I used to work for the phone company years ago. My recommendation is to call the phone company and ask them to come out and cut it down from the pole/house many times they will. If they refuse ask to speak to a supervisor if they still refuse you can cut it down from your house but the line will still be hanging down from the pole which may cause a liability where you may get sued. One of the best college programs has been in Florida. We have a grandson who is graduating this year(2024), from high school. When the child was born his parents purchased a Florida Prepaid College Program for around 50,000, paid monthly for 18 years. This program locked in the college costs of 18 years ago. The money covers 4 years of any Florida state university or community college, 4 years dorm, and 4 years of fees. If the child choses not to go to college, the money is returned but no interest. The money can be used up to ten years after graduation. It can also be used at the community college vocational programs. If parents live in Florida they can lock in a two year community college degree for the price of a pizza.
Congratulations to your grandson! And kudos to his parents for their college planning! 👏👏👏 We didn't think Prepaid College Programs cover room & board and fees, only the tuition rate-lock. We will look into this further. Thanks for sharing!💚
Another part of the college expense equation is the explosion of administrative positions. Once colleges had a president or chancellor and a few vice presidents. Now there are many more vice presidents, assistant vice presidents, assistants to the vice presidents and assistant vice presidents, assistant deans, chiefs of staff, and on and on. Meanwhile, they leave a large part of instruction to underpaid part-time adjunct faculty who receive no benefits and may not be around campus when students need extra help or advice. Rather than saving money, this leads to hiring additional people to perform those functions and since this large bureaucracy begins to look like a business, executive compensation rises to business-like levels.
It is usually illegal to mess with utility poles. Besides possible death by electrocution or fall, the state and county do not want anyone touching any wire as the power line might connect a charge to the other wires. On the homeowners insurance, my initial thought would be a fire pit, before you mentioned trampoline. What about a small pool or something like that? This sounds horrible about being looked at daily for things the insurance company would not approve of. Some things are understandable, but this could be very interesting! However, power lines and phone lines look differently. But I won't be irresponsible enough to make any suggestions that could get someone hurt.
Ugh insurance companies! We were threatened with cancellation based on misleading photos taken at an angle to imply we had large branches hanging over the house. They also disliked the patches of moss on the roof of detached garage. We provided accurate photos, but trimmed the tree and scrubbed the roof anyway. Then we were notified by our mortgage Co, NOT the INS Co, that our coverage was canceled. We filed a formal complaint with state (NC) dept of insurance. Ultimately no repurcussions to insurance co. Clark is spot on regarding the entire student loan scenario! I have been telling my kids about this since they went off to college (last one 10 years ago). Unfortunately, colleges say "the economic benefits are up to the individual and they are agreeing to the value of our institution" to the point WE (responsible taxpayers) may be left footing the bill for these decisions. GREAT ADVISE. thank you!! it is unbelievable how expensive college is; i paid my way through college going partime back in the late 90s' today even jr. college is out of control; but to top it off, i read somewhere that those loans are now attached to the parents; so if the kid defaults, they go after parents to pay for it. i can't give you the link to where i found that but its true.
As someone that works for one of the “” cable monsters, I would say both of them are right, but the first step should be to ask them to remove the line because the cable line or phone line is owned still by the phone company or cable company and if they don’t remove it, then I would proceed and remove it myself. The easiest way to get them out there is to say it’s a safety hazard and then they will move quickly.
Also, investors are now involved in colleges. Thats a problem. I paid all mine off before interest started back up. Im proud of my nephew, he is choosing the no college debt route.
One of my daughters went to Vanderbilt ( she’s in her 40’s ). She received an excellent education. I think the most important skill she learned was in “ critical thinking .” She’s an independent thinker, for sure. So expensive, though.
Christa is cracking me up!! I would also call and electrician and at least confirm that the line I'm cutting is POTS. Minimum investment to make sure I don't meet my maker earlier than expected!!😂😂🤣
Costco Visa has nice reward, and Citi Double Cash gives a 2% total, 1% when you charge and 1 % when you pay the balance. If you pay off your card every month, as you say, this is a solid one. You have the option to cash back on your statement or direct to your bank, and the option of restaurant card etc.
Often the basketball or football coaches make several times the salary of the school’s president. Also many universities invite guests to speak such as past presidents or vice presidents etc….and are billed many hundreds of thousands of dollars per hour per show. The emphasis is not as much on the curriculum than it is to impress the gallery.
Christa wins this argument with clark on cutting down a wire . Call a electrician. They can identify if the wire has voltage and still in use . If its determined that it has no purpose they can cut it down
Unless it's within an existing easement for the phone/power company, then you risk the company coming after you for damaging their property and infringing upon their easement rights over the property.
Clark - I totally agree with Christy concerning cutting Power Lines! However I totally agree with you concerning College costs and the lack of control on runaway college costs and college loans. I went to a local state university and later received an MBA degree through my employer’s tuition reimbursement benefit.
re: College tuition prices? Long ago I read a report in the WSJ or such about how the Ivy League colleges set their prices. Turns out they look at what their fellow Ivy League institutions are charging and then CHARGE MORE!
@Clark Do NOT tell people to cut any lines running to their house. Firstly it is dangerous for those who "think" they know what they are doing. Phone lines used to be self powered and if they still are in your area, you could at a minimum be shocked. Also, if you look at the box on your house, there is a "company side" and a homeowner side. The wires (and other utilities) running to the box are usually owned by that company. You could open yourself up to fees from the cable or phone company for damaging their property. Just cutting those lines improperly could effect the service of those around you as well and cause the homeowner more expense. Call the company who owns the line to have them removed if that is what you want to do.
It's very easy to determine which line belongs to who on your house. Follow the line to your house and see which box it goes to. The cable company and the phone company logos will be on the box. Even the old old Ma Bell will have a bell symbol. Don't worry about the power line. The power line is very large and it is tied to the meter. The glass bowl with either a spinning disc or digital readout.
My home insurer just did that to me. Gave me 2-3 weeks to replace the roof. This was in March, due by April 18. I am a CPA and March was not the time for me to deal with that. I did but good grief it was a lot of extra stress at that time of year.
I'm with Christa here...not taking that risk on the phone line/power line mix up, not to mention that's part of an easement the phone company has to wire service in and they can certainly come after you for "damaging" their property and infringing on their easement rights. Better be taking a trip to the county courthouse to verify there are no easements on the property for phone service before you cut anything that has to do with public utilities.
I’ve heard of roofers knocking on doors tell people they can get new roofs for no cost if they file a claim of a damage roof. Get them before they get you I guess.
But this practice is one reason why insurance companies are sending the drones in the first place and why homeowner insurance premiums are sky high for us all. 💚
@@Clark Exactly! Those roofers and contractors come out like roaches after hurricanes here in FL. I had to get pretty nasty with one of them to get them to leave my property, they kept trying to convince me I needed a new roof and that insurance would pay for the whole thing. I kept telling them no, and to leave. They got one of the neighbors to bite, and they did get a new roof, didn't ask them if they had to pay anything, but our insurance rates doubled even though we didn't take part in the scams :(
Another reason for young folks to get basic financial education. If you own a pet consider pet insurance. Pets can be expensive. You need savings for them too.
The idea of pet insurance might be comforting, but the coverage isn’t always worth it. If you’re going to buy a policy though, be sure you fully understand what you’re getting. Get your vet’s opinion on any company you’re considering and be sure to carefully review any policy exclusions. Pet insurance often doesn't make sense when you consider the coverage vs exclusions. We definitely agree with you that, "Pets can be expensive. You need savings for them too." It's always a great idea to have your own pet fund. This gives you complete control of when, where and (most importantly) on what you choose to use your money. It’s like pet insurance without any exclusions. 💚
Clark, what are homeowners to do if they rent a home to someone and they obtain an "emotional support" animal that is one of the dangerous breed of dogs? What to do?
If one cannot tell the difference between a "POTS" line and a power cable typically wrapped around a supported cable then they definitely shouldn't be cutting anything.
The latest Google satellite photo of my home and surrounding area looks to be a least three years old. The latest street view is dated February 2022. I'm in a large city.
When you purchase liability insurance you are transferring the risk of you being held legally responsible for causing an injury to the insurance company. There are frequently dog bite claims involving settlements in the tens of thousands of dollars so an insurance company has every right to refuse to accept the responsibility for your choice of a dog breed. As far as trampolines are concerned they are commonly considered attractive nuisances and their owners held responsible, by courts, for injuries associated with them, again sometimes reaching tens of thousands of dollars. So when assessing potential payouts an insurance company has every right to distance themselves from that responsibility. You should examine all aspects of a situation before jumping to conclusions and placing all of your perceived blame on the insurance company. The homeowner makes decisions that may prevent them from being able to transfer their risk, that is not the insurance company’s fault.
Hey, just watch your show on the cars spying on you You asked Clark what if Tesla spied lol but curious how does Clark feel about the Tesla layoffs in the following walkouts that they had?
Iam livid about the insurances; it's very disturbing that they are droning the area to find reason to cancel. do you know much about self insured; i know it's a bond, but i have to figure out how to do this. it still exists. i know it exists for auto insurance im just not sure if bonds exist for home insurance.
If you have home owners insurance tied to your mortgage and owe less than 50,000 on that house., rest assured that insurance company will come up with some excuse to drop you so that the lender can foreclose due to lack of insurance. Big scam. No recourse.
no cable or phone co will come whack a wire down. they paid a sub to put it up. they'd have to pay to take down. not gonna happen. whack away. just make sure it's not the big fat one with a steel cable supporting it. lol
“Get that great GM feeling …” goes the old ad song c.1980. I think the whole corporate culture at GM is probably as fouled up as it was when Ross Perot was on their Board of Directors 40 years ago.
When I switched some years ago from Comcast to Fios some years ago, I kept my land line. But the policy now and then is that, when you switch (in my case, back to Verizon to save money), they CUT the copper land line and voice is all VOIP (albeit, via fiber ONT). Indeed, this is what they did with mine. Running a fiber line where the old phone line was and removing the copper to my house. So by cutting the phone line, is it the copper or the fiber or the cable? If the house has used any service or chased a lower cost, like me, that phone line might be fiber! You do not want to cut that! Ever! But this raises the interesting issue of, what will the Baby Bells do with all that old copper wire on all the main poles? Apparently, nothing. So expect to see a bunch of decayed copper lines slowly falling to the ground for the next 100 years from age and storms. BTW: years ago I switched back to Comcast after Verizon raised prices and would not bargain with me! When I HAD fully canceled, they called and begged me back, with a lower price. So dumb. Too late. At this point, I had switched back and fourth for many years and, became tired of the hassle. I have been with Comcast for internet and land line (cell service at my home sucks) for years. (TV has been OTA and streaming for many, many years, saving thousands) Just the thought of calling any provider and switching makes me physically ill. My health is more important than that no customer service nightmare. But if Comcast really jacks it up one year, I will take my meclizine and call Verizon. (5G won't work at my home.)
No, insurance companies don't replace old roofs. That's the homeowner's responsibility, and they want you to take care of it before it causes any damage that could result in a claim. 💚
I have to agree with your assistant, cutting a wire you’re not sure of is plain stupid, and potentially deadly. Sure, as you describe, the lines coming into a home are in a certain order on the pole but……..what if? You’re trusting that they were done correctly in the first place. Maybe not.
My Parents had to find another coverage due to computer scanning the roof. The company said it was dirty which it was not. We cleaned the roof and provide pictures and they dropped the coverage.
If you cannot afford a dog… don’t own a dog. Particularly if you do not have an emergency fund, ideally of 3-6 months expenses, or at least $2,000, don’t own a dog. Personal finance education in the US is abysmal.
So basically we want your insurance money, but we don’t wanna have to cover anything. So anything that we find that could be a problem which is the reason “why you would have insurance” in case something happens… Nah…we’re just going to make you get rid of it but still take your money, but we’re not gonna insure you for a plethora of things.😮 Have 6:07 I got that, right ?
i have aaa house insurance in the past 3 or 4 years it has went up $800.00 never made a claim i am looking for new house insurance from usaa i live in a small town Iuka,ms. 38852 our house insurance is now $2320 per year have my cars with them to what do you think
You may not be getting the best deal by bundling your home and auto insurance together. Shop them separately and see if you can get a better rate for them with 2 different insurers. 💚
If you contact your gas/electric utility company to advise them of any construction on your property (outside) they will send out someone to mark where the lines are buried. Our lines are all buried in our neighborhood.
Same here…I had to have a huge Live Oak tree cut down several years ago because they said it was “too close” to the house. If I lived 40 miles south, they couldn’t have made me do that as on the coast, Live Oaks are protected.
Love your work Clark. I remember your video from earlier this year when you talked about your optimistic view of America’s future. Since then your messages have been horrible - insurers spying, inflation, the government wanting to eliminate our traditional 401ks and IRA . . . Are you still optimistic or have things changed?
We have a 25 year old Nissan truck we bought brand new from the dealer. At the time when we bought it I told my husband we are going to be those people we saw driving the Datsun down the road.
So you ended up with a big safety discussion about the possible dangers of cutting the power or POTS cable and I don't think you really properly responded to the person originally posing the question - "can I cut my POTS line?" Yes, I know you (Clark) said that people do it all the time. Assuming one knows what cable is what (its a no-brainer to me what cable to cut), I have long wondered myself about whether I can I cut my POTS line down. (People speed all the time also, but in that case I know what the legal laws and laws of physics are there) But POTS (or cable-company even) line cutting, I don't know what one can legally do or not do. Can I "legally" cut the cable and leave the cable hanging "loose" (but as high as I could cut it) at the utility pole ??
Not so much pensions. Like with business, state higher ed systems switched over to 401k/403b plans and matched. (That too, like in business, has really screwed late boomers and GenX big time for retirement. Younger gens seem to be saving better, sooner. Probably because their late boomer and GenX parents WARNED them in time and told them how to invest. Well, the lucky ones…) As for health care, if it is a state college, nowadays, they are basically an HMO and often the main doctors you see are with the state medical system. So for instance, you would go to the University of XYZ Medical School Clinics for at least specialists. The clinical faculty that see you are state employees. Cheaper. There are, of course, exceptions and some still have pensions or, many on pension and some are not managing healthcare all that well either. Another exception involves if the state is on the ACA or not. ACA states are doing a better job.
Clark, are you off your rocker?! Mentioning that it’s okay for anyone to determine what line is power, what line is cable and what line is telephone on their own and is crazy unsafe! I usually agree with 99 and 9/10,s of whatever you say, but your advice on this topic is WRONG. I agree with Christa, call in a professional who will determine the correct wire to cut.
Come on Clark. They are not spying on your house daily. That's ridiculous to say. They want to reduce risk and use drones. Some people don't care for their homes. Ie,. Roofs, wood piles in the back yard. That's not invasion of privacy. Helicopters can see what your talking about. I use to listen to you a decade or so ago and since I found you on RUclips. I have to tell you that you have turned into a fearful Jewish Grandma. Smoke a little,. It helps.
I hope that no one listens to Clark on his suggestion to cut your own telephone line. And I really hope nobody does this, makes a mistake and gets hurt - - could Clark be sued if that happened? This needs to be a Clark Sinks!
Sorry Clark. There is a limit to cheapness, your recommendation to cut a wire is a low point on your otherwise very good program. I am disappointed in you. Has being cheap fried your brain and common sense? Don’t be irresponsible in your recommendations, especially where lives are literally on the line.
College loans can't be discharged in bankruptcy. This is the crux of the problem, not federal loans. No limit in what can be borrowed because of this fact. You stink on this one!!
Thanks Clark. I have just tasked my mother-in-law to cut my POTS line later this week. I am supplying the ladder. Stay tuned… 🕺🏿
Ha!
I hope you didn't tell her that it was the top wire.
This is Christa - you made my day LOL!!!
@@ClarkI'm with you Chtisa! I would never want to take a chance on cutting an electrical line!

I’m sure corporations that are buying homes don’t have to worry about their insurance being cancelled. 😡
All part of the plan.
They probably self insure or have a very high deductible.

I drive a 1991 Jeep Cherokee Limited I bought new Its now 33 years old no rust and still going strong. I have only 130K miles on it.
I am with Christa. Get some professional help if wanting to remove a line.
Me, too!
This!!!
Thanks for sharing your industry expert advice! 🙌
Also, investors are now involved in colleges. Thats a problem. I paid all mine off before interest started back up. Im proud of my nephew, he is choosing the no college debt route.
We got the notice that our roof needed replaced but we had it replaced last year. We sent a copy to our insurance company.
💯😂💚
Great info as always 😊
Haha!
Your program is being sponsored by Allstate Insurance!! 😂
Have you heard of Scanflation? Do you think there needs to be more oversight in retail conduct to stop misrepresentation issues, like accuracy issues?
@@TeKnoVKNG23 A local electrician can determine that .
What about the privacy of all those people taking a whiz in their backyard?
No privacy - they gotta start using the room in the home dedicated for whizzing. 😂
Awesome info!
The first segment was shocking!
Thanks for sharing your line recognition knowledge! 💚
My home insurer just did that to me. Gave me 2-3 weeks to replace the roof. This was in March, due by April 18. I am a CPA and March was not the time for me to deal with that. I did but good grief it was a lot of extra stress at that time of year.
Something about that just doesn't seem right.
What to do?
My Toyota sienna got over 347k before the transmission starting making noises but had I fixed it I think it could have doubled it’s miles.
Please let me know when Clark cuts pole lines...I love a good fireworks show!
🤦♂🤦♂💚
If one cannot tell the difference between a "POTS" line and a power cable typically wrapped around a supported cable then they definitely shouldn't be cutting anything.
💯💯💯
The insurance companies are using Google Earth satelite images that get updated once to twice a year to view your home
Call the phone company and have them come remove it. It’s possible other peoples homes are fed from it even if it is a tail.
My thoughts too!
Clark, you are wrong she is right. I would err on the safe side and contact the power company or electrician first before cutting the line.
I would check as well before cutting a line from the pole to the house.
Satellite Imagery is also sold on the open market.
My parents had an insurance company cancel them because they had an unaccompanied ladder in their back yard. No joke.
😲 Wow!
So that's what those small airplanes overhead are doing.
(TV has been OTA and streaming for many, many years, saving thousands)
Just the thought of calling any provider and switching makes me physically ill. My health is more important than that no customer service nightmare. But if Comcast really jacks it up one year, I will take my meclizine and call Verizon. (5G won't work at my home.)
Ha! This is a great example of what's more important - your sanity or saving a buck? It's different for everyone and may change over time. 💚
Maybe I'm missing something here but, if your insurance company decides you need a new roof, aren't they on the hook to pay for it?
No, insurance companies don't replace old roofs. That's the homeowner's responsibility, and they want you to take care of it before it causes any damage that could result in a claim. 💚
@@Clark My insurance company paid for a roof replacement about 4 years ago due to hail damage.
What about the LEGACY programs.
Clark suggesting that a person not qualified to cut down an outside phone line is a “Clark stinks”.
🦨🦨💚
He sounds like an electrical engineer! 👍

Clark really giving advice to cut lines into your home?
🤦♂🤦♂💚
So Clark's advice it cut the line yourself and if you cut the wrong one, you'll know it before you hit the ground and the paramedics take you away.🤷♂
Nissan wouldnt put him in a commercial. Car companies
Want you to trade your vehicle every
Year.
Thank you Team Clark.
So basically we want your insurance money, but we don’t wanna have to cover anything.
So anything that we find that could be a problem which is the reason “why you would have insurance” in case something happens…
Nah…we’re just going to make you get rid of it but still take your money, but we’re not gonna insure you for a plethora of things.😮
Have 6:07 I got that, right ?
Ohhh man the Clark Stinks are going to talk about cutting communication lines and poles

Cut pole lines??? Sounds like Clark Stinks should have an episode of "Clark's Sparks."

i have aaa house insurance in the past 3 or 4 years it has went up $800.00 never made a claim i am looking for new house insurance from usaa i live in a small town Iuka,ms.
💯 True, for buried lines.
A phone line is very small wire. Cable line is round co-axis.
Thanks for sharing your line knowledge! 💚
My girlfriend's insurance company told her they were going to cancel her insurance because of the large tree she had behind her house..
Thanks! Reporting the facts, but still optimistic 💚
@@Clark I would be very happy if you addressed my message and gave a response on air. I watch your show every day on RUclips.
Shame on you for mentioning Wells Fargo!
Clark, calm down son. I don’t want you to have a stroke. Christa is trying to talk some sense into you. Listen.
They can spy on my home daily, but cannot send me my payment history for the last 5 or 10 years? (Farmers btw)
We have a 25 year old Nissan truck we bought brand new from the dealer. At the time when we bought it I told my husband we are going to be those people we saw driving the Datsun down the road.
Ha! Love it! 👏👏👏
Well, Clark keeps voting blue, whatcha gonna do?
Universities are spending a lot of their money on the pensions and health insurance for retirees and employees.
Well, the lucky ones…)
As for health care, if it is a state college, nowadays, they are basically an HMO and often the main doctors you see are with the state medical system.
Clark, you are insane don’t tell people to cut lines
🦨🦨💚
It helps.
That's exactly why not to play the dumb CC game at all.
I hope that no one listens to Clark on his suggestion to cut your own telephone line. And I really hope nobody does this, makes a mistake and gets hurt - - could Clark be sued if that happened? This needs to be a Clark Sinks!
Nissan lasts a long time IF properly maintained. Our Nissan SUV is going on 21 years 😅
💪💪💚
Sorry Clark. There is a limit to cheapness, your recommendation to cut a wire is a low point on your otherwise very good program. I am disappointed in you. Has being cheap fried your brain and common sense? Don’t be irresponsible in your recommendations, especially where lives are literally on the line.
