I've always felt that one thing that was missing in Killzone 2 & 3 was that the ISA soldiers aren't wearing masks. The natives have to wear masks when outside because the environment is so toxic so it obly makes sense that the invaders do as well. The one time I tried Killzone, it looked pretty... and then within an hour, I dropped it in favour of Heavy Rain. I'd already played FPS games with better framerates and M+KB controls, so I was more interested in an interactive movie than a console shooter.

Excellent video as always. Your editing is world-class and I always enjoy the topics you decide to discuss. Killzone has always intrigued me with its potential and its world. It felt so grounded and real, but I think ultimately it was let down by a few key decisions and writing choices. I knew one person who had a PSP when I was a kid, and no one had a Vita, so that part of the whole tale was just dead to me outside of wiki pages and RUclips. Making the first game a character select title created narrative hurdles for the sequels that I think they fell short on overcoming, at least for 2. It always felt to me that the ISA weren't tactically outmatched, they were just hapless rubes too dumb to actually survive. The Helghast are still an incredible enemy, but seeing them dunk on a six-foot hoop doesn't convey their power. I heartily agree, though, that the franchise has brought forth some of the most visually impressive games I've ever seen with incredible gunplay and a cover mechanic more games need to use. In a world now dominated by uninspired CoD releases and their failed attempts at envisioning a science fiction future, I do hope we see a return to Killzone at some point very soon
Love your videos a thoughtful and well presented retrospective. Always had a fondness for Killzone after playing Killzone 2 back in those days. Great trip down memory lane.
my god your videos are always so well done, Killed (heh) it again dude! I'd played a bit of killzone in my day but never really thought too hard about the actual story it was telling, now I need to replay it with the context in mind.
I played the hell out of the Killzone series throughout my teen years and always thought it was really good. Now having played them as an adult I realise just how powerful they were, it is confusing to me is why Killzone wasn't more widely adapted into other media - its gritty dark dystopic look at the future is really compelling and has seen a recent resurgence in modern media (I mean just look at 40K). I hope that this series is brought back to life in the near future, there is a lot more to be taken from the KZ series.
It wouldn't be received well by publishing execs and game journos. Killzone, while clearly portraying the Helghast as antagonists, gives clear lore explaining why they became a militaristic, totalitarian, and vengeful people. Given the blatant inspiration they take from The German Socialist Workers Party, it would be a golden opportunity to label the creators as Nazi Sympathizers.
Thanks for including references in the video. Doing so only adds to the overall quality of your videos, even though I’m sure it’s a bit more effort. I appreciate it.

Being 20 y/o now, regret not getting into the Killzone Franchise how I should have. I didn't know and didn't understand the story; both the games' and the developers behind it. It didn't really click for me at the time. Being a kid and a picky gamer, I was looking towards the other default picks like CoD and Battlefield. Watching this video, it made me realize how a developer that stuck with it's vision and dreams can grow, reflected by the games they develop and in turn, nurture. From the Depths of the Hells to the Soaring Elysium Sky, Guerilla Games has etched a good chunk of themselves into Video Gaming History. And I regret not being a part of it since the beginning. Maybe someday they'll decide to sort of Remaster the franchise, update it for the current generation. But for now, it's a piece of Video Gaming Legacy that, even though I'll sadly can't revisit, it's a game that makes you forget others existed.
studios like these are so rare these days so im so glad they didnt even question to completely knock another incredible series out for us to enjoy. now we just have to wait and see for them to allow us a remaster (and a PC port for it) to really bring it all home
I found you again, i remember seeing one of your videos and being mesmerized by your work, then it just vanished and i didn't remember the channel name. But now i found you again and i will not lose this time
Killzone aesthetically is amazing (the grit, the guns) HOWEVER the small enemy variety, the linear levels, lack of movement options, lack of squad intelligence / usefulness / lack of enemy coordination / lack of pathos / lack of color / lack of intensity / and lack of performance (running at a chunky ~20 frames a second); always meant that it was doomed to fail when competing against the heavy hitters of the genre (who tend to either prioritize modularity like Halo, creativity / variety like Half-life, or a focus on maps like most boomer shooters). And at first I thought it was bizarre the amount of praise I heard for the series but then I learned something most foul, the PS3 remake has even worse performance then the original releases. Then I played Horizon 1 and realized no it's not just the performance something about the engine or design just makes the game clunky, you don't have a lot of momentum, you can't move in ways that aren't explicitly scripted, it honestly reminds me a lot of Medal of Honor but even that franchise had the good sense to just become CoD at a certain point.
Its such a shame that only the generic copy paste movie "games" sony makes these days have A) survived until now and B) got a PC port. Killzone has more creativity in one level than every 3rd person ARPG published on the PS4.
I think that the New Wolfenstein games wouldn't have been so good without Killzone's success. I noticed multiplayer of the series was kind of brushed on in the video but I remember KZ3s MP being so much fun, with the mechs, the AVs, big(ish) Halo style battles. I legitimately forgot that Battlefield 3 had launched around this time because of KZ3 and MAG (god I miss MAG so much)
11 years later it may be time for Guerilla to revisit Killzone. The ending of Shadowfall certainly sets up for a sequel. SONY has a few titles that featured multiplayer just currently sitting on their shelf, Killzone and SOCOM.
nope, the new Sony just wants to make games that sell 20+ million copies. KZ is not one of them. That is why Sony abandoned most of their older IPs and threw them all away.
@@deedeemerry1295Sony didn’t them throw away, the studio who created them decided to do something else. Sony has also seen first hand with Sly Cooper 4/ and watching MS struggle with post bungie halo, that getting another studio to work on a series when the original developers aren’t interested isn’t a recipe for success.
You're so goddamn awesome, Timmm. Loving this video, and a huge fan! Also, if you don't already know, they make "gas blowback" airsoft guns! The magazines get filled with 'green gas', and and you can dry fire them. They've got realistic kick and bolt travel. Might be something to look into for new props!
This was awsome i loved the ending. ive never play the games and dont have a consoce bit if i did you would know that i would have botet them up now. keep pushing out moves ill be there for the next one.

Halo had a banger trilogy and a spin-off before it became a mediocre insecure mess. Killzone had 1 tech demo, 1 epic, 1 confused and 1 mess. That's the real reason Killzone died. I'm afraid Killzone is going to be forgotten due to the exclusivity. "Hidden gems" Just like I fear it will happen to something like Ghost of Tsushima. Wow that intro was made by the great Logan Roy ?! (Never played this game)
so many “halo-killers” yet none stand to this day yada yada yada
But now i found you again and i will not lose this time
I never really got into Killzone. This video let me learn a lot
Timmm thank you for all that you do on this platform, your content is some of my favorite in recent years
This is a very creatively done video
Well made, thoughtful video about a favorite subject. I subscribed for it
Subbed, production quality through the roof
I can still recall the ambient linkin park in my room and killzone 2 multiplayer tdm. nice vid effects
Loved the video we need more Killzone videos.
Anyone else think it’s stupid they just split their main city in half when they have an ENTIRE LIGHTLY POPULATED PLANET
Mom get the camera, Timmmm posted a new video 😭❤️
That is an objectively false statement and this is coming from someone who has played most.
I think that the New Wolfenstein games wouldn't have been so good without Killzone's success. I noticed multiplayer of the series was kind of brushed on in the video but I remember KZ3s MP being so much fun, with the mechs, the AVs, big(ish) Halo style battles. I legitimately forgot that Battlefield 3 had launched around this time because of KZ3 and MAG (god I miss MAG so much)
you are now one of my favorite creators. Your videos are just so well put together and I love them. Very underrated channel that needs more subs
Would love to see a next gen version of it. Very under appreciated game, first one was pretty good for its time
I want my forbidden west PC port, RAAAHHHH
11 years later it may be time for Guerilla to revisit Killzone. The ending of Shadowfall certainly sets up for a sequel. SONY has a few titles that featured multiplayer just currently sitting on their shelf, Killzone and SOCOM.
nope, the new Sony just wants to make games that sell 20+ million copies. KZ is not one of them. That is why Sony abandoned most of their older IPs and threw them all away.
Also Mag,......does anyone remember Mag?
Yeah but I didn't play it.@@waltonkromer2702
@@deedeemerry1295Sony didn’t them throw away, the studio who created them decided to do something else. Sony has also seen first hand with Sly Cooper 4/ and watching MS struggle with post bungie halo, that getting another studio to work on a series when the original developers aren’t interested isn’t a recipe for success.
Man I love your videos
Better than anything else on youtube right now
You're so goddamn awesome, Timmm.
I just want to say that this video made me a fan of the series and i finished Killzone 2 and 3 just moments ago . Thank you for sharing your enthusiastic and passionate essay with the rest of us
Halo had a banger trilogy and a spin-off before it became a mediocre insecure mess.
Killzone had 1 tech demo, 1 epic, 1 confused and 1 mess. That's the real reason Killzone died.
I'm afraid Killzone is going to be forgotten due to the exclusivity. "Hidden gems"
Just like I fear it will happen to something like Ghost of Tsushima. Like, it seems everybody has forgotten that game completely by now.
the game that killed halo was more halo
*343 Industries
I really wanted to like Halo 4 when it was new but there's a reason people went back to Reach and 3 shortly after 4's launch.
@@andreivaldez2929 yeah, I never even tried 4
Yo babe, timmm dropped another banger
I have only a thing to say... about the title... the only game that killed halo, it's halo imself
Exactly, no game came close to killing halo. The king was dethroned by itself and only by itself
The amount of time me n my buddy would load in a map where it was the 2 of us vs 100s of enemies was crazy. Great memories
Holy crap, how is this so well-made?
This video was superb.
Killzone is and will always be my Favorite game series. I will always remember the great times I had with the series. It will always stay in my heart.
Ive never played a killzone game, now i want to.
Tribes. The game that said, "Goodbye Halo." on the box.
Oh man KZ2. The first firt game i ever bouht when i bought my ps3, so many hours on the game. Once you got used to the janky controls it was one hell of a game, hours on one lobby that felt like it would never end , dont get me started on the graphics i miss this game alot.
When Sony bought Bungie I was hoping they would make a new Killzone. How amazing would that be? Full circle. Bungie, the creators of Halo, resuscitating Killzone.
