This last idea of building a market for each town center in fact makes a lot of sense in real terms. Trading caravans would travel to sell goods in distant lands (where those goods were more scarse and thus valuable) and come back home with money but also with other goods that were scarse on their lands (after all it is a trade). Even so, I've never before thought about doing this. The only downside is the microing, but even so it's a very useful tip!

I thought I was the only one to think of this, one game with my bro against AI, I wondered, if you could use a underworld passage to transport gold, clearly not, but at least you can halve the trip. Also I done some math, on highland map 1v1 the gold rate was 108 gold from the the most far point on the map on your side of the river, being the most realistic safest route. With all techs considered, I also timed it with a villager ticking away at a gold mine and he got 150 gold in that time. So its not far off from mining gold with all techs, Egyptians get even more with empowerments and the camel tech, Poseidon would get a rough 10% boost based on the speed bonus. Maybe use roc to do trade?? I mean it would be a good idea but how intensive is that for 10 caravans? it would be a good way to get a boost, you could do a trip across the map across trees. Also as Loki, ox carts with no population and %50 cost you can fill a fort for 500 wood 500 food, late game that can be viable, double fort or tc damage? very nice. also caravans can garrison and shoot arrows out of forts, imagine that, see a giant camels head poking out of a arrow slit, NNNNaaaaaRRRRR. Considering the 1 population cost for caravans and vills, late game, you can get some good damage done doing this if you intend to use forts. 15 caravans in age 3, is a good idea, even when you have gold mines you need to be ready to defend while you lose food and wood for the time being, getting it setup before shit hits the fan and you always want 2, Poseidon you make 5, multiple routes is also a good idea incase, skipping age 4 mining upgrade is not a bad idea too. You win easy with a setup market, not at last minute, especially when most players, top players too forget.
The ox cart thing is really funny to me. I see that working but might just be too pricy. Imagine seeing armies of ox carts spawn everytime you kill a tower or Fort lol. Don't forget you need idle villager time to build them so the price might be higher.
@@AutomatonAoM Yeah it is pretty funny to watch a stream of them, they are like the war wagons on aoe3 haha. You can waypoint them to garrison the next fort when killed, they build the same speed as a villager trains, but with Loki it makes it worth doing, 1 idle vill isn't too much and its really only viable at the point in the game where you have spare food and wood to throw around and don't want to take up military pop while defending area, still didn't think about that. 500 wood is pricey, still you can usually buy it very cheap when your opponent will most likely be selling wood around the same time.

@@AutomatonAoM What they made is that the trip back to market is not the only one giving you the gold, but rather just everytime the caravan touches TC or market it generates gold using the distance equation. To not make it broken the reduced the quantity of gold earned (for a 100gold trip now you receive 50)
Your traders will be interrupted by the slightest thing if you have your unit stance settings set to defensive or stand ground. They bump into each other that's a idle, they bump into a tree, that's a idle. Currently only having your unit stance in options set to aggressive is how it works as intended. Not many people are aware of this bug.
Well, to be fair, if you only have 1 group of caravan, its very little micro. And you have no downside from forgetting to micro it, they just trade regularly. :)

question - what distance is the gold from a caravan trade going to earn you more / equal to the gold of a villager farming a gold mine? like at what distance does it start being better to have a caravan travelling vs a single villager farming gold?
It's a nice question. Maybe i should have included it. But I feel like, compared to the pop Cap, in this new aom the villager cap is too little. So the question makes little sense only because you should always aim for max villagers and max trade regardless of who is better
The idea is great, but in real game in this aggressive meta you will not have that time to control your caravans, and the 2nd big problem is that by using this method you will gain gold by in large batches but rarely, which can cause defeat in battle in critical situations when you urgently need to spam soldiers to protect an attack on the base and the caravan has not yet delivered the gold. And I can also add a 3rd reason, that the caravan, going in such groups, will become easier and more desirable prey for enemy raids.

The caravan redirect with two markets at the end of the video I thought was normal and thought it was a bug that the caravan didn't do it automatically.... lol, why should they need to travel all the way back, that's not normally hoiw trade IRL works, it's innefficient.

I hope the developers make trade carts available in classical age, I like the idea of early trade. Would also be nice if there is a minor god that gives unique tech that improves trade, the minor god can have a weak god power and myth unit but very powerful trade bonus that's my idea of balancing the minor god
The original Chinese let you build a market in the classical age so for the Chinese rework that God could let you build caravans in the classical age, or they might just do something completely different lol

Maybe I missed it when you said it but can you send donkeys through an underworld passage and set the rally point of the passage to the TC and have that whole sky passage tech you talked about happen automatically without hotkeys?
I might have overlooked something in the video, but from my noob-understanding a caravan alternates between the market they spawned from and the TC you selected. How does it work to spawn the caravans at the market close to the TC and make them trade with the market that is further away?
The caravan trades between the waypoint of the market (town center you send it after spawning) and the most distant market, not necessarily the one that spawned the caravan in the first place
When I build my caravans, I rally point to a TC, but once my caravans complete 1 trip, they go idle at the market until I right click the TC. My friend does not have this bug/issue. Anyone know what is happening? Very frustrating for me in the late game
common bug hope they fix this annoying shit fr, every time man. They always bug out and you have to fix them by re-click them to the market or the tc. And also the rally point doesnt work: they change route to my tc instead of my ally one 😭

I've been trying to get into Oranos but everyone else I've seen so far keeps placing him at the very bottom of their tier lists and not elaborating on what he's good at or why he's supposedly bad. i think the game is in a good spot. some ppl say poseidon is s tier, but some put him on the bottom. or maybe it's elo dependent too, but the difference in opinions seem healthy
Both Heroic Gods available to Oranos are insane. Theia can spam incredibly OP Contarius for very cheap ( they are bugged at the moment) and supplement her army with a ton of powerful Dryads. Hyperion gives Chaos, the best heroic God power in the game and Satyrs, probably the best heroic myth unit in the game- maybe just the best myth unit overall! Oranos' increased favor generation passive can allow him to spam those Satyrs too. He also has Oceanus in the classical age- this guy rools- Caladria are extremely useful at all points of the game, ans bite of the shark is super good early. Carnivora can also completely close off an area for your opponent in the early game. This is all to say nothing of the Sky Passages- these are very skill testing, but in the right hands can make raiding Oranos villagers nearly impossible, and can make defending multiple points a breeze. He has a lot going for him!
I tried it once. The caravan defected, built the tc, started an empire, destroyed my city and went on to win the game in my stead. I strongly advise not to do it.
No, they can't. No trade and no additional pop space, in exchange for being able to get vill production (and aging up) done anywhere on the map instead of on settlements specifically.
The market works as intended. They just didn't try to break it hard enough, i think. I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to patch it, but the same goes if they don't care about it. Adds a layer of complexity to it. The only bad thing gameplay/fun wise would be that now markets will always be protected by tcs. I don't think this makes the game better. Managing and walling/defending/denying a trade route is a big part of the game imho. Also having the caravan lose gold just because you change the market feels very unintuitive. Who notices that?
@@JoseLeybaDiaz I don't know, i can only guess. This is not too game breaking and raises the skill ceiling so it might be left as is. But some other commenter said that in aoe4 was the same, and they addressed it eventually. Maybe they'll just do that.
You are free to do so. But it's not cheating. These kind of exploits are part of the game, and talking about them makes them feel less of a cheat because everybody learns how to do it. Also, it increases the chances of game developers learning about it and providing a fix. Also, there are many exploits in this game (and the old too) that have been accepted by the community as just "the way of doing things", like the hunting HP bar exploit. Does that feel unethical to you as well? Because every pro player does it :)

I dont have aom retold, but can't you set patrols with the caravans with the markets next to the tc to eliminate the required micro?

I place a market right next to my TC, spawn 15 donkeys, and get 15 gold a second.
Unfortunately it doesn't work. Caravans would display 0 gold, and actually carry something like 0,001 gold. That would take ages lol

Set your Default unit stance to aggressive. Bug happens if unit stance is set to defensive.

9:45 "Oranos is already too strong as it is." What exactly do you mean by this? I've been trying to get into Oranos but everyone else I've seen so far keeps placing him at the very bottom of their tier lists and not elaborating on what he's good at or why he's supposedly bad. I'm just confused on the different opinions, that's all.
i think the game is in a good spot. some ppl say poseidon is s tier, but some put him on the bottom.
or maybe it's elo dependent too, but the difference in opinions seem healthy
Both Heroic Gods available to Oranos are insane. Theia can spam incredibly OP Contarius for very cheap ( they are bugged at the moment) and supplement her army with a ton of powerful Dryads. Hyperion gives Chaos, the best heroic God power in the game and Satyrs, probably the best heroic myth unit in the game- maybe just the best myth unit overall! Oranos' increased favor generation passive can allow him to spam those Satyrs too.
He also has Oceanus in the classical age- this guy rools- Caladria are extremely useful at all points of the game, ans bite of the shark is super good early. Carnivora can also completely close off an area for your opponent in the early game.
This is all to say nothing of the Sky Passages- these are very skill testing, but in the right hands can make raiding Oranos villagers nearly impossible, and can make defending multiple points a breeze.
He has a lot going for him!

I tried it once. The caravan defected, built the tc, started an empire, destroyed my city and went on to win the game in my stead. I strongly advise not to do it.

No, they can't. No trade and no additional pop space, in exchange for being able to get vill production (and aging up) done anywhere on the map instead of on settlements specifically.

The market works as intended. They just didn't try to break it hard enough, i think. I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to patch it, but the same goes if they don't care about it. Adds a layer of complexity to it.
The only bad thing gameplay/fun wise would be that now markets will always be protected by tcs. I don't think this makes the game better. Managing and walling/defending/denying a trade route is a big part of the game imho.
Also having the caravan lose gold just because you change the market feels very unintuitive. Who notices that?

@@JoseLeybaDiaz I don't know, i can only guess. This is not too game breaking and raises the skill ceiling so it might be left as is. But some other commenter said that in aoe4 was the same, and they addressed it eventually. Maybe they'll just do that.

You are free to do so. But it's not cheating. These kind of exploits are part of the game, and talking about them makes them feel less of a cheat because everybody learns how to do it. Also, it increases the chances of game developers learning about it and providing a fix.
Also, there are many exploits in this game (and the old too) that have been accepted by the community as just "the way of doing things", like the hunting HP bar exploit. Does that feel unethical to you as well? Because every pro player does it :)

Many exploits are integral part of the game and widely used by pros. One example would be the hunt hp bar exploit. :)
