    These are both awesome lenses you won't have any issues with image quality from either. If you have any questions about them let me know in the comments. Sample photos and more content with each lens on the blog. www.vaskoobscura.com/blog/canon-rf-85mm-f12-vs-rf-28-70mm-f2-which-one-is-right-for-you

    I have the 85 f1.2, 28-70 f2 and the 135 f1.8. They all have their own distinct uses. For portraits the 85mm is still king!

    Amazing comparaison. Both of these lenses are fantastic however, as a portrait photographer, I had to got with both the RF 85mm 1.2 and the RF 135mm 1.8. I also have the RF 24-70mm 2.8 for my wider shots. That said, you can’t go wrong with the 28-70 f2. It’s magical.

    Honestly, buy both!
    These lenses don't compete with each other, they complement each other.
    You will shoot 80-90% with the 28-70f2 and use the remaining % with the 85f1.2 for the big bang🙌
    Simply perfect🤩
    BTW: The only problem I currently have are chromatic aberrations with the 28-70 on 70mm/F2 and the use of a 1/4 Black Mist and Pol. filter, especially with night photography and chrome objects (rim spokes etc.).
    But I'm sure there are still solutions here 😅

    I think they made it so big to make it more optically pure by oversizing it. They have a larger sweet spot where the previous version was not very sharp and had other issues. This one has no such limitations.

      Totally agree. I kinda get the feeling that this 28-70mm was designed for a 100mp sensor. Maybe something we'll see in the future. Perhaps an R5s?

    Im doing same 24 105 f4 for events (cérémonie, church,..) and 85 f1.2 for portrait and emotional moment. I also use the 100 500 when I want some compression in outdoor shots!

      Sounds like a great setup, the 100-500mm is a good pick for compression. I haven't used it yet but it's on my list.

      @ yes absolutly! I used the 70 200 f4 before and i noticed that i was everytime at 200mm! The 100 500 is way more permissive and flexible, the extra reach is very confortable and the image quality is comparable to this beautifull 85mm 1.2 trust me its a beast.

    Thank you for the video enjoying it but just a couple corrections that I’ve seen so far. It looks at six minutes and 30 seconds approximately. You have the 85 mm information up when you’re talking about the 28 - 70 and also it doesn’t protrude when it focuses it protrudes when you zoom. 😮

    Is it worth upgrading from an 85 f1.8 or would it be better to add a 20-70?

    • @vaskoobscura_
      @vaskoobscura_  9 дней назад

      I have no clue because I don't know what you specialize in shooting. I mean it all really comes down to what you shoot. As I mentioned the 85mm is good at one thing and if that one thing is what you shoot and make money with than yes it's worth upgrading to. But if you need more versatility than the 28-70mm might be the right choice for you. What kinds of images do your clients want? Buy the lens that get's your clients the types of images they want. That's your best option.

      I agree. I rock mine without any UV and or ND filters, (I use other lenses for those). So it’s optional hidden costs there. Anything can happen and it’s good to have to protect the front element, but I’ve been okay with not having any filters. I’m more of a fan of my 85, so I agree with you brotha. Great comparison video!

  • @gaza4543
    @gaza4543 2 месяца назад +1

    I don’t really get the comparison. The lenses stand apart. Quite simply the coverage is 28-70 there is simply no 85 in the range. If you want the compression of the 85 you need the 85 or the 70-200. And then 85 does more in regard to depth of field, so again can’t really be compared.

    • @vaskoobscura_

      I don't mind having lens filters on these lenses. They are already super sharp softening them a touch isn't a huge deal. Especially if you are using higher end glass like B + W. I would definitely stay away from lower and filters. Appreciate the comment. Thanks.

    28-70 is not sharp at all; it’s actually very soft, especially wide open. It’s definitely not the “best zoom on the market.” 24-105 f/4 is actually worlds sharper, and the new 70-200 2.8 Z is the best zoom on the market. One of the sharpest lenses ever created.
