My 06 had this same problem. The petcock marked with "PR" for Prime. I rarely use this selection and it is intended only for use after quad has sat for awhile and gas is no longer in carb bowl. This setting only works as intended if... #1..Vacuum line from petcock to carb is Tight/No Vac leaks !! Check vac line first and replace if not sure...#2 Diaphram in petcock may be bad/leaking and need a rebuild kit or replaced.. Try using only "ON" setting only.. Mine had leaking vacuum line. Lots of threads out there on this OEM Petcock/vacuum line to carb issue.. Hope this helps !!
Answer to fix this problem, is change the main jet anther size bigger because it’s not getting enough fuel. If quad is doing exactly what video guy said, starts right up, idols great, slow hit the gas and runs yet putting the gas in to far then starts to bog, it’s because it starving for fuel. I had the same issue and all I did was change the main jet to a bigger size and revs up great and quad rips!!
Accelerator pump the round gasket could have a pinhole and cause this. Make sure the round gasket has no holes and is seated perfectly. I’ve had to use rtv to hold it in the groove which works fine using as little as possible and clean as possible
I have an 04 with the same exact problem, changed the plug, all new fluids just like you did, and still having the same exact problem... in beginning to think that my petcock valve is clogged or has a blockage.
I believe it's lean due to k&n filter with stock settings. Either richen up the main and pilot jets or get a uni filter that'll pull more vacuum on the fuel line
Adjust your float and make shure your bowl is getting enough fuel and not emptying to fast and make shure your getting good airflow and use a cr6 plug burns hotter more better
(If you have cleaned your carb) It could be the air filter. You can’t run an open air filter due to air to fuel ratio. You need the air filter box and snorkel and the box needs to be closed. If you want to run open air filter then you ned bigger jets. How big? Idk do some googling and you’ll find out. Good luck!
In my case this is caused by a lean mixture, which is consequence of running a free flow exhaust (non specific for the model and without any baffle) which causes a lack of backpressure effect. Without backpressure, the quad tends to run leaner because you have more exhaust flow but less velocity, so the engine still retain some gas inside the combustion chamber on the next cycle, causing more heat. Actually if you run a specific exhaust (OEM or aftermaket) for your model with baffle in it you will see the fan will start less times on the same trails (which is a synonym to less heat generated, guess out why?)
You prolly dont give a shit but if you guys are stoned like me atm then you can stream pretty much all the latest series on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my brother for the last few days =)
ok i think i can help you out my friend . do you have experience opening your carburetor??? can you take it out of your atv and check the gaskets connecting the carb and also the gaskets from the exhaust you might have a damaged one and is causing a leak therefore maybe a loss of pressure ???? there might be some sort of gaskets problems in your engine also needing replacement. can you check the engine compression by any chance ???
My 04 ltz400 is doing the same thing and when I slow down, it shuts off. I have to hold the throttle on at a very high idle to keep it from stalling. It's really annoying and can't get it figured out.
@@ChiefTonga1 About 98% of it. Whoever worked on it before I got it, used silicone all throughout the carb. So it needed a thorough cleaning and rebuild. I also had upsized jet's put in as well which made an even bigger improvement. Sometimes it'll still stall when going back to idle from a high speed run, but if I quickly blip the throttle a couple of times, it'll stay running.
Did you ever figure this out? Mine does the same thing in neutral, but in any of the gears it doesn't. Pulls like a bastard and doesn't stumble at all. A couple people told me this was normal... Carb can't be set lean - has too much power to be set lean.
So I'm having the same problem just today. Went riding started acting weird. A lot of back fire too. So got home going to take carb apart clean it. I think my problem is I got a new hmf exhaust . Put it on but didn't put new jet in carb it recommended. So I'll let u know if she starts up. And that was the issue.

Had this problem, couldn’t go anywhere. Pulled the fuel line off and it was just trickling. Turned it to PRI whatever that means, all kinds of fuel came out. Didn’t help. Put it back to on, drained the bowl on the carb and no problems since
For any with same issue! My yamaha 350 with mikuni is doing same thing. The only thing I have not done is removing the imulsion tube that slide tube needle and main jet operate in. Part is available but resolution is poor to see if it actually has air holes in it to increase the Venturi vaccumn upon idle to WOT. No accelerator pump in this model carb.
I think that’s a common problem in blasters something to do with throttle control so the throttle doesn’t stick open ppl just bypass it but I don’t kno if it’s the same on the ltz
flip the bike on its back bumper take out spark plug wire and the water you got in it while washing it will drain out and then you can start the bike agian!
The fuel petcock is vacuum operated and will give a lean mixture if it's not working correctly. The carb can starve for fuel because it's not getting enough. It might even backfire while taking off under a hard load. It was a lean backfire from lack of fuel. I changed my fuel petcock for the Raptor 660 petcock and everything works perfectly now. My bike would die if I touched the throttle after it was dead cold and the first start of the day. I would have to restart it several times. It did this when it was new too.
Hey, i have the stock petcock as far as i know. My problem is when im going downhill mine will die. But flat or on an incline going straight up its fine and rides normally. Any ideas? It has a full tank.
Hi guys i changed my petcock i changed my change i changed my plugs and fluids ,my bike rides for 10 minutes and shuts off. Then battles to start, when i play with the choke it eventually starts but dies as i ride off. after 20 minutes it starts up and rides again for another then minutes. what could be the issue
Just to say, I had carburetor problems too. I replaced the fuel tap to one off a raptor, as it has an "off" setting. This means that the fuel is not constantly filling carb when not in use. I believe it deteriorates the o-rings in carb, so this will prolong it.. Also I was losing power when revved up in 3rd 4th 5th. Turns out got my carb rebuilt, never looked back.. some animal now lol
Jaunte Wade there’s a screw on the bottom of the carb that has a spring on it, if you tighten it little by little while the atv is on it should keep it idle and you can adjust the idle rpm after it’s on
vacuum problem. probably the carb's diaphragm. try to change it, or seal it properly with permatex motoseal (nothing else that doesn't have the fuel resistance, no rtv or silicon gasket maker). had the same prob, sealed it and now it works.
Is word on what was problem?? I have 03 kfx 400 doin the same thing😢😢 I need help. Cleaned carb twice adjusted shims. Still dies when press throttle but idles fine

Deitric Johnson ha that made me laugh. No theres no system that does that. The only system that prevents you from blowing the motor is the rev limiter. I've always been able to goose the throttle and have immediate response with no hesitation or stalling.
