Fascinating to listen to Dr. Weld. His ability to tell stories is so enjoyable, and no doubt understates the effort, accument, and demands of his profession. Maybe the first entrepreneurial trainer, in understanding how badly the Aussies set up the Melbourne Cup, and worked with them to get his horse there to win the top prize...twice!
A true maestro of the turf. His versatility with all kinds of horses over varying distances is astounding .Won the Derby ,Oaks , Melbourne Cup twice and the Belmont Stakes in the US to mention just a few of his flat races achievements.Over jumps he won the Irish National, the Triumph Hurdle and the Irish Champion Hurdle.
Definitely kevin.a legend.stayed up to watch the melbourne cup shouting like mad at the tv.years later i went to it its a great track and brilliant occasion think i backed a popular uk horse persian punch ..
Dermot can talk amazing the difference in listening to him and an o'brien , very very smart guy deserves the accolades for sure one of the all time great racehorse trainers
Legend of the game Dermot weld and doesnt have as many frequent winners throughout the season as years back but even in a quiet year he always has a top class group performer .. Tarnawa 2 years back, Homeless songs last year..i wonder who will kick on this season
Wayne Wilson the caller for Media Puzzle's Melbourne Cup win never called the race again after he was fairly ciricized for forgtetting the rest of the field in the last 400 metres.
Only watched 15 minutes so far and it's obvious that this guy leaves nothing to chance...I base that not on what he's saying but by how far his horses were winning by in the race clips.
pity racing tv can't send the team to interview John Mad Manners :P who according to Mick Appleby who was his assistant for a time , would be mowing the lawn after midnight! :P he's dead now but that might have been a good one for melish to do on his own.....and let him stay overnight :P
Enchanting interview - loved it.
A true master of his craft. Doing things that had never even been tried and succeeding aswell. A great man 👍🏻

Wonder what he thinks of Jim Bolger’s claims of doping in Irish racing.
I expect DW thinks the same as the rest of us: If JB is right, who? Was JB shooting his mouth off? Will we ever hear any more about it?
