So glad you did this one and used the Cuprinol. I took a class 2 years ago where the instructor had us use it, but she didn't have us heat, spray, heat, spray to make a nice coating. Learning that today really helped.
Thank you. I'm about to attempt soldering my 8mm bezel cup onto a 10mm ring band. Is it better to solder it on the opposite side of the original ring shank join, or over the top to help hide it (I'm soldering copper with silver solder)? Thanks!
sorry for the late reply! I would solder right on top of that joint because yes, it will hide it and if it accidentally opens when you heat it, your new solder will help keep it closed
I'm looking at soldering sets/guns? What is the minimum temperature needed in one to be able to make a bezel? All the ones I see on Amazon for decent starting prices go to maybe (if I remember right) 850 degrees- is that good enough?
The needed heat depends on the solder you are using. Most soft solders flow at 1325 so you need at least that much. Here is some info that might help beaducation.com/pages/learn-to-make-soldered-jewelry and here is the most affordable torch that we sell beaducation.com/products/micro-torch
I have herkmier diamonds of various sizes and shapes. Would a bezel set work for these? After watching your video I'm thinking not, but maybe you have an idea for me?
I'm new to this so there's probably better info regarding setting odd shaped crystals but the video link below explains a little bit about setting odd shaped stones although I have purchased crystal stone earrings that were set in somewhat of a bezel frame but without a back so light can show through (I'm guessing it was considered a bezel). If I run across a specific tutorial for setting odd crystals, I'll leave another comment. In the meantime, see if this is helpful. Cheers! 😊 ruclips.net/video/hlhjdC-svCY/видео.html
Hi again! I found a 7-page pdf document with instructions for free-form bezel setting odd shaped sea glass which could also possibly work well with your Herkimer Diamonds. I found it at Facet Jewelry when I Googled the words "bezel setting odd shaped crystal stones". Just Google the same words and scroll down through the results a little ways and you should see it. Again, it is a PDF file so clicking on it downloads the file. I downloaded it without any problems (no viruses) and it shows exactly what I was trying to describe. Good luck and God bless. 🙂

These bezels come in 3mm and 4mm and the stones are of the corresponding size. I don't have one specific source. But if you are doing an online search you can look up pre-made bezel settings or oval bezel settings with your size specs.
Like the info, however alot of rings i am looking at on google images don't look like they uses bezel cups at all. So in this case where the ring looks to be decorated casted all together how is the stone held in those. Do they just super glue it in or do they pour the cast /mold of ring directly over the stone to secure it...Anyway i like to see a video on all the major methods of securing stones of different types/sizes to your ring. This is a good video on how bezel based rings are done.
You would have to make you own bezel cup most likely with bezel wire. Check out this class. www.beaducation.com/online_classes/81-soldered-rings-and-bezels
I don't have a video for making a bezel cup, but you can lear to make a bezel for a cabochon using flat bezel wire. Link below: www.beaducation.com/online_classes/81-soldered-rings-and-bezels
Excellent Class! Thanks!
You're very welcome!

This was a great tutorial. A lot of tips and tricks.

Course it also looks like I have ALOT more tools and items to buy beyond just the solderer!

Do you have to do a bezel cup aluminum on a aluminum blank?
We don't work much with soldering aluminum so you may want to refer to a class that specifies using that material. These products are sterling silver.
I have herkmier diamonds of various sizes and shapes. Would a bezel set work for these? After watching your video I'm thinking not, but maybe you have an idea for me?
Unfortunately I don't have a suggestion for that. We do simple soldering techniques but maybe check Lapidary Journal or something like that.

Hi Lisa, I have some moonstone hifh dome cabochons 8x10mm. I am at a loss as to purchasing bezels. Any help is appreciated.

Not sure how other makers are creating their pieces or if they are being manufactured that way.
What if we were to do a ring with a irregularly shaped stone ?
You would have to make you own bezel cup most likely with bezel wire. Check out this class.

What torch are you using?
www.beaducation.com/p/2171-jewelry-making-tools-max-flame-jeweler-s-butane-torch
this has nothing to do with video but it's about soldering copper do you have to sand what your going to solder then flux or just flux and then solder
Nope, you do not need to sand first. You just need to make sure that the metal is clean, then flux then solder.
Is it all aluminum
It's sterling silver
Where can I order the cystals

Lol. The flat spot is fine. Human fingers are not really round anyway.
ha, good point :)
Also, I learned the hard way, that a hole beneath a citrine appeared to be a dark flaw in the stone.
Yep , I learned the hard way too....with a rose quartz!
