I think about this series, and specifically the "It takes an unhappy, unusually motivated individual" quote more and more in recent times. Hits at my soul.
This series was made by a powerlifter, for us powerlifters. A regular dude who gave an incredible gift to us other regular dudes, who are living in a prison inside of our own minds… where the only key is the bar, and the iron upon it.
I started the year this vid came out and I'm still shredding myself in the gym as often as I can after watching vids like this. I hope you are too man.
@@IsaacMorgan98I’ll never stop lifting… only the purpose evolves, and now evolved to combat sports after winning a national title in powerlifting (@thesonofshane). I’m 50 next year and loving it.
I had to build my own garage gym because I go to places in my mind most can't and I start crying. Like a weird rage filled extra watery eye cry. And I just can go temporarily insane for a few moments as I dance with the weight. It's a beautiful amazing thing and I'm sorry for people that don't have that experience.
Crying while lifting yeah I definitely had that experience many many times. Doing push-ups until the tears burned my face. For some reason crying literally made me stronger..... I don't know how to explain it but it just works
I did the same thing. I’m moving so currently in a commercial powerlifting gym. Yesterday I hit a big PR and had to go into the bathroom and just cry a bit afterwards because the emotions were so intense.
Torn mcl and cartilage damage behind my knee cap, blood effusion and all that... injured my knee three different times playing football...3 years later that first video of the guy squatting and losing his knee gave me the worst feeling ever in my knee that was ducking crazy mad respect to these guys they really are fucking amazing
I’m 39 . I still lift 4 times a week and my workouts used to be this intense . But I’ve leaned up in the past few years , dropped weight , look better , but don’t lift quite as much . Bench dropped from nearly 500 to just a little over 400. This video kinda made me sad . Knowing those days are probably over for me
@@Abababab2100 the guy you replied to that was 39,unless he was in bad health, there's no reason to stop training heavy...You don't even have all your natural strength until about 45 or so...I thought you were right on target 🎯
This video makes me want to do steroids to reach my goals. I'm angry all the time anyways, might as well accomplish something. KK makes me think deadlifting 800+ is better than sex... I can sort of understand why. I'm at 550 and my girlfriend only pisses me off.. need to get to 600 and she's in the way.
Capt-Morgan You don’t need to throw everything away, just learn to compartmentalise you’re mind. Learn discipline, not just over what you do but how you think. When you are in the gym be savage, but then turn it off and relax and be in the moment and enjoy your life outside of the gym
I think if you need to start making excuses and blaming others for your own shortcomings, you’re not trying hard enough in your own journey and taking it out on the people around you. I hope you got that PR, but for her sake I hope your gf left you too lmao. It seems like you needed time to grow up a bit and find yourself (which is good). No, I’m not a simp, I have a pussy.
George Leeman is a fucking huge inspiration to me, I am so happy he never gave up and is now just plain winning at life. If you ever see this George you are a hero!
Any chance you could do one about womens powerlifting? I enjoy these ones you have posted though but its tough to find stuff for us women on here that isnt body building or crossfit. Where is all the powerlifting at? :)
Great video. Just disagree with one quote where a guy says it doesnt matter if your on gear, have the best equipment ect Of course it matters.. equally as much as whats inside, most if not all record holders have used the best kit, and taken gear. Powerlifting when used as a competitive sport, everything that can add lbs makes a difference.. 1lb can be the difference between going down in the books and being forgotten. He is clearly a gh and steroid user having spouting that bull.
I dont get it. Why does the guy at 1:05 even attempt this lift? It doesnt look like he handled this weight in training before so why risk an injury at a meet?
speak for yourself george leeman; i recently pulled 810 (see my channel for the vid) and can honestly say i enjoy every moment of my life; if you're new to powerlifting, the majority of lifters are very classy people with high self-esteem
Great video but where are the girls ?? these guys are impressive obviously but the girls are equally if not more impressive, some of the girls wilks numbers are higher than the boys also where's the great Lamar Grant ? :)
Nastgardaren while you’re not necessarily wrong there’s a large audience demanding more female powerlifting content. You’re a guy so you wouldn’t watch a girl to get motivated and I totally get that :)
I think about this series, and specifically the "It takes an unhappy, unusually motivated individual" quote more and more in recent times. Hits at my soul.
I rewatch these a lot.
Same. Especially when I'm feeling unhappy and unmotivated, it's a reminder of why I'm here.

I hope anyone reading this knows you WILL make your goals. You KNOW excuses are the ONLY thing in the way. You got this.
I've been lifting over 20 years but your 'Mentality' videos fire me up like I only just began. Thanks. Awesome stuff!

mate your soon in your 40s benching 405 is more than just crazy, your like one in a 10 million probably even more
why? Look at Mark Felix. But yeah, switching to health focus will never be as ideal for gains :(

To this day the best video about powerlifting and in general mentality behind what drives people to be the best version of themselves
You have no idea how happy I am to see Steve Goggins in this video. Great work sampson.
One of the greatest ever.

+Michael Hurse ?
Weight Warriors mate, it was one of the fucking funniest calls i had ever read.
i run and lift to this, jokes on you!!!!1 jk love ya pal
anyone else read this at first glance as "Powerlifting: the Mentally Ill"
LOL and that made perfect sense!!!
boristheblade00 yes
lol!!!!! exactly what i was thinking.
Those clips of Chris deadlifting and screaming "So Easy" get me fired up beyond belief

This is the most perfect video I have ever watched
These vids are awesome
I get emotional watching these videos
I know man the more I watch the more I realize I chose the right sport.
Same here
Fuck yeah lift that fucking weight!!!!!
6:04 8 plate front squat. That's the pinnacle of self-loathing
6:01 looks like Richard Sherman. I need to stop watching these videos at night, and watch them before I lift. I can't sleep now...

AJ Roberts fuckin MANHANDLING those box squats at 3:00
great video man :) keen for a number 3
Bodybuilders pump iron while Powerlifters eat iron
and yet it's the princesses who get all the money and fame. At least a powerlifter can walk past a mirror without having to flex
At least they're at the gym and not the couch
Nothing but Love for these guys. The REAL Motherfuckers 💯 🙌 Respect 🙌
Chris hickson's deadlift speed is insane and KK's 910 deadlift shattered my confidence
So fuckin good. Never thought I could get so fired up at 3 am hahaha
Not sure why, but when I watch a man trying to lift some heavy weight I'm kind of flexing to help him... :P Cool video!
now i gotta watch this and the first one everyday till the mentality part 3 comes out. fucking love this video and all of them keep it up
Part 3 is out my man
Powerlifting-the Mentality (1) is my favorite motivational video.. but it aint available to watch for a few days now.. :x
I love the ending no yelling or applauding just iron clanking in the background
i dont know which one was better The Mentality or The Mentality II. Quality Video
Brandon Lilly really knows how to inspire an individual
POWERLIFTING: THE MENTALITY....3!
3:21 is a major key 🔑
You should do the third part!
