  • My first night out in a Polish Lavvu Hot Tent , so excited to be making this one as have wanted to do this for several years. At home in the warm, looking out of the window its hard to motivate myself to go camping, especially with freezing December weather and snow forecast had some doubts if I would be comfortable and this lead to taking way to much clothing and bedding.
    Was on a bit of a learning curve with my new Winnerwell titanium tent stove, but it all went well and am now better prepared for next time.
    I gave an honest review of the stove here, bought with my own money-

    Looks like that little stove is plenty big enough for a small lavvu. The only thing it is missing is a glass window ... I love the glow in the door glass panel of my pomoly T1 mini ... but that stove weighs in at 2.4kg..
    Thanks for taking us along!

      Yes, can imaging a glass door would be fantastic, surprising how much glow comes out of the stove though even without glass, very cozy😀

    Great snowy camp Mark. Makes the camp very atmospheric methinks. Think you’re having great success with the stove. I agree that, albeit smaller than most, it is very suitable for smaller tents like the Polish Lavvu which seem to get overly warm sometimes with bigger stoves when I watch other YT videos. Cheers 😊👍

      Agree Giles, its just perfect, if I was to get too hot and cozy would never want to get out of it. Just right for staying warm and keeping the chill off during these colder tempatures we are getting

    I'm watching this to see if I would ever want to put a hot stove in a nylon tent. The latest Nortent Vern 2 comes with the option of a stove jack at one end for £20 more. The USP of such a tent is its resilience in high winds. Not sure I'd want to risk a chimney over a nylon tent in 35mph wind

    • @mark.a.cornish
      @mark.a.cornish  Месяц назад +1

      Most of the stoves come with spark arresters so rare for a live spark to come out of the top, though a few escape I am sure. No one shows hot tent camping in strong winds, I have tried it however. With everything flapping, chimney bending alarmingly and pegs pulling out of the ground, you are right to be concerned about that. It`s dangerous! They are better suited to the shelter of the woods, for that they are brilliant.

      @@mark.a.cornishyep, that makes sense. And there's plenty of wood around

    Fell on to this video because I'm looking for a solution for the stove jack. Think I'm gonna do the same, I dont want to modify the lavvu too much.

    • @mark.a.cornish
      @mark.a.cornish  Год назад

      Same, kept mine original. It gets pretty hot in that area so you do need something to keep the canvas away from the chimney. Thanks for taking a look👍

    Ya know, robins don't visit those with dark hearts or minds...you musta done good...They love a bit of seed in the hand btw, if you visit the place again.
    Ya know, i'm really tempted by that stove, 300 tho is steep, Especially as I wanna couple it with a dd xl superlight in a tipi configuration with add on stove jack panel for a half door cover. But man it looks cosy, and that luxury, and efficiency...what to do. what to do.

    • @mark.a.cornish
      @mark.a.cornish  Год назад

      Thats good to know. Yeah the stove is great, dont have a bad thing to say about it, but all titanium stoves are expensive, this one is a bit cheaper because its smaller but fit my purposes exactly. If you wait a while will be trying out some fixes for my homemade stove, now thats super cheap and I will get it to work one way or another.

    Thanks for the video. Just wondering what did you use to hold up those three branches for the tent?
    I have a stove like that and I am glad you explained how to role up that chimney pipe! 🌷

    • @mark.a.cornish
      @mark.a.cornish  Год назад

      I used a tennis ball with an inch cut off the bottom, seemed a cheap and simple way to do it but you can get 3d printed things and also a leather gismo from etsy makers if you search about. My set up using a rope for perfect pitch every time is explained in this video- ruclips.net/video/TuO15LQfyEU/видео.html Hope that helps👍

  • @badgerandthewoodsman
    @badgerandthewoodsman Год назад +1

    Worked a charm! I’d be tempted to stay there with those temperatures from the stove, a lot warmer than my house and cheaper to maintain energy, how did the heat bracket do, did it stay cool/warm and not damage the tent?

    • @mark.a.cornish
      @mark.a.cornish  Год назад

      I kept an eye on it during the night and it did get pretty hot at times so there is a good reason to use those two forked branches with notchs to keep the canvas from touching the heat protector sleeve. Of course every time you move that side of the lavvu getting in or out you have to check and re-do it if needed so bit of a pain at times. Buttoning up for night nights also disturbs it so can understand why people start upgrading their Lavvus. Front zips, stove jacks, adding skirts for more height ect loads of ideas out there to improve them but I kind of like it as standard with all its little quirks.😁👍

      @@mark.a.cornish it will be an issue with my pup tent wonder if you can buy those silver heat proof patches for canvas, plenty to think about 👍👍👍

    • @mark.a.cornish
      @mark.a.cornish  Год назад

      @@badgerandthewoodsman you can get stove jacks fairly cheaply, think I have seen them for around £15 or so, but you will have to sew them in, hand sewing would be ok I should think, if a little time consuming

      They are Polish army surplus, mine was new/old stock made in 1977, still had the manufacturing ticket on it so you will have to search around for an original one. Looks like Military Mart have some second hand ones, and also sells a canvas reproduction as good as the original here- www.militarymart.co.uk/collections/lavvu-tipi/products/polish-army-dome-tent-lavvu-teepee?variant=42209761984732 Hope that helps
