I’m honored!
its finally here and it was worth the wait
Gavin we celebrate tomorrow, kill 2 birds with 1 stone!
So kind!
Oh hecc yeah! Sly Cooper retrospective! Anyone talking about Sly in depth gets an A+ in my book!
I love this games so much. And btw that soundtrack in the third world, the swamp’s dark center track… Jesus CHRIST it gave me the chills when I was a kid and still does. Just amazing.
I love how you went in depth about the music. Obviously Sly 2 and 3 get more attention when it comes to their soundtracks and rightfully so but I always loved the first game's sound track due to just how unique some of the pieces are. Appreciate you for making that a point of emphasis!
I'm thrilled that you were engaged with the music analysis! It's my background, so I will try my best to utilize it! And you are right about Sly 2 and Sly 3.
If only the new generation of gamers new how awesome the old games were. Sly especially. The Sly trilogy is an unforgettable masterpiece
(excluding Thieves In Time)
a trilogy is 3 games, that means that thieves in time doesnt have to be excluded because it is not the third game. its the fourth game
Thieves in Time isn’t part of the trilogy, but I honestly, I don’t hate Sly 4, I think it’s less story and character oriented and more gameplay centered, a lot of people might hate it because they like the character interactions, but at this point I just want a new sly game, don’t really care if he’s written the same, also, Sanzaru aren’t Sucker Punch, if you want Sucker Punch games, play Ghost of Tsushima, if you want a game similar to sly, there’s gotta be something
TLDR; Thieves in Time isn’t bad, it’s different.
This is so good dude
Man another in depth Sly review, if this keeps up I might not have much new to contribute whenever I get to this series lol. But I am glad these game are getting attention like this, they definitely deserve it. This is one of my favorite series, Sly 2 is in my top 3 favorite games. This is a pretty good review, you bring an interesting perspective and I'm interested in what you have to say about the next 2 games. Keep it up!
Thank you so much! Glad to have you intrigued and enjoying the Sly Cooper Retrospective so far!
:)
I've never played a Sly game and this review has gotten me interested. Hopefully I can check it out one day myself. But about the review, I think you did a good job explaining your points as even without having the knowledge of the game I had a very good idea of what you were trying to say and the use of examples, especially with music, was well done.
Thank you so much! And I’m glad I have peaked your interest in playing the series!
Loved your analysis overall and especially the music part!! The swamp’s dark center is an incredible track and so insanely atmospheric. This and ratchet and clank have underrated soundtracks IMO. The tracks bring forth so much nostalgia for me as well
Thanks! Yes, it’s an incredible piece.
Excellent review! You weren't lying when you said "in depth", cus this video is juicy and full of information I never knew before. Great video!
Excellent review!
Great analysis!
The game clearly knows how Mugshot and Panda King are both better than the other 2 members of the Fiendish Five, because they make a reappearance in Sly 3, Mugshot being an antagonist, and Panda King joining the gang.
Great vid
Almost no other youtuber can make a 8 and half hour long series and get me to watch your a god
A goal with all of my videos is to entertain and hold the audience’s attention the whole way through, regardless of whether it’s a 15 minute video or a 4 hour one. This is what I love to hear!
I fucking love the sound of clue bottles breaking. It sounds like childhood
Your music theory analysis was a pleasant surprise sknce I'm making a Sly 5 fan OST
an hour, whoaaaaa
well done
This was a great take on the game. I hope you plan to do the rest of the series.
Thank you! As said in the beginning of the video, this is a Retrospective series on the Sly trilogy, so the next two reviews in the works are Sly 2 and Sly 3.
As a Sly fan great to see him getting all these channels reviewing his games really great job man hope u review the other ones !
Thank you! Yes, my Sly 2 and Sly 3 reviews are on the way soon!
@@IKGProductions I'll definitely be watching those too!
Will always be one of the best! Love the new avatar btw!
Thank you so much!
The video essay space is very congested, I just want to say that the bit you did about the music really made this video stand out against the pack and I could hear your passion for music coming in through your writing. Awesome video man
Great stuff all around! 👏👏👏
Thanks Malo!
@@IKGProductions Hey, no problem, man! You keep up the fantastic work!
What a nice reciew! perfectly made!!!
Sly 2 was my first game but I’ll never forget playing sly 1 for the first time as a kid. Life changing
For those curious about Gavin's new channel icon, it's because him and I were fighting shapeshifting alien invaders from Mars and while making our escape the fleshy blast door closed behind me and in front of him with the pursuing invaders blasting him 107 times. It wasn't until after our team activated the wave device where the aliens disintegrated and we found Gavin on the ground decaying and then regenerated into this new form we see here. No longer does he have the long flowing blond hair or Ritzy taste in fashion. He is the Third Gavin ;)
Finally got around to finishing the video. Great work, dude! Spot on.
Thanks Alec!
Cool video man.
Thanks!
Nice rebranding, makes your content look much more open which always helps growth!
Thank you! That’s the goal!
I can personally attest that the Mz Ruby boss battle desync bug was present on PS2. Possibly because there were a hundred dancing chickens in her arena.
The funny thing about Mugshot that he Goes out and Watch The Godfather and he's pulling off The Casino Movie for some reason.
Very true
I like your new sprites
IKG Productions These are my thoughts on all the sly games. Sly 1: A solid if a little basic start, Sly 2: An major improvement from a story stand point (even if I found the story over hyped) and in most aspects a gameplay stand point , Sly 3: A perfect ending to the series with the best story and theming even though it kinda stumbles in the gameplay from time to time and kinda suffers from an identity crisis in that it kinda ditches some of its stealth elements and becomes more of a jack of all trades from a gameplay stand point, Sly 4: A flawed but overall fun game with some questionable choices from a writing and story stand point along with some hit or miss dialogue and theming that is also hit or miss. But also some good gameplay, good replay value, some enjoyable interactions with the characters, dialogue that when it hits is really enjoyable, good level and boss design (for the most part), bringing back and improving on some elements of sly 2 and 3, and finally has a sense of heart and love to it. It's flawed but in my opinion also has enough good stuff to it to balance out the bad. That's basically how I feel about the Sly series as a whole.
I'd like to know what if this Sly was voiced by Kevin Monroo from Sly 4...
Good job
So I recently emulated the ps3 to play the Sly trilogy on my computer (I own the copies physically so it’s not piracy), and wow I had totally forgotten how difficult Sly1 was compared to the other 2. Like wow, Sly having a lives system was brutal since he died in one hit (not including charms)
One of the things that contributes to the somewhat strange instrumentation and composition of the soundtrack is that it's actually using a dynamic music system similiar to games like Monkey Island 2 and the first 2 Jak games. Basically, all the notes are being played in real-time, which let's the soundtrack change on the fly depending on player actions. The caveat to this during the time, was that you had to fit all your instrument samples into roughly a couple of MEGABYTES! If you have any experience with sampler instruments, you know how absolutely insane of a feat that is. This led to some really unconventional but insanely well made compositions, sort of innovation through limitations, and it's not something you see often anymore.
hey man this video is real good
It's kinda funny that to me, Sly Cooper's quality in terms of the trilogy as a whole reminds me a lot of the OG Star Wars.
First Part: A simple yet effective start to a great story with lots of room to expand.
Second Part: The magnum opus, and the darkest part of the story.
Third Part: Maybe not as good as part two, but has a very satisfying ending and closes the story in the best way possible.
you really missed out buddy you know that? the nostalgia is so real to me! lol
You need more subs I'm serious!!!!
Ms ruby is supposed to be a cajan style character, so that's why she talks the way she does
8:40 never knew 50 year olds were a younger audience
Come to think of it, you actually sound like Sly Cooper yourself.
I’ll take that as a compliment!
Sounds a little more like Yuri Lowenthal to me
I’m so late.....R.I.P. those 6 months XD
It’s great to hear from you again!
No problem buddy! :) I PROMISE I DIDNT DIE XD
Anyone else here excited about the recent sly news?
It's not that fiendish five don't care about each other in fact if you notice they don't rat out each other as they are on the file anyways but the members are confident that while Sly beat them they won't be able to beat the next member
Considering you mentioned them, I was wondering if your thoughts on the third game lined up more with J's Reviews or TGX Game Reviews. My favorite game is the third one, and I hate seeing it undersold so often.
You’ll have to find out in the eventual Sly 3 review!
IKG Productions I was just asking to see if I should get into this retrospective at the risk of becoming heartbroken again, haha!
Aw no! I don’t think you’d be heartbroken. I’m as fair as I can be when reviewing / analyzing material. I would say that I perhaps lean more towards J’s take on Sly 3 than TGX’s, but these reviews have an overwhelming majority of its content original to my own opinion!
IKG Productions after watching this video, I’ll just say I hope you give Sly 3 a fair shake. You analyzed Sly 1 a great deal, and spent a lot of time on a game with a deceptively simple story. So I’m hoping you give Sly 3’s story the same treatment. Too often I hear Sly 3 accused of having a simple story that was nowhere near the quality of Sly 2, when any proper analysis shows it as a more personal tale with a quiet intensity that so many people overlook. Sly 3 has my favorite story in the series, and it really comes down to global stakes versus personal stakes, and what your own preference is.
Also after watching this I’m worried you’ll criticize a certain character’s redemption for being unrealistic, which is another argument often levied against the game that I can’t understand.
It’s been 4 years and the 4th game was never reviewed)8
Dang, Murray being gay makes so much sense lol, especially with the later games. This was awesome and I can't agree more, the music and atmosphere is the best! I'm glad nostalgia isn't completely painting my view of the game
IKG Productions sly 1 is a good game but I personally don't think it's that deep of a game from a storytelling standpoint.
I don’t necessarily disagree. I never claimed it was deep in storytelling, just very solid.
@@IKGProductions That I agree on its a simple but solid story.
Jeez, just say murdered, kids can handle death. Kids aren't dumb, we have murdered, death scenes in kid story all the time you got to teach them about bad people and death at some point.
Actually, Murray was supposed to be bisexual, not gay.
Imo too high summary:analysis ratio. You have 2 audiences: prospective players and series veterans. Excessive summary spoils the prospective players and bores the vets. My 2 cents.
Murray was meant to be gay… 🤯❤️🧡💛💚💙💜💜💦🍆🍾🍑🔥🔥🔥💄👘👙👗👛🦛 this explains everything 😍
u done a good job of explain the game but u speaking in circles and not staying in order and on topic a lot of time. if you gonna tell the story do it in order and review about each world in order instead of going ahead of yourself ok.
