    Thanks so much for this Ellie, brilliant tips and advice. It has given me the confidence to ask for new permissions, what’s the worst they can do? Say no, that’s all. It’s worth a go even though I know it can be daunting, I’ll let you know how I get on. Thanks again, love watching your videos, you’re a breath of fresh air, always so positive and I love your passion for our brilliant hobby and the history we discover. I love learning about the things I find and what it tells me about the area I live in 😁

    You have sparkly eyes, a beautiful smile, you are well spoken and you are very pleasing to the eye. No one is going to say no! At my age, I have none of that, but after 50 years in hospitality, I can talk to people. I put a can of local craft beer in my back pocket with my metal detecting business card under the rig pull. I give them the beer whether they say yes or no. On it is says I can find any lost metal objects. And of course I thank them for talking to me. You have lots of great advice, and I love the word 'Project'.

    It's great to see a detectorist addressing the more complex issues of detecting. There is so much more work behind the scenes with this hobby than people think. Keep up the good work Ellie, your passion shines through. See you on the local digs. 👍

    Great pointers with permission. Took a while to get one myself but worth it. You build up a trust over time and same as yourself park up near farm house but not in the way of day to day business and they soon know who's vehicle is who's. Sherwd lot farming folk. A big club offered hundreds of pounds for a day dig but thankfully my farmer said no chance having all those people and cars over the land. So it's good to know the big clubs don't get all the permission. Great advice 😊

    Hi Ellie, I am surprised you have only 2.25 K subscribers. I can'y think why as I agree with Alex that you are abreath of fresh air and even when you catch nothing but a cold you make it real and interesting, so much that you feel like you are there beside you in the cold and rain. The Spanish Detectorist you will get there and before also has only 4K subscribers and like you he is entertaining and likeable andprobably many of those are thanks to the Scottish detectorist shouting him out. Anyway I just wanted to say don't change anything,

    Hi Ellie
    Thanks for this live chat. As I still haven't secured my first permissions, I have found lots of useful information/tips on how to approach the farmers/ land owners in this episode. I have been detectorists since January this year. I am a member of NCMD and Cotswold Metal Detecting Club. Somehow, I even managed to get onto their (CMDC) front page. Which was a great feeling and fun at the same time. I'm a bit shy person myself as well. Therefore, only yesterday, I went from door to door to find my first permission. I wish I had watched this live chat first. The reason behind this is that when I approach farmers I sort of saying " hi, I am detectorists would you let me to do what I love on your land please "? Only now I have realised that I sound a bit begging. Also I’m putting people in an awkward position. So from now on I'll try a different way of asking about permission. I even have a plan already. I am going to do sort of business card. In the title, I think to put " save the history with Jake" or " Search for the history with Jake" and then below my details. So every time I get the answer "no" I will kindly ask if I can leave my details with them. Just in case they change their mind. What do you think about it Ellie? Once again thanks for great tips.
    I wish you all the best 👍
    Jake

    • @miss_detectorist
      @miss_detectorist  5 месяцев назад +1

      I think I would put something like:
      Jake (your surname)
      Local Detectorist - NCMD insured
      Your Contact details
      Maybe a pic of you detecting if you have a nice one and look friendly!
      .. doesn’t need to be anything more than that, on the back you could hand write - “I’m looking to add a couple of projects and wondered if you’d be interested in finding out more about history on the land here? Happy to pop back sometime and chat! Jake”
      As discussed in the vid, I personally wouldn’t knock but just pop it through the letterbox - but that’s just me! I’m too shy.

      I hate lives normally as it’s all bitty with people saying hi when someone new joins. And it can feel like it’s all about their mates and a bit of a love in which just switches me off. Yours wasn’t like that - just a nice mix of reacting to comments but also about good content. I learnt some great information too. I’ve loads of permissions and have used a different approach that works but I love your ‘project’ approach - I’m going to adopt it! And I also never thought about how saying ‘dig’ might sound to the land owner. Obvious once you think about it but I doubt 99.9% of us have. Very good content that you’d obviously really thought about.
