At half way through the video I was already worrying about it finishing... A fab interview .. These Rishi and Steve interviews set the standard .. So relaxed, incredibly well researched and informative. Contrast these with Chapmans infantile efforts

Brilliant interview, if they couldn’t beat him they persecuted him, they changed the title from numbers to pounds won because of him. He was the Unsinkable Boxer.

I remember before his heyday how he didn't conform to the old guard or accept that training methods couldn't be improved. This made him an outcast and he was treated with mistrust for many years. He would have been thrown out by the establishment if a shred of wrong doing was discovered. It wasn't and he wasn't and thankfully his abilities and advanced techniques were able to flourish. Yes he was tough and he employed tough jockeys, but he was a master of his trade. No one could ready one for the Nov meeting at Cheltenham like him.

Dunwoody testified that Martin threatened him if he ever went in the blood lab again, why was he so sensitive about the lab, well that would have been a good question. Just cause he used a blood lab doesn't mean he did anything wrong but it would be nice to know. Obviously David does not get the same results as Martin did, and Martin did not need to be big criminal to train winners, he was ruthless and merciless with his horses, if he trained Best Mate it may have won the topham as a 5yo and never even got to run in a Gold Cup. Yeah great trainer, should really remember AP McCoy on Pipes runners round Newton Abbot, with the jockey out front slicing it down the ribs with a circuit to go

I found this comment really interesting and remember Panorama doing a docu on the lab and asking questions. He got hammered in the papers. At the time he was the first to take bloods from his horses it is now done routinely in Flat and Jumps so time has proved he wasn't doing anything other than making sure they were 100%. He was also one of the 1st to race the French horses and even German instead of the Irish and British thoroughbreds. Alot didn't last but he persevered. Then McCoy came along not my favourite jockey for the reasons u mention. It then became numbers he was a hard jockey on the horse.

Dunwoody was the most complete jockey I've ever seen. He had the lot. However, like Pipe he was an obsessive (the title of his autobiography) and it was a match made in hell. Dunwoody never rode better than in the twighlight of his career in Ireland. It was poetry.
