    First of all, I own both a 2004 LTZ and a 2007 LTR 450. The LTR is much faster with more torque and horsepower yes!. The z400 is not far behind it in speed or power either. It is true the front end on the Ltz's were light!. Which added to the thrill of the ride. There really is no perfect balance between too light or too heavy front end. Yes the old gens were carbureted!. But replacing a carburetor and jets is much easier and cheaper than messing around with efi. I've heard people complain forever about the chain adjustment. I've never had a problem with this patent. If you know how to take care of it and do it right it'll never cause any problems. The fact that Suzuki stopped making them is not a problem either. Plenty of parts and aftermarkets available. There were not that many second generation models made and they are hard to come by. I've never seen a first gen listed for over $4,000 unless it was completely outfitted with all aftermarket racing components. The second gen owners want an arm and a leg on marketplace. Which I find ridiculous. I had a 2012 ltz.
    My evaluation, they were like a very slow and sluggish ltr. With the old style carrier, plus 40 lbs heavier.
    The problem with All sport ATVs is this,
    The vast majority of them were bought and owned by non-mechanically inclined idiots who didn't have any money to repair or replace broken components after they beat the living snot out of these machines. Then when they couldn't afford the bank payments they sold the problems to the next sucker. Same as a car or truck motorcycle or any other merchandise. The LTZ 400 was a fine machine as with all machines it had some flaws. If you didn't beat the hell out of it and maintained it and treated it like the prize it was they would look like my machines!. Old and pristine and perfect mechanical condition.

    I have an 06, that I bought for 1900 & was beat up pretty good. I’ve put abt 2000-2200 in it fixing all the problems & she rips great now. You are correct on how light the frt end is especially with the extra umph of a big bore kit. I do find myself riding my Z400 more than my 400ex. Both great quads but the Z400 spins the crank quicker due to its shorter stroke bigger bore engine.

      Way more power from a z when moded but a 400ex rides a bit smoother

    Speed is not the end all to quads with some of us. I enjoyed the heck out of my 2006 DVX 400 I bought new but sold to get into side-by-sides. But now many years later, I have the itch to get another 400 just for the fun factor. I haven't ridden the Suzuki 450, but I did ride my friends Yamaha YFZ several years ago and while it was wicked fast, came to the conclusion I just don't need it for the type of riding I do. Different strokes and all that. But I must say, in my search for a 400 I am pretty shocked at the prices of them these days considering their age.

    I’m with you on everything but the comparison to the 450s. Especially a yfz 450. There’s a reason why LTZs are becoming expensive. They’re sought after more than a yfz 450. Carb model YFZ 450s (04-06) had major issues. (07-08) saw those issues corrected but again it’s not very reliable, and as most trail riders would say, they prefer to spend time riding not wrenching. 09+ YFZs are great machines but it’s a different animal. They’re race orientated. They require higher revving so unless you’re an experienced rider you’re forced to ride at high speed on every trail. An LTZ 400 offers the ability for high speed and cruising. I’ve ridden both but there’s a reason why im on my 9th LTZ 400 (2007 limited edition) and the yfz 450 was a one and done. Giving up reliability for a little more speed. By the way you can fit a 434 big bore kit on a stock cylinder. Find a $3K LTZ, stick that in there, and now you have a reliable, fast trail machine WITH reverse.
    Great Channel, seems like you’re in NC im guessing. If you are let me know if you’re down to go for a ride.

    • @thebigmando
      @thebigmando Год назад

      @@romper4444 yes, the Z with a 434, an fcr carb and a full pipe will hold its own for the most part. Straightaways is where the gearing of the YFZ beats it but if you’re in the woods, the Z is just as capable and with the right rider, faster. All while you’re 5 years into the top end, vs the YFZ rider who has to rebuild his every year.

    I bought my 03 about a year ago for $1500 running. Put a lot of time and over $500 into it and it’s finally coming around to being able to be rode. Feels like it sits high and suspension feels a bit rolly compared to my old 400ex. Buts it’s still a great quad!

    You forgot about the frame where the shocks meet the frame cracks. Reverse gear is very weak and even with the rev limiter it will come apart. Rear axel isn't the strongest. Bars are weak. And my spine still hurts to this day from all the crashes lol. Not its fault tho. Still awesome and very reliable and most likely you wont face these issues if you don't go HAM on it. Top speed into the wind 65mph with a gear swap and a high wind it can do 100 mph.

  • @2ss_crlsn
    @2ss_crlsn 7 месяцев назад

    I think one of the reasons that “the front is light” is because you had it in like 4th gear and let off the clutch like a rocket and killed it

    • @FunGoingFast
      @FunGoingFast  7 месяцев назад

      How would decelerating make the front end feel light? I say that because every time you jump it you have to really watch it. And i had 2 different friends with atv experience both almost flip back while jumping it. It makes it more playful but its not a neutral flyer like the 2nd gen. Depends on preference but it is a characteristic

      @@FunGoingFast yeah I agree, mine is a little back heavy but I thought you meant in the video that’s why it was light in the front. I just misunderstood that’s it. Whenever I jump mine I always have to lean towards the back so I get what you’re saying now thanks!

      I frequently watch Canadian z400 prices, now they are lower in Quebec if that's where your looking but Canadian wise, it's pretty much unheard of for a z400 to be less than 2k so be VERY weary of that quad, especially if it's your first quad and you have no mechanical experience or knowledge. Your better off saving more and for 3k u can get a "decent" one but it will still require work but at least it'll be rideable in the meantime. For 1700 bucks, it's prolly beat to hell. But hey if your lookin to learn from the project and u have income continually coming in you can work on it and hopefully ride it as you go and you'll learn a sh*t ton along the way 👍🏻

    The LTZ400 has more power than a Honda 450 all day. There’s plenty of RUclips videos to prove that the Suzuki LTZ 400 is very reliable and very powerful but I do have to admit a Honda does handle a little bit better.
