    Our first stop is the majestic Stirling Castle, perched high on a volcanic crag. As we step through its ancient gates, we delve into centuries of Scottish history. Stirling is one of my favourite places. I love the castle, the Bannockburn Heritage Centre and the National Wallace Monument. There is also the Stirling Distillery, which is a gin distillery. The symbol at the train station was the Royal crest of Scotland.

    Three take-aways from this video are... 1. Mr. West is an amazing young man with a zest for life and an appreciation for history (Rare these days). 2. Stirling is absolutely beautiful and is now on my list to see this fall (2024) because of this video. 3. There was a LOT of work that went into producing this piece and I truly appreciate it. Bravo to your hard work Sir.

Stirling is officially a city these days (although a very small one), and you missed the views from the wee cairn at the graveyard, and right at the top of the monument (the crown). I was most surprised when I found out that we had ties so strongly to an active castle. I figured the reason my people came to America was due to persecution and love of land (re farmland) 🙂. And to a point, there was a conflict during the time my ancestors fled Scotland for Ireland and then came to " the colonies". Fascinating to find nuggets of history from your family's past. I really enjoyed seeing you and your Dad and brother seeing the sites. Thanks again for the info!

    That's the trouble with buildings from 1500, no room left for elevators! I live in Falkirk another small town just over the valley from Stirling, not sure if you went there, probably best known today for the Kelpies, yet the old northern fronteir of the Roman empire runs through the town, The Antonine wall from 150 AD or so. The leaders of the battle of Falkirk are buried in a church yard here too, men who fought with William Wallace.

    • @TheJpf79
      @TheJpf79 11 месяцев назад

      @@DavionWest It's a smaller town than Stirling, no castle but a big mansion in a park, a few hills but plenty of taxi's. The old Roman wall is 36 miles across the country, remains of forts and things along it, mostly a ditch now the Romans only lasted 20 years here and didn't finish it. 2000 years of history in Falkirk. Though the Kelpies and the Falkirk Wheel are the modern sights folk come to see, I get asked about them on twitter. Its only about 15 minutes away from Stirling, I will look for a video that shows a bit for you.
      It's defintely got the relaxed small town vibe and always things happening in the high street. It used to be the market place for Stirling ages ago. Still a street called "The Cow Wynd" where they brought the cows up.
