Totally agree with you. As I'm getting older I've found that my brain has never worked so well and it doesn't look like it slowing down.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.

Transfert. I'm a personal trainer and I discovered, watching your videos, that our brain works exactly like our body. If you want run faster, doing push ups make you better in doing push ups, thus pushup has low transfert in running. Up Hills running, bouncing running, jumps can makes you to improve in running because are more related, they actually make you faster, they are a good transfert in running. Repetition makes you better in that specific skill, learning a list of words makes you better in memorizing things not speaking a language. Learning words in contest makes you understand situations, or things that you can reproduce later.
Thanks Christian, you are the best teacher I ever had!

All the stuffs you have convincing us are actually consistent with everything I read from language researchers and what I've been through. You promote me to keep going on teaching by stories. Thank you Christian!

Amazing, hilarious, stunning. These are three new words that I have learned in the process of passing from intermediate to advanced. I am 52 and I will never give up. Greetings from Chile.

At 40 I have realized that I learn any subject, practical or theoretical better and faster than when I younger. I think that it's because my brain links all information it accumulated along the years to construct new ideas. I can see everything more clearly now. Now everything adds up. Now I learn with no effort.

Another analogy for(to?) the language learning plateau came to my mind: Physical fitness is improving very fast when you start exercising. Unfortunately the fitter you get, the harder you have to train to get any better, (which can reduce your motivation to keep at it, when you reach an intermediate level of fitness).

Wow, that's so interesting! I watched in a video that some scientist explain that we can learn whatever we want because our brain makes new connexions... there are no limits! and that made feel so excited because I want to learn so many things. And the information that you give about the intermediate plateau makes a lot of sense and gives me the courage to keep learning, little by little without feeling stuck. Thank you!

The fact that you, as an adult, can learn a second or third language with relatively ease shows that your brain works as good as before. Aging has no impact at all. Great conclusions from those studies. Thanks for sharing them.

I'm not entirely sure the intermediate plateau actually exists. I think people want to get off at a " halfway station " so they can take a rest. To be honest I have been at a halfway point ( if it actually exists ) in spanish for years. But I didn't call it a plateau , I just had other things to do, like bringing up kids and going to work. Now I'm retired I have resumed in spanish and started italian too but I refuse to get stuck in some halfway station with no cafe to get a coffee 🙄 !

Hey, I watch your lessons often, which is good motivation. But with old age, the human brain deteriorates as evidenced by studies of the real brain post-mortem. In fact, starting from the very birth, the human brain begins to collapse, but at the same time form new connections, and when the first process begins to prevail over the second, marasmus and scolerosis occur. And the only chance to delay scolerosis is to form new connections, that is, to learn new things.
