Mat Kearney was first discovered by my Momma Dee’s music for a while. She does not remember him as much as I do. Mat Kearney’s voice sounds exactly like the lead singer of Coldplay and I figured that mine would sound exactly like Justin Bieber if I was a singer, but I’m more interested in drawing, painting, and sculpting.
I am a HUGE Mat Kearney fan. I literally was in his top 0.1% of listeners on Spotify last year. Today is the first time I've ever heard this song. Did it not make it to the final album? Does anyone know what happened to it?
Lyrics: I was only seventeen Livin' out a reckless dream Ridin' those summer streets To the corner of high and thirteen Me and other VD boys Runnin' too wild too bored Lookin' for the grown man's toys Out at that corner store Well they threw the money to me and somebody's ID I was in the parking lot scared as hell Sent the sixteen dollars down a wishing well Two bottles of wine those red and blue lights Took a trip down town for the very first time Watching my whole life flash before my eyes Like I was seventeen She was from across the tracks With a private school laugh We were both falling too fast Down a river that wouldn't last It was only one night and our first time I was in the parking lot scared as hell Sending sixteen dollars down the wishing well I held her tight between those yellow lines We sat there crying 'bout a miscarried life Watching my whole life flash before my eyes Like I was seventeen Oh it was a lifetime ago And I prayed for mercy Walking on down that road I led the woman of my dreams And she said yes to me And she's sayin', "Baby I'm late, I'm never this late. I'm feeling a change, we should find out either way." And I'm grabbing my keys and I'm shutting the front door I can hardly breathe driving that familiar road And I'm parked between those yellow lines Lookin' down that aisle Don't know whether to laugh or whether to cry I was in the parking lot scared as hell Sending sixteen dollars down the wishing well Two pink lines, or maybe just one Could by my daughter or it could be my son Watching our whole lives flash before my eyes Like I was seventeen Funny how the years switch around the tears that way Like I was seventeen
I remember hearing this song for the first time in high school. Now I’m 25 still so shocked how niche this song is. It’s so moving.
Agreed
More people need to hear this song
Thank you! I remembered this song but couldn't find it anywhere because I don't use apple products anymore and it's an iTunes exclusive.

Lyrics:
I was only seventeen
Livin' out a reckless dream
Ridin' those summer streets
To the corner of high and thirteen
Me and other VD boys
Runnin' too wild too bored
Lookin' for the grown man's toys
Out at that corner store
Well they threw the money to me and somebody's ID
I was in the parking lot scared as hell
Sent the sixteen dollars down a wishing well
Two bottles of wine those red and blue lights
Took a trip down town for the very first time
Watching my whole life flash before my eyes
Like I was seventeen
She was from across the tracks
With a private school laugh
We were both falling too fast
Down a river that wouldn't last
It was only one night and our first time
I was in the parking lot scared as hell
Sending sixteen dollars down the wishing well
I held her tight between those yellow lines
We sat there crying 'bout a miscarried life
Watching my whole life flash before my eyes
Like I was seventeen
Oh it was a lifetime ago
And I prayed for mercy
Walking on down that road
I led the woman of my dreams
And she said yes to me
And she's sayin', "Baby I'm late, I'm never this late.
I'm feeling a change, we should find out either way."
And I'm grabbing my keys and I'm shutting the front door
I can hardly breathe driving that familiar road
And I'm parked between those yellow lines
Lookin' down that aisle
Don't know whether to laugh or whether to cry
I was in the parking lot scared as hell
Sending sixteen dollars down the wishing well
Two pink lines, or maybe just one
Could by my daughter or it could be my son
Watching our whole lives flash before my eyes
Like I was seventeen
Funny how the years switch around the tears that way
Like I was seventeen
