I think she should have been applauded when she got to the end of her story -- the first step in a marvelous career in comedy. What a treasure she was.
I think her tentative way of talking made them think she was about to say something else, and the moment for applause just got away. I think they liked her a lot.
Just to listen to her talk made you want to smile. What a rare talent. There won't be another like her. Not today or any day soon. Today, they're stand up act is all filth and potty mouth. So sad. R.I.P. Madeline Kahn
Glad your mother wouldn't let that rain stop you, Madeline :~) Can't stop wonder at how sophisticated, highly deliberate yet utterly spontaneous, creative and worm, at the same time, is her use of words, gestures, her voice. It was more than just a talent; she was a work of art in herself.
One of the many things I admire about her is that she often went to interviews or whatever with very little or no makeup - she went as herself, and spoke what she thought. Stage makeup was for stage performances. She didn't, to my knowledge, speak much about women's rights in public, but she lived as she wanted to live, as a smart, aware, talented woman who did not take kindly to some men's expectations that she should hide her mind and be subservient to them.
Some people have this comedy "twinkle". There is something in their demeanor that makes you laugh just by earing / seeing some innuendo or facial body expressions. Madeline Khan had that. Fabulous comediant.
Madeline's is one of the few actresses or actors that I can say that when they appear on the screen I'll start to laugh. It really doesn't matter what the story is, I know she's going to crack me up.
Blazing Saddles… blonde hair. Her natural hair wasn’t jet black like in Clue. Mixture of blondes and light browns. But for her movie characters they dyed it or put wigs on her. She had lots of different looks for the parts she played. There’s also lots of photos of her online (in real life/out of character), even from HS/college yearbook. It is especially different to see her without (or without a lot of) makeup, like here. She was unique in every way, and a brilliant talent in whatever she created (as a character on stage or in film, singing in musical theater or in Opera).
I miss her! What a great comedic talent. She also had a beautiful singing voice.
great singing voice? It's twue, it's twue...
@@voodoochild1975az Seriously, she trained as in Opera! Not easy if you’ve ever done it!
What a voice!! She was irresistable! Adorable & witty as all get out.
Audition:
"It rained that day. That was enough for me. I wasn't going."

Letting her natural beauty shine with no make-up.
She's so adorable always.

She had so much talent. What a great she was.
Madeline Kahn the best... nothing but accolades for this fine example of an actor - the best.

Loved her so much. Why the best people are taken so soon, I’ll never understand.
Thank you so much for posting this. I love Madeline.

LEGEND. ICON.
Should have won an Oscar for "What's Up Doc"
and Blazing Saddles
Agreed. She was crazy funny, insanely talented.
She should at least have gotten a best supporting actress nomination
Didn't recognize her until I heard her voice.

I think you’d have to be a monster NOT to cherish this woman’s essence.
her teacher was a very smart woman.

Thanks, Madeline's MOM!

Wiggins... Shirley McClain! She's so young, I didn't recognize her... perfect timing.....as if time exists. (ya had to be there)
Burnsey!
Great story
She was, I think the late 80s she did consecutive successful Broadway parts.
Who is the actress who spoke first? I know her face but not her name.
Joan Allen
yes she was
What Madeline Kahn said about Shirley MacLaine?
@7mandoblu Why? I think Madeline looks great!
SpeciaL
It's so weird how different Madeline looks when she has blondish hair. I remember her most from clue with dark short hair.

Wow Madeline looked horrible in this clip.

Not at all
I don't agree, simple beauty and no makeup. She looked great and adorable.
