    I think DGG had amazing ideas on broad themes for these movies. Michael was the evil of man and this trilogy was about his corrupting influence. 2018 was about how trauma tears apart families. Kills was about how trauma can tear apart a community. Ends was about how trauma can spread unless we take steps to move past it. Unfortunately, the execution fell apart, especially in Ends.
    There is a running theme in this movie where characters insist that they have to be the one to end the cycle. Laurie states it in the hospital. It drives Tommy to form the mob and insist that he is the one to protect Laurie this time. It's what makes Lonnie realize he has to go into the Myers house alone and not drag the children into it. Even Karen succumbed to that feeling in the end, which lead to her death. Lindsay is the only one who did not succumb to that in the moment, which is why she was able to escape Michael, and why her life is relatively normal in Ends. I wish both Kills/Ends leaned into this a little more.

    that was quick lol.
    I feel like the novelization makes me appreciate the story a bit more- its always interesting to see how many little things change during the creative process and how that can really alter the outcome.
    I think the idea of Michael being a kind of blank slate is more compelling than the personal vendetta- it’s what allows the audience be scared at home and think they could be next or whatever haha

  • @beardedshawn
    @beardedshawn 9 месяцев назад +1

    There was definitely a common theme that ran through the whole trilogy. The effect that Michael's evil has on those around him. Halloween 2018 showed his effect on Laurie and how that in turn effected her family. Dr Sartain was also big hint to the direction they would eventually take Halloween Ends. Kills showed his effect on the town with the bold and in your face decloration from Bracket that "Now he's turning us into monsters." In Ends, they really distilled it down and studied how his evil could spread like an infection. I enjoyed all three movies and also agree that this novelization had the best writer.

    The best part of the DGG series is that Michael doesn't care about Lori at all, what a let down that they put it in the novel.
    For a trilogy to work Lori should have died in Kills and then maybe Corey Cunningham could have worked with a PTSD Alison as the sole lead.

    John Carpenters Halloween is where I first started to analyze movies and characters so I’ll attempt to condense my thoughts.
    I see Michael as a black hole that keeps getting bigger. He consumes what’s closest to him . I still like to think of him as a human being that has nothing that actually makes him truly human though. It’s scary to think what humans with no emotion, no feeling, all the things that make us us would do. There is a lot of evil in the world but what about someone who has the face of a person and walks like a person but has no true connection to what it is to be a person. In my mind Michael kills because it’s like drinking water, breathing, like sex. It’s the only thing that makes him feel, in his own way human. I hope that makes sense.

  • @entertainmentwizard2703
    @entertainmentwizard2703 9 месяцев назад +1

    The novel might try to add more details but the main problem is, the novel is written by a different writer who is taking the script and trying to come up with new material to flesh out a book and that's a good thing but the new material was not written by the original writers who wrote the script in the first place so does it really set the tone for what Halloween Ends was doing when the original writing team never came up with this new material in the first place!

    Evil dies tonight! Hahaha I love this video! I agree with you that all the lore behind the characters makes their deaths all the more tragic and Michael all the more terrifying. Like the whole firefighter scene has a gore show feel to it when you watch the movie but all the context the book adds makes you think about it a whole new way. Like it isn’t just black and white; people who come off as bad have reasons that are relatable and real and vice versa for good people that actually have malicious intentions. But I think it’s true of any film adaptation of a book that having that context helps a movie flow better story wise even if you like the way it played out in your head versus what you see. I also liked that Michael’s POV does state that he targets Laurie since I couldn’t shake that feeling when watching the new trilogy that he still wants her to die. I think it’s still vague enough to put your own theories toward it or not acknowledge it at all lol and the idea of Michael gaining is power from his mask is very silver shamrock and I like it! The masks hold all the power!
    Here’s a thought though.. if Halloween 1978 is the first and Halloween 2018 is supposed to be the sequel, doesn’t that make kills the third film and now have a great trilogy of 78, 18, and kills?!
    tbh this is my new favorite comparison video! All this new info does make me like Halloween kills more and I’m stoked to see what’s in part 3! Have a great haunted hippie Halloween Maggot mommy!
    P.S. Karen’s father is Ben tramer! Hahaha

    I'm on the fence about Myers being evil or just a force of nature that does evil. I'm inclined to take your side. Here's the problem we two huge occurrences that push him towards evil... 1 when he kills the journalist in the bathroom,,, he drops the busted out teeth on the floor to intimidate her..EVIL, occurrence two, when he kills Sandra's hubby... he continually sticks different knives into a dead body... kind of evil.. it at least points towards intent. What do you think?

    • @HauntedHippie
      @HauntedHippie  9 месяцев назад +2

      To me whenever he sets up the dead bodies and stuff I read it as him being playful or artistic hahaha still not evil 🤷🏽‍♀️ Halloween ends made things a lot more complicated though

    Love these videos seriously. Halloween is my fav Horror Franchise and to see you thoughts on the new trilogy as always is a great perspective. I personally like the trilogy, but I definitely wish that the second and third film (as well as the books of course) were more thought out and planned a little bit more. At least this trilogy wasn't as bad as Star Wars' Sequel trilogy, where basically they just threw shit at the wall and saw what stuck. Great vid.

  • @DesiSJ
    @DesiSJ 9 месяцев назад

    So I have to go back and read the first two, but man...there are a few things in this book you mentioned that I feel like would've been SUPER important to include. For instance, the fact that they said there were no adult pictures taken of Michael would've made the entire part of the confusion with Tivoli completely plausible. That was the biggest gripe of the movie for a lot of people.
    As for Allison and the 'do it' scene, I kinda always saw it as her giving up in the first two screams... then she saw her mom and it her fight came back. Convenient enough to surprise Michael.
    I still wished they had done Lonnie better. He deserved a better death scene. Perhaps he died trying to save Cameron and Allison.
    Also, yeah...the mob was completely on point. Ive been in a few spaces myself with this mentality and this absolutely does happen. Energy feeds on energy and there is no energy higher in vibration than angry energy.

    Another good book vs movie review. Yes it’s always easy in a book to give you more detail about the characters. That’s why people still like a good book. I have seen movies that I have liked and went and read the book. It’s always interesting when you read the book and later find out they are making a move from it.
    I read all the Lord of the Ring books. Years later when I heard they were making them into a movie, I was like How. 😮 But look what we got. 👍
    Just so you know I find these books made from the movies less interesting. I feel you would agree that Movie adaptations from a book can be really different good or bad. One movie that comes to mind is Timeline 2003. Loved the book, but the movie just took out a lot of the parts in the book that made it more interesting.

    This novelisation sounds very interesting. And my only real gripe with the Evil Dies Tonight chant is that it goes on too long. It felt like the movie was padding out time after a bit. They just kept bringing it back without adding much to the the overall effect. Like if you restructured it a bit it would keep the energy up instead of making me laugh. The editing might be the real culprit here . I'm kind of tired . I hope I explained it well. Chant was nessesary but the execution was wonky.
