Arcangelo's success is a tribute to the late great Arrogate an incredible horse gone too soon at only 7 years old. Arrogate passed on his greatness to this beautiful colt. I wish there had been some mention of Arrogate and how special he was. Arcangelo looks so much like his sire.
The great, mighty Arrogate. Gone far too soon, but sired a KY Oaks winner and a Belmont Stakes winner in the infancy of his sire years. I think he only foaled 3 crops. We witnessed his greatness once again in the form of Arcangelo, a magnificent gray with tremendous talent and heart. It has already been 3+ years since Arrogate’s passing. A devastating blow. May we see much more of this beauty on the race track!

Should have been Named the TAPIT Stakes judging by the lineage... sheesh, I recall Deputy Minister having his bloodline thru so many Derby/TC Races Horses in 70's and beyond. Tapit is right there now. BTW - AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME footage. THANKS!
I heard the lady talking in the background, saying, You don't need a million dollar horse. That's true, you don't. Mine That Bird only cost $9500 when he was bought. He easily won the Kentucky derby in 2009.
I need to study up on my bloodlines. LOTS of these colts were Tapit bred either on the top or bottom side. Since the winner was distaff bred, he must be a good mare sire. I rarely have seen one sire listed that many times in one race. But maybe I'm just an old fuddy duddy and he's super famous. Wish I had a large heart mare to breed to Tapit.
Tapit is one of the greatest sires in history no doubt. His stud fee was once the highest in the world when he was younger ($300,000!!!!). He has sired 4 belmont stakes winners. He has sired 157 stakes winners, 30 (I guess now 31) grade 1 winners and 8 champions. Including last years topped ranked racehorse in the world Flightline (had the highest rating in timeform ever recorded in the USA and the 2nd highest ever just behind Frankel).
Ya a woman trainer has broke through the glass ceiling and win over the big boy so great we ladies of the horse world are so proud of ms Jena and her win sooooo proud
Six of the horses( in Belmont stakes)were sons or grandsons of Tapit, icluding the winner. Remember Flightline!!!...Actually Tapit is the Best stallion and broodmaresire in U.S.A and maybe the world .
Las carreras de caballos son un espectáculo hermoso y pensar que acá en Colombia es uno de los pocos paises que no cuentan con un hipódromo hace muchos años, que tristeza.
It could have been the distance that killed National Treasure. The distance is a lot longer and I don’t think he even ran in the Derby. The fact the rail wasn’t used and he shot up to the front in a longer distance didn’t help.
I picked Forte to win. His jockey needs to have him be near the lead. Like he ran in the Florida Derby , ten weeks ago. I had the winner as my 3rd choice. He was in my Pick 3, pick 4 , pick 5 and pick 6 combinations. So, I won on all 4 tickets, anyway.
He was a wreck in the saddle up area also, constantly fighting the handlers and spooking. That wore him down a lot also. Not saying poor riding didn’t help, but using up your energy before a race doesn’t help.
23:06 Was Baffert mad about Johnny V's ride? That horse was gassed and staggered across the wire. Maybe don't work the horse a fast 6f between the Preakness and Belmont?

@Steve…Anyone who knows anything about horse racing can see that the track was slow . I would like to check the track variant. In the earlier race , the Met Mile Cody’s Wish had a final time of 1:38:40 which wasn’t very good either.

@@victorcornet21 It would at the best be (depending on the severity) career ending. At the worst, fatal. Horses can’t throw up, so they can get extremely sick from drinking too much too fast and soon. All grooms, handlers and jockeys know this and are extremely careful about how they slow down, cool off and let the horses drink after a race like this. Also, it’s completely obvious that this horse is extremely well loved and cared for. The owner and trainer would give him water if she thought it was safe earlier to do so. EDIT TO ADD: Run a mile and a half, in weather like this. Or even July or August and right afterwards take an ice cold hose or shower and wash yourself down to cool off as soon as you stop running. If you’re lucky, you’ll be fine. Which is a miracle. Most likely you’ll be suffering from muscle pain and stress, severe shock (abruptness of temperature can put animals and humans in shock, that’s why it’s so critical in extreme cold or heat exposure to slowly change their temperature, too fast can kill more likely than not doing anything), and severe stress to your body. Another reason they gallop a quarter of a mile to a half after the race, to let the horse slow down slowly so he can adjust to the change of speed.
A big win for the trainer, but keep this race in perspective: More than 4 seconds!!!!!! slower than Secretariat 50 years ago! All grade stakes races were very slow, where have the fast horses gone??? Secretariat's works record will forever stand the test of time!!! Very disappointing Belmont Stakes day.
@@sall4090roughcuts The air quality is the worst in the world right now there also. There was heavy debate over whether the race was even going to be run.
It's worth noting tracks today have been deepened for the safety of the horses since the 70s. Comparing times is hard because tracks are typically slower than they were 50 years ago.
