    Seriously! I cannot believe you don’t have more followers! I feel like your content is so easy to understand and so easy to do. Your voice is calming and soothing. I have sat here and watched many of your videos this evening just coming across you for the first time. I am definitely going to share your information with other people who have puppies that are just unruly! All of us of been looking for help and I think you are the one to provide it! I am trying to raise a puppy to be a service dog and she is a living nightmare right now because she has no respect for me. She listens to my son very well but refuses to listen to me. I implored a little bit of your training exercises this evening, and she actually started listening to me! I was so excited I almost cried. Thank you so much 🥰 I thought I was going to have to give her up but now I see, I just need some different techniques to try to get through to her and your methods work! For the first time since getting her, I actually have hope

      I agree. He keeps things so simple and he informative. My dog is so stubborn. I wish I could get him to understand. The potty training is the worst right now but because of these videos I keep working with him.

    Petting your dog can also be a reward for your dog. I found everything in your video helpful. I don't think physically negative reinforcement will be necessary for my dog I think if I just was more particular and consistent with saying good boy and any reward especially food he would be there eventually. I need to get good at with holding. I also find it tricky for everyone to be on the same page of how to treat a the family dog if I was willing to put in the effort.Right now I'm still in the look at me phase with my dog. Baby steps for me I guess it would be so awesome to have an obedient dog I could take him anywhere! I'd really like to put in the effort people see that I'm to the point of full dedication to follow my lead on how to train the family dog.

    Hey Eric, i love the clearness and simplicity of your videos. I feel like I can transport your principles to other things I'm trying to practice! Still, did you ever practice entering vehicles that your dog is not comfortable around and inside? For my dog and me, its basically everything that means mobility in everyday life. I started practicing sensitizing around train stations and bus stations and it works exceptionally well. But how would you manage to make your dog comfortable in bike trailers? It would mean so much freedom for her and for me to just take small ways in the city to greener places some kilometers away. I did training with her favourite treat and managed her to get completely inside, but as soon as she realizes that I'm about to close the door zippers, she gets all scared and is panicking out of fear of being closed up. After watching some more of your videos, I would start rewarding her for getting inside, then repeatedly for just staying inside by giving her more treats inside, then by rewarding her to stay when I am moving away and around the trailer, then by moving my hand to the zipper and eventually using the zipper, and so on.. Does that sound reasonable? Do you have some more tips? Greetings from Germany :)

      People said to make dogs comfortable in the trailer before, so putting it in the appartment and feeding her inside, but I feel that she is too smart for that and realizes that outside behind the bike its completely different..

    Love your videos and am also surprised there aren't more views. I have been working on the place command with my dog for a few weeks now and he STILL won't go to his "place" unless I walk him there and use the hand signals to get him to lay down. He will stay there for 15+ seconds and we are working on the length, but what can I do to get him there at the command rather than excitedly staring at me for treats?

    Love your training. Found you on TikTok. This is a must for my PittiePug rascal. Is it possible to designate different places in the house? For example one place by the front door and one by the back door?

    • @ericandcaprithepup
      @ericandcaprithepup  3 года назад +1

      not exactly - it will be confusing. Place is used as an automatic default location, so your best bet would be to teach it to mean (go to the bed) and then you can move the bed around

    How do you navigate frustration? My 4month GSD when we are practicing “drop it” or “wait” he does it for like 2 sec then I have to enforce it again then he gets grumpy and barks or nips me. Especially when I’m using food or his toy or when it’s something he shouldn’t be mouthing on

    Can you teach a dog "place" for multiple houses?

  • @savannahfoster3551
    @savannahfoster3551 Год назад

    Does the place need to be in the same room? For example, I have a kennel in my bedroom. Can I teach him to run to his kennel when someone knocks or is that too difficult for the dog?

    The repetition somehow makes my dog get slower and less interested, even before we begin, she's not food motivated in these situations and is hard to reach mentally.
    She is a husky, but it shouldn't be impossible, right? She's learnt a lot of other stuff with and without treats, i feel like she is just bored of the task, she doesn't get excited, she doesn't show this kind of frustration. When she's in her place and we've done this a few times, she even refuses the release command 😅

    Eric, I have a rottie and a GSD. 1 yr, and 1 yr and 4 months. How do I train separately. The rottie gets very anxious if I crate him while I train her.

      My two pence on this as I had similar with my own GSD when I would do board and training. Put your dog in the crate assuming he is crate trained. Your other dog will be out but then have treats or use their food for both. Start walking your other dog close to crate at a very short distance and then go back and calmly reward the dog in crate. Keep doing this and extend the distance and go back and reward. Then go out of sight and back and reward. Do each of these steps for 15 mins and end on positive and let your dog out the crate. Hopefully you get the drift. Soon the dog in crate will think he is in the best place when another dog is outside being trained. It will take lots of reps and some time but don't rush it. As long as the dog in crate is quiet then reward and soon distance and time can be extended and dog will be desensitised. Good luck.
