25:44 “I wanna know how Stark is.” I’m sorry, but Stark died from his injuries … Fern doesn’t have healing magic, so all she did was use her spell to look under his clothes… 😜
30:48 “Sou Sou no Frieren” 「曹操のフリーレン」 (pronounced like “so-so no Frieren”) is the original Japanese tittle, and normally it means “Frieren of the Funerals” as it shows her having to see the deaths of her companions in her long life. But for the demons, it means she’s seeing them off to their deaths, which is why they translated it as “Frieren the Slayer.” It’s also like saying “Frieren the Undertaker.” If you’re a demon, she’ll kill you in the ring, a jail cell, a wide field, a demon king’s castle, wherever. ^_^
Excited to see you guys reacting to the rest of the season. Frieren is such a brilliant anime/manga, there are so many details, so many hidden gems that are so clever, so poetic, so thoughtful. This first season was outstanding.
On August 20, Atsuko Tanaka, the voice actress who played the role of Flamme, passed away; she was 61 years old.😢
I wonder how many will plant flowers at her grave?
You guys reaction was perfect. 😊
9 and 10 need to be watched back to back so... good call there.
Subbed.
Thank you! No way we could’ve just ended things off at 9 😂
Awesome reaction guys, love your discussions, these episodes were perfect imo, I don't think I've seen a better use of flashbacks in a story
Thank you! And 100% on the flashbacks! They heavily contributed to the build up and never felt out of place 👏
I don't want to spoil anything for you but if you pay attention you will eventually get the question answered about how long Fern has been suppressing her Mana. Well, at least a hint...
Oh damn, some PEAK about to happen
Frieren is on my top 10 of all time.
21:28 This has to be one of the coldest lines and moments I've seen in anime in a LONG time. I had the same reaction at this part and was SCREAMING without the S 😂
The sad undertone in the anime you mentioned, is that in fact the time skips for frieren is like you seem them she goes to sleep wakes up and boom 10 years passed. Like she says its merely 10 years
If you review the second episode you will see where Frieren was teaching Fern how much mana to display to others senses by drawing a circle around her.
heiter was still early twenty when they meet frieren...but He already has a mana pool comparable to Aura.... Half of frieren....
Dang that’s crazy! Feels like the hero’s party was broken with all these OP characters lol
These two ep were special
Your theories are almost there but I will not spoiled it to you..😁.. It will keeps get better and even more better once it will progress and hope season 2 will come..
Great reaction from you guys!!❤❤
Thank you!! Hopefully they announce season 2 soon so we don’t have to wait too long after finishing this 😅
Thank you for sharing 😊
They don't have strong romantic feelings or reproductive drives. Like most elves in classic fiction. Enough to create a few children over the course of millenia, but could you imagine a world in which individual elves have children every few years for millenia?
About the title, Sousou no Frieren (葬送のフリーレン) is ambiguous. Sousou means sending someone off, funeral rites, etc. but apparently it can also mean to kill violently. To slay.
Quickly becoming my favorite reactors!
We appreciate that! 😄💙
The government doesn't want you to know this Serie, but the elves in the forest are free. You can just take them. I have an elf apprentice now, Serie.
3:42 not many of the reactors notice the statement there and referring to her nickname to say how she did it.
In no particular order:
Bebop
Trigun
SaO
Grimgar
Jobless Reincarnation
Frieren
Brotherhood
Demon Slayer
OverLord
MY hero
Do u know about name meaning every character in Germany like himmel means sky/heaven in germany, frieren start fern and many characters have a meaning to in germany
We heard about this too! It’s so cool that they incorporated that in 😄
@@SxSReacts Yeaa that's really cool. idk who wrote this manga is really cool hahaha. and who animate manga to this anime have a passion for this. just masterpiece anime. cant wait watch u guys in episode 20++
Aura was one of the seven sages of destruction so was Qual, the demon King also had a right hand man.
There are also unamed great demons around that are as much of a threat or greater than Aura.
In regards to water magic, without spoiling anything meaningful, there will be a character later on that specialized in that.
19:42
wow, I wonder what would make you say that? The fact that the first 2 episodes of the series were all about 2 of frieren's friends dying, or the fact that the entire series is about going to see if the afterlife is real to talk to them?
Are is we... huuuh?😂
Balls
Is that a hickey on his neck?? LOL
Lmao been asked this all my life. Nah it’s a burn mark
Everytime you skip the opening it makes me lose faith in humanity even more 😭😭😭
A bit exaggerated, then a bit focused, in a short cycle.
