I surfed Ilot Sancho last month when the gigantic cyclone swell was running. Right under that little island there's a left wedge type of wave. Had it with just myself and the guy who loaned me a board out. I was in Mauritius on business and I was not expecting that! We stayed in Quarte Bornes but on the weekend i was able to go to Le Morne and we ended up surfing Ilot Sancho. What an incredible unbelievably beautiful place. A tropical island with waves, a little taste of France and Indian food. What more could you reasonably ask for?
Been here some 25 years back. I also agree that the rugged southern coast is the most interesting part of the island. I was born and raised on the south east coast, a region of rivers, hills and beaches. I used to swim in the rivers and periodically cycled to Blue-Bay for a swim. It's idyllic, but the sense of loneliness and raw beauty of the south coast is unbeatable. It is no surprise that the poet Robert Edward Hart had a house on top of the Gris Gris cliffs overlooking the crashing waves and the vast sea.
Love it. Can't wait to get there. Looking forward to seeing it. Will be there in the six week holidays! What a fabulous place. These little Islands are my favourite. That's what I love to find. Move videos!
💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚Thank you. Water around that bit can be pretty rough (v strong undercurrent) but love the rock pools that form when the tide is out visiting the mini island..... Love this video Lucy....
Lovely to see less well known islands and thankyou Lucy for recommending the Apple IPhone 11 in one of your videos of last year.I purchased it after struggling with security issues with my Android device. The IPhone 11 camera is an artist, I have never seen such depth, detail and the atmosphere of light.
Hi Kerry! I do love these little gems in and around the island. Really spectacular. Great news about the iphone11. I really feel it’s still a fabulous phone (even in 2022!) Phones have just got so expensive now….I can’t keep up.
@@LucyLeheilleixthanks Lucy, to answer your question: My favourite beach is Wolmar because the distant mountains appear as though they are next to the beach. If you look at a Google satellite map of Western Australia you won't find any much needed Filau trees growing close to the shore like in Mauritius.
Le Bouchon is my fav beach, I just hope it stays relatively quiet after they build all around it. I can't wait to go back, Ive got my ticket for the end of the year!
It’s a real shame all of the development going on around the island. I try to take advantage of these little gems as much as possible as I fear one day they’ll be spoilt.
@@LucyLeheilleix since I’ve had decided to live here , I bought the Sony a7c (tropical features) but about a waterproof drone , it’s today a dream …. So at the end !!! Thanks god for Netflix 😃😃😃😃
I'm born and raised in Mauritius but I have never been in the South (Savannah) and Le Morne. It looks like so since facing Reunion island which is also circumscribed with rocky shores and even black sand. This means the latest Mauritian volcanic activities once occurred within this Southern region. So in about 100 million years this coast is gonna look like Grand Baie 😛
Off topic question, but what is Albion like (Hypothetically for someone wanting to move to the island)? Also, your videos are really such high quality, from the footage to the narration and editing, my wife and I really enjoy them.
Hi Stefan. Thanks for your appreciation of my videos. 👍🏻 Albion will be cheaper than Tamarin or black river, but for a good reason….it is not as nice, and if you have kids, further away from the schools. Of course this is my opinion as you may love it.
Thanks Lucy. For a small island there are so many interesting and beautiful places to see, if you have the time and inclination to explore a little. Off topic slightly, it's now mid June 2022, is there any sign of the anticipated review of Covid measures?
Hi Stanley. Absolutely right….so many great places if you’re willing to stop and look. We’re all patiently waiting for the end of the month for Covid updates. Not holding my breath though….
Let me know if you’ve been here and what your favourite beach is in Mauritius!

So glad you enjoyed the video Lily Rose! I agree, the currents in this area look dangerous.
So good to see a new post. Just love it. Take care and glad to see Minion is still flying
Hi Anton! Yes the minion is still flying. This thing goes so well, I’m in no rush to get the mini 3 pro. All of the best to you.
i always wait for your videos so eagerly. your content is so soothing. Mauritius was my honeymoon destination and I have so many memories with this.
Thanks very much Nitul.
super cool video I never seen this part of Mauritius Definitely be taking booties with when on this side of the island
A really great place to visit, and the drive along the coast is stunning too… Definitely take proper shoes though. 😉
Thank you
A pleasure 🙏

Yeah it’s the same in Cape Town. Most beaches (although stunningly beautiful) are not tree lined. Keep well!
Salut Lucy. Thanks for sharing. Must have been much volcanic activity in the area these millions of years ago.
Hi Leo. Yeah I guess it’s the volcanic activity. Really a lovely place to visit.
If you like Forest hikes, try Plaine Sophie Nature walk, Black River Peak and Le Pouce. You will love it.
Thanks Victor!

Hello lucy
Thanks for this video.
I am living now since end of may in rivière noire 🤘🏻
I try to go to this place today with the mini 3 🎉🎉🎉
Awesome! Enjoy! Just watch out for the rain 😉

As long as you have the correct shoes it’s fine 😃

Have you been to Le Souffleur yet, a little way further along the south coast? Spectacular when the conditions are right!
Hope people dont do pollution there
There is a bit I’m afraid
